On Christmas night, my dear baby German Shepherd, Takoda, got loose. She was 7-years-old, a very skittish dog and very mistrustful. My friend, who owns a cat, had invited me and Takoda to her house for dinner, since I was alone for Christmas. As I got to her house, I asked her if it was safe to let Takoda off the leash, fearing that the cat had not been safely tugged away. I took Takoda off her leash when my friend told me that it was, indeed, safe to do so. Little did I know that my friend had left the door to her backyard open. Takoda bolted for the yard and, before my friend could close the gate, she had slipped out and was gone. We searched and searched to no avail. That night and the next day we posted flyers all over the vicinity where she was last seen. A good samaritan saw the flyer and called to let me know that Takoda had been hit by a car and died instantly. As it happened over the holidays, nothing was open, i.e. OSPCA, animal control, etc. I was told by the good samaritan that they saw 2 police officers standing over my baby's body, but when I went to the station, they had absolutely no record of it. Knowing Takoda is dead is already tearing me apart. Not knowing where her body is can only be described as constant torment. I just want to bring my baby home. I still have not been able to locate her.

I live in Ontario, Canada. Takoda was last seen, dead, in the Newmarket area, on Leslie street, between Davis and Gorham. Anyone with any information please come forward. I just want to being my baby home. Thank you.

And this is a poem, which I wrote for her:

You came to me a tiny bundle of terror and discombobulation
You remained a terror but transformed the discombobulation into consolation
I always knew one day I would lose you
I always knew one day I would miss you
Never knew that day would be so soon
Never expected that day would be under this particular moon
You brought me joy and I brought you toys
We had crazy times that we utterly enjoyed

You have gone now, my sugar and lace
But I am told that you are in a better place
I say bull~~ to whomever feeds me that lie
Because I know that your place is with me, when I cry
I miss you, Takoda, and I always will
But I will always celebrate you when I see your image on my window sill
When all is said and done, my dear departed friend
I know that it was you who always helped me mend

Rest in peace, my pet
One day I will see you again when I am dead

Oh my goodness, I am so sorry to hear about your dog! That is terrible! Aw I live in BC, so not much help to you. Have you contacted the shelters there? Maybe give some of the vet's a call and your municipal offices too?

I am so so sorry to hear about your dog, I lost my Lab last year and my lovely Lenny (cat) on Boxing Day - I know how difficult it is.

Just wanted to say hello, your poem was beautiful.

Thank you, Stormy. I have contacted everyone I possibly could but, since, it happened over the holidays, no one was open. I have been trying to find her body for almost 3 days now, to no avail. Glad you like the poem. I wrote it for my dear Takoda but I find solace in it as well. I read it over when I feel I need to cry but can't. Again, thank you.

Hi, TakodaMyLove, please permit me to offer you my sincerest sympathies in the physical loss of your beloved Takoda. Losing a beloved companion is never easy regardless of the circumstances or how long we are blessed with the privilege of their company. To lose their physical presence so tragically enhances the grief.

I hope you are able to locate your beloved Takoda, as I do understand how distressing it is for you to not know where she is. I wish there were some words of comfort I could offer you, but I know there are no adequate words in any language that can soothe the seering pain of loss in your heart. I am so glad you found your way here, and hope that you know you are among friends here who truly do understand what you are going through, and we are here for you for as long and as often as you need us.

Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers, TakodaMyLove, and that I look forward to knowing how you're doing.

Peace and blessings,
moon_beam

My fellow pet lovers and new friends,

Takoda's body has been found! My friend and I took a trip today out to all the local shelters and found nothing. Went to where she reportedly died, posted flyers and even looked into the dumpsters behind...nothing. Nobody had heard ANYTHING. Before we gave up and on a whim, I said to my friend, "I want to go back to the police station and at least find out what their procedure or protocol is when something like this happens." We did and, lo and behold, the officer on duty there told me that he had located the officer that was with Takoda when she died, who told him that she was picked up by the road crew and was taken to the Newmarket animal shelter or yard or whatever they call it. However, they still didn't know where she might be. But not to worry, he said, they had informed him that they indeed had her and would get back to him as soon as they knew for sure where she was. A short while after that, when I was at my friend's place, I got a call from Karen at the Newmarket animal control. They had her and, since Takoda did not have a tag on, they had treated her as a stray and gone ahead and bloody BURIED HER! To tell you the truth, I was in total shock. All I could say to Karen, repeatedly, was, "You buried her? You buried her? You BURIED HER?" She was very sympathetic and told me that, if I wanted they could very well have her dug back up, but I would have to wait until tomorrow to talk to her boss. I said okay and hung up. About 5 mins later, she called me back and told me that the guys were heading out to where she was buried and would be digging her up tonight. Can you BELIEVE that? Karen told me Takoda would be back at the yard tonight. I am going to pick her up tomorrow and have her cremated. Takoda is coming home! smile.gif

My healing process can begin now.

