When Lightning Strikes.

by Cheesy

Tears come, welcomed.
Pain is the companion now.
Held close in a greedy way.
Alone suffers the broken heart,
By choice, or fear.
Solum passes single moments,
And no sound breaks losses grip.
Angels gone in a whispers time,
Or slipping silently away,
Let darkness come, unwelcomed,
And teary eyes can't see.
But thru long nights
Where we empty vessels shake,
A light flashes bright,
And lights for us the way.
It comes to us like the shadows did,
But brightness to chases them
And removes the tarish stain.
We have found in that bright flash,
Silver white and true,
That though grief may be,
And our hearts are torn in two,
That in this place where lightning guides,
But thunder never strays,
In our pain we have the key
To heal and renew.
That though we all are broken,
We are strong in all these things,
We chose to let that light flash in,
And give us back the day.

This site has helped me soo much, and it has meant the world to me. I just wanted to post this. I was thinking about this place, and all the sadness, and hurt we all have, and though it pains me, I found a smile hiding in my tears. The smile was that we are all here. We have each other, and more people join each day. So we can all lean on, cry for, and care for each other.
I thank God for all of you,
For this place,
and that there is a place where we don't have to be alone.

Cheesy,
What a beautiful poem. You are right, I don't know what I would have done without this site. Losing my beloved pet, Zoe, is the hardest, most unbearable time in in life. However, the wonderful people on this site, pulled me through to let the sunshine in my heart and have happy thoughts of my sweet precious Zoe. She will forever be in my heart.
Thanks for sharing your poem.
Thanks to everyone for you help coping with my loss.
Big Hugs to all of you,
Deanna

Your poem is beautiful. Thank you for sharing it.

When I read your words afterwards...especially how this place keeps us from being alone...I just burst into tears...
it is so very true.

This place exists because of a very special cat named Tribble. We thank you so much, Tribble...your work here
will never be done..as long as we all continue to have these special sweethearts in our lives. It is because of you
so many who are hurting so badly...know they are not alone...and somehow that helps to bear the pain. Because of
you...healing starts. Because of you..many new homeless and unwanted babies find a home and we who live in pain
can once again feel that special unconditional love that babies like you taught us all about. We cannot thank you
enough.

Hi Cheesy,
Thanks for bringing such an inspirational message to all of us here. I share in the gratitude you express for this wonderful site. All those who came before me and all those who came after have helped me along my journey in many differrent ways.

It's great to hear from you again. There are very few people here anymore who were first here when I found LS. Though I don't come nearly as often as I used to, I remember each of the wonderful people who touched me with their love and helped me to pick up the broken pieces of my heart.

Much love with many hugs Cheesy, wub.gif

Dear Cheesy,

I finally was able to register (computer stuff) and couldn't WAIT to reply to your beautiful poem. My sweet Chloe had to be put down May 4, 2009. She was FIV-pos and got a form of lung cancer and went down fast. I rescued her 5 years ago, and it wasn't easy. She was way more than worth the effort. I don't want to talk about that now because I want to tell our story "properly". Picture and all. I need to do this more than I ever thought. Euthanizing her, when I knew she trusted me so, felt to me like a betrayal of her trust, regardless of the fact that I knew it had to be done. The pain of doing that is beyond description. As I have heard from others in this same situation. Thank God I found this website! And your poem. For a week I couldn't cry. I was in shock and inconsolable, couldn't eat. I even wished I were dead (the day I put her down). "Battery acid" filled my heart and solar plexus. I couldn't "will" it away. I needed relief and told myself, "you just have to work through it". Then I read your poem.

It was so descriptive of what I felt, I was able to sob my heart out. A "rain" of tears. Isn't it interesting how that works? I feel better today, one week after her death. The unbearable physical and emotional pain has, at least somewhat, abated. The "battery acid" is gone today. I don't know about tomorrow. Your sharing of this poem was so valuable to me, a stranger. I thank you, my friend.

I also want you to know that I sent this poem to several of my friends. It wasn't easy. I was not able to "cut and paste" your poem...so I wrote it out on paper, re-entered it online, and sent it. The responses to it have been so heartfelt and sweet. All recipients are my friends. Some pointed out, and I agree, that this poem is about the process of life itself, and grief, in general. Something our pets put right in our face. I cannot thank you enough.

Love,
Pam
