Trying To Be Taken Seriously

I've been struggling to find help since my Nadir was killed, I'm totally desperate for justice or revenge or whatever I can get. My problem is that I'm not being taken seriously. I expected that sort of treatment from the police because that's just how they are (around here anyhow), but I'm disgusted to learn that I've been blown off by the very professionals around here whose job it is to investigate crimes like the one that was commited against Nadir.

A few days ago at work, I was just coming off of my break and I heard two of the people who are supposed to be "helping" me. They were in my store as customers, so I couldn't very well spaz out on them, but I overheard some really hurtful things being said. Probably the most painful thing was that one gal said that I'm a "tattoed freak" who "sure doesn't LOOK like someone who really gives a damn about animals." I think they're not really looking into the crime because they don't like me because of my appearance.

Which makes me wonder, is this something that I can involve a regular lawyer in? Or is it too late? Does anyone know how this might work?
