Yesterday I got an email from a teacher asking for help. Her students found 3 kittens and she could not keep them because she has a dog who hates cats. Our rescue group is completely saturated with cats and dogs people have dumped but I had to do something to help. Our vet has been very kind about boarding overflow animals for the group while we try to find them homes. We made a judgment call that it would be easier finding homes for kittens than older cats. We had Reba, a Calico/Siamese mix there already. She is 1 1/2 years old and is extremely shy. We have been trying for months to adopt her out but she does not show well, usually hiding under the blanket in the cage on adoption days.
To make room for the new kittens there we adopted and took home Reba. She has been with us for a day now and is slowly starting to come out from under the table. She is painfully shy but does like to be petted when we hold her. Here is Reba's first photo at home. It was the only one I could get of her where she wasn't burying her face in my wife's shoulder. Reba has been meeting the other cats and bunny through the baby gates and they all seem to be getting along extremely well so far with no hissing. She may turn out to be one of those cats who get along better with other cats than with humans. Reba is a work in progress so I will keep you all posted as to how she acclimates to her new home.

Ken,
I am not a cat person, in that I do like cats, I do not care to own another. I do, however admire anyone who can spend so much time being concerned with these felines, as cats seem to have become even more of a "throw away commodity" in our society. I plead with anyone who has a pet, but does not want kittens, puppies, or whatever, have your animal fixed! I took a lot of flak from friends and family for having a pure-bred Jack Russell fixed, but would have done it all over again. Same situation with the Chihuahua that I had. Indiscriminate and uncontrolled breeding leads to an overflow of unwanted animals. Kudos to you and others who work so hard rescuing these animals! Andy |

What a difference a couple of weeks make! Reba will always be a little shy but she has really come out of her shell. Right now she is lying on the couch next to my wife stretched out and relaxed. She is still working out the pecking order with the other cats here but she seems so much happier now. She plays, eats with the others, and loves petting. What a sweet girl she is!

You very well may have been HER person she was waiting for.
You always do so well with animals. Wish there were were more people like you also. It breaks my heart as a cat lover that anyone could not want one of these wonderful animals. Keep up the great work. Hugs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kim owner of 7 cats |

aw, ken - she's absolutely darling I am so happy for you and your family, and of course, for the lucky little Reba I remember, when I was here more frequently, that you always had kind and supportive, understanding words for people who needed them- you deserve the little beauty, and she you - best of luck to you! zoo |

Thanks to everyone for the kind greetings for Reba. She loves resting on the couch so I just took this shot. Compare it with the earlier photo and you can see how well she is acclimating.

I love this new cat of yours! A Calico would be my choice of a cat to join Mr. Jingles. Reba would be perfect since she is part Siamese also.....
She is so lucky to have people like you to take her in as are the kitties that have now been helped as a result. You are such special people to do what you do. I have considered doing more rescue work once we do not travel to visit my elderly Mom for up to a month at a time. I'd have no one to take over for that long. Thanks for the update..... she is beautiful and appears to be thriving. Ginger |
