Pedigree Cats, How many people have them? Options

Just out of interest, how many people here have pedigree (full bred) cats?

I'm not sure I've even seen a pedigree cat in the flesh.

My 2 are moggies! Sasha is a black shorthaired cat, and Darcey is a tabby shorthaired cat.

I never met one. I never heard of one.

I heard of pedigree dogs cause they are licensed by the AKC which proves they are pedigree dogs.

Never heard of cats being that way. Wonder if anyone else has?

Yes there are pedigree cats. Persian and Siamese are the two that come to mind as I remember my mother-in-law's cat and my friend Sandie's cat. The persian that belonged to my friend was a long haired white Persian who was quite beautiful. Her name was Angel.

The only Siamese I ever knew was Michen who belonged to my inlaws and passed away many years ago.

If I am not mistaken, I think the Maine Coon also is a pedigree cat. However I have only seen pictures of them. At least one of the writers here in this forum speak about their Maine Coon.

While neither my friend nor my inlaws used their cats for show, many people do show their cats in compet*ition events in the same way many people show their dogs.

yes, there are pedigree felines, just like dogs, they have to be identified by the same kind of group like the AKC. They have to have do%%entation to prove thier bloodlines. And when you show them in pedigree cat compet*iton that is the only way you can show, But there are ocassionally an all breed competion, in my town they have them from time to time. You dont need do%%entation for these shows.

I was thinking about entering Boo, in one of these competions when they come arround again. But I dont think that he would hold still long enough for the judges to look at him. And , he is what is known as a moogy. mixed breed kitty.

But, he is just as good as any pedigree kitty. And pretty as one too.

The feline equivalent to the AKC is CFA. There are many breeds of cats. My Pax and Tatia are Cornish Rex. Since I have allergies to both dogs and cats acquiring the Rex along with provided a high quality diet negates my allergies . Cornish Rex do not posses the full coat of most cats, they only possess the down (the undercoat), so they are ultra soft, like chenille .

Hi Gilian, I think my Arthur was Maine Coon. At least that's what our vet thought. He did have a lot of characteristics as one execpt he was small. Which leads me to believe he was a mix of some sort. You spoke of Sasha and Darcey.. Is Darcey back..Did I miss something. Gosh, I hope so.. Ann

Our two moogy's..............

Daughters' Main Coon mix & our barn kitty Siamese mix. Mom was black & white & NO siamese ever seen around the farm. No other farms within sight & 2 siblings were both black.

They are pedigreed in our eyes!!!!!!!!!

Hercules aka Fat Boy is the Maine Coon mix (he is all hair & not fat at all)

I did some research on Maine Coons. I thought long and hard about getting a "pure breed" Maine coon" I debated this over and over, but I couldn't justify the cost of 600.00 when there are so many kitties who really need homes.

Those are our feelings. A one time, in the 70's we did raise a litter of Lilac Point CFA registered Siamese, and we did have a registered Tonkinese. I am not really against purebreds at all, but as you say, there are just too many "friends we have not met yet" out there who need our help and waiting to pay us back with "perfect love and perfect trust".

For example, I wish that I could have a Savanna Cat, or a Bengal because they are just so drop-dead beautiful, I would probably do nothing but stare at him/her all day.

But for the price of one of these, it would pay for food and routine vet care for the entire lifetime of a good old healthy barn cat! And would either of them give you more joy than the other? Maybe different kinds of pride, including pride of "Ownership" (One does not "own" a cat) or bragging rights, maybe, but no purebred "Staff" has bragged more than I do about my little pink-nosed (free) tuxedo, nor have they been loved in return any more than that poor old tattered stray, Miles, loved me.

I have British shorthair pedigree kitten.
I'll post some pictures tomorrow.
Her dad is a British blue and her mum is a brown spotted British shorthair cat.
