apologies for the downtime, it was a nailbiting upgrade. my host is upgrading its software, so it was time to upgrade this forum's 5 year old code. you will find this upgrade extensive, and occasionally confusing/frustrating. and for that i apologise as well. But the upgrade was necessary, as i mentioned. it should not effect you in any other way but with advanced featuring. let me know if you have issues once you arrive. i know about as much about this new software as you, but i will try to help anyone as time and patience allows laugh.gif

this upgrade cost $200USD. if anyone would like to help defray the cost with a donation, go here. thanks for hanging in there tonight.

This certainly is a change. So far I am getting adjusted to it. Kind of feels like my old, comfortable sweater is gone but then times always change in life. Does seem to be working smoothly.

I did have one question. I notice under who is currently in the forum that for some reason the words Google.com remain and now it shows 146 guests reading everything. Have we become some special public place and will Google.com always be listed there as active. I never saw that before so am wondering.

Thanks for any information about this.

I also noticed my Buddies list is now Friends but a lot of names I had on it are gone so I guess not everything got transferred over so I am updating it. Other than that, I see nothing missing. But I would tell people to check out and make sure their Friends can write them.

the google listing is for what is called a ;googlebot;, or a spider. it will show when google or yahoo or ask.com is indexing the forum. i know there is a way to turn that off, i will need to look when i have some more time. as for the multiple readers, each time one of us move page to page it registers as a unique person...kind of annoying, rest assured there are not 146 guests reading at once...if that were true, i would have the most popular forum on the 'net wink.gif

LS: your answer about google made me laugh. Thanks for the info. Do you want questions about the new software here or where?
I have noticed 2 things.

1. When we send a PM, the bottom options used to auto check to save a copy in our Sent folder. This was very convenient and I was used to it. Now it is unchecked and half the time I forget to check it...in case the message doesn't go through I can resend it. Is there a way in the new software to ask this option be auto checked...like the other software used to do? Else no copies will be kept of messages when the writer assumes like before, a copy will be kept. I know we can specifically check it but after being used to it already being checked..so our option would be to uncheck it...which rarely is needed...I wonder if we can set it up as always checked?

2. Also, the new software has trouble with Quotes..which may confuse people. I notice when I get a PM which quotes
QUOTE
my message, sometimes the closing quote marker, i.e.,
, is not there. The software refuses to send the message saying the opening and closing do not match...which is correct...cause the quote starts with the marker but the end marker /QUOTE does not appear and this seems to confuse the software program. So far both the above only apply to PMs...that's where I have noticed them.

Hope noticing these things is helping.

Okay, I got the error just posting this so I will try and remove the quote marks or add until the software is happy else this will not be posted.

apparently, this is a new feature sincemost people did not want it always checked. go figure.

i will keep an eye out for a fix for that. for now, it is best to highlight the text in the PM and then create a new set of quotes.

Hope noticing these things is helping.

sure is, keep em coming.

Not sure if the "View New Posts" is working right, either, so I'll test it out with THIS post and let you know later if there were any problems.

From my brief stint on here today, it looks to me like most things are actually a good improvement, like italics, bold, emoticons, etc. controls. Haven't had a chance to check much out yet, though, but I see most options are expanded as per most public forum boards now are, so that's a good thing!

I've never seen the "SPOILER" option, though - can you explain that one? (LOVE the optional Post and Topic links - smart!)

Wish they had added to the emoticons, though - we could have really used a more expressive "crying" one on a grief board, huh?

Okay.....the "View New Posts" DOES seem to be working just fine! smile.gif

ok, it is blackout text. so you need to roll over it and highlight to see it. kind of strange for us here, but another feature to mess with rolleyes.gif give the i-Tab skin a try...it is quite unique.

i like the (new or better) option "My Assistant".
when i am online i get the message of a new pm within a couple minutes !
thats great,
seems like i do not have to wait for a reply 30 minutes or more
(beeing away maybe 5000 miles from the LS-family......... happy.gif )
i don`t know.
maybe Sigmund Freud would say, i have a problem with "near and distance"
well, this should be discussed on another thread.

Okay, LS. you said to report things here.

Today, I tried to add an attachment to a reply in Joanne's thread, which was a picture I have attached in the old software with no problem. It is 25K in size.

The new software was strange in that it said:
Attachment space is 1.69 MB of 300K (which does not make sense computer wise)
Then to the right side it says Max file upload 10 MB.

So I browsed to my 25K file and clicked upload and it replied:

Upload failed. The file was larger than the space.

What happened? Have you tried to attach a picture to a reply with success? Is there a problem here? I don't know what else to try except what I just did.

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Hate to think attachments can't be done anymore.

hi there,

as often happens, i cannot duplicate that issue. probably because of my admin status. i checked files for 'pet lovers' and did find a setting ticked wrongly. let me know if this hiccup has been cured. truthfully, the thread in question is so large that could also be the problem.

Hi, LS: Just want you to know that I think whatever you did cured the hiccup I found anyway.

I posted a picture to my thread in a reply without any problem. I did notice a change that might be because of what you did...something that now makes sense.

Remember I said I saw the screen say Space used 1.69MB of 300K and said that didn't make sense cause MB can't fit into K...computer wise.

Well, today that same part now says... 1.69MB of 48.83MB. Now 1 MB has no problem fitting into a space of 48 MB. Now it makes sense and...it worked..at least for me this time.

Thanks for checking and finding something.

click your mouse on the person's name, and a drop down appears. choose 'find members topics or find members posts' and then in the resulting window, there will be a dropdown again at the bottom right corner of the screen. you can choose today, week, month, year....it does seem to be imperfect tho, i will try to get some more idea...at work right now, so will look around this weekend.
