We had to have my dog, Zelda, put down today. She had a very advanced cancer and was in a lot of pain. I know it was the right thing to do and that she only would have suffered worse if she had lived longer but it hurt so much to see her go. I've had Zelda since I was 10 and I'm 18. She was such a young dog. This morning we took her out to her favorite place but she just got tired so fast that we had to take her home. We gave her some yummy human food before she left but it was so hard to say goodbye. She was so sweet and she loved us so much. I still remember when I came home from school when day, my first year of public school, and suddenly I had this adorable teddy bear puppy. She was a Lab/Saint Bernard mix and just the sweetest thing. I keep thinking I see her. I tried to sleep (what with it being 1:45 here and all) and I thought I could hear her and smell her.

It's been such a hard year, we've lost 2 other pets, sweet loving cats, in the past year too. The one cat, Sammy, was outdoors so he just dissapeared. I had that cat since before I can remember, he was so great I used to dress him up in doll clothes and he would let me and not scratch or struggle or anything. The other cat, Maxi, he was such a baby, not even seven when he got cancer. We had to put him down too.

I just keep thinking about how much it's hurting to lose them, I loved them all so much.

Zelda barely lived to see my graduation and Maxi and Sammy died so early in the year.

I'm so sorry about Zelda. Putting a beloved animal to sleep is one of the hardest and bravest things we ever have to do. It''s a very difficult decision to make, and then you wonder if you did the right thing even though you know in your heart that it was the only choice. I had to have my 16 year old ##er spaniel put to sleep one week ago today. I miss her so much all the time. I still cry every day and I'm not ready to talk about it face to face with anyone yet. That's why I'm glad I found this site so I can write down how I feel to people who understand what I am going through. You've got some sad days ahead of you, but it will get better in time. Keep checking back here and talk to us and let us know how you're doing.

Thanks for your support. It's really hard to deal with putting down a pet... I think we both did the right thing though, now they aren't suffering anymore. *hugs*

I am so sorry for the loss of your Zelda. Cancer is horrible. I lost Lucy my dog at a young age to cancer as well. It totally sucks and doesn't seem fair at all. And for you to lose 2 others in such a short period of time...It's almost too much to bear. I am so, so sorry. I know your babies are free from any pain that they ever had and are all together now, keeping each other company.

Thinking of you, Caroline

I'm so sorry to hear about Zelda. Cancer is an awful disease. Shiloh was only 5 years old when I had to have her put to sleep because of lymphoma. I'm also very sorry that you've had to suffer so many losses in one year. Right now I'm dealing with my second loss in less than a year...my cat Hobbie just died 3 weeks ago.

It's hard to be dealing with so much grief in such a short period of time. I'm so very sorry.

Hugs,
Kathleen

Thank you so much for your support, it's really helping me deal with this. I'm sorry for your losses as well, I'm sure they were absolutely wonderful.

I saw a Rainbow today and was automatically reminded of the Rainbow Bridge and started crying. I missed her so much and today was the first time I left the house since she passed. It was so heartbreaking not to come home to her waiting, wagging her tail and whining for us to come pet her.