Thank you all again. smile.gif

Oh that is so wonderful!!! I'm so happy for you - well, you know what I mean!

Now at least you know where she is, what a comfort to be able to have her with you. I will get my Lenny back next week in a special urn, then he can be with our dog Storm who died last year.

Great news, I'm so happy you tracked her down, some people really rock!!!!!

Not so fast, Stormy! Remember when I said they were going to go dig her up tonight so I can go claim her body tomorrow? *sigh* Guess what? Not to be! It snowed quite heavily here last night and the guy simply could not find the location where he had buried her. Apparently, they don't have a designated burial ground! They just bury the strays in some wooded area! So...until the snow melts, no Takoda to cremate. However, the guy was nice enough to tell me that he will keep looking. The weather is calling for rain here soon so, hopefully, he will find her. MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!

What the bloody FU*K!??

Sorry for the outburst.

Hi Agnes,

As I wrote on your FB, I will be hoping and praying that the weather clears, and that they are able to locate your precious Takoda's body ASAP. I know that you will not be able to rest until they do so, and neither will I. I will wait anxiously for any news, so please keep us updated.

Thinking of you,
Cheryl x

Hi, Aggie, just getting caught up with your latest news. I, too, am deeply saddened that you will have to wait until the weather improves for your beloved Takoda to come home to you. The comforting news is that the people at the shelter are continuing to do their best under the conditions that Mother Nature gives them to find your beloved Takoda and return her to you. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers, Aggie, and that I, too, eagerly await to share your news that Takoda is finally home with you.

Peace and blessings,
moon_beam

Got off the phone from a Diane who works for the Newmarket Animal Control on Wed. She is FURIOUS that they just buried Takoda in some wooded area. Told me that, tag or not, this was someone's pet and should be kept at the yard for at least 5 days, so the pet owner could have a chance to claim it. Anyway, she is calling them right now and going to give them hell, and said she would make them, snow or not, find Takoda and dig her up. I was, to say the least, grateful. I also told her to reiterate to them that, if they do not locate my baby, they ARE going to be sued.

Spoke with Diane again a few hours after the first call and she said she had spoken with them and, once she gets ahold of Carl - the idiot who buried her - she will MAKE him go out there and dig him up, if he wants to avoid any legal issues. My baby was basically being treated like some critter! sad.gif

No word from Diane or anyone else yesterday or today. *sigh*

Hi, Aggie, thank you so very much for sharing with us how you're doing and the progress on getting your beloved Takoda back home. I am so glad you are continuing to follow up with this for as you are seeing if you don't no one else will. I'm glad you have given the extra incentive for them to follow through by letting them know that they are facing legal action if your beloved Takoda is not returned to you. One of the problems is that this has happened during the holidays, and of course people are more focused on the "merrymaking" and NOT on someone else's grief. Again I am so very sorry you are having to go through this extra turmoil, and I continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers that your beloved Takoda will be returned to you as quickly as possible after the first of the year - - if not sooner. Immediately wouldn't be too soon.

Peace and blessings,
moon_beam

Thank you again, moon_beam and everyone else. It is now New Year's Eve and still no Takoda. I have written to all the people in charge at the York Regional Road Crew, insisting that my Takoda be dug up ASAP if they want to avoid a HUGE lawsuit. Have not heard back from anyone of them. Guess they are all too busy celebrating!

The weather is calling for light drizzle today @ 2C and rain tomorrow @ 5C, which means the snow should melt enough for them to go and get my baby...IF they in fact know where they had buried her. OMG! I am so angry I don't even know what to say! Rest assured, my new friends, that the media will be informed about this! SOMEONE will pay for treating my baby as ROAD KILL!

Just got off the phone with the idiot, Carl, who 'buried' Takoda. Apparently, he is going to go and 'TRY TO LOOK FOR HER' this afternoon for 'a couple of hours'. He had the gall to say to me, "Um, I was off for a couple of days so I turned my phone off as I needed some sleep. Haha...I'm sure you can understand that...haha!" I said, "Carl, NO, I DO NOT understand that and you had better get back to me today with any progress!" What an IMBECILE!

Sorry for all the posts but...update again:

Just called Carl back and insisted on going with him to the site to help dig Takoda back up. He actually answered his phone with, "Good morning, Aggie!" He is not normal.

Will keep you posted.

Hi, Aggie, thank you so much for sharing with us how you're doing and the progress on reclaiming your beloved Takoda. I am so glad you insisted on being on site while Carl "searched" for your beloved girl. And going to the media is an excellent option if there is no success in reclaiming your beloved Takoda. The community should be aware of what happened to your beloved Takoda. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers, and look forward to knowing how things are going for you.

Peace and blessings,
moon_beam

Hi TakodaMyLove,

Before I begin, I have to thank you for posting a reply for my Pearl.

I am very happy to hear that you know what happened to Takoda and where she is buried. At the same time, I can't tell you how mad as I read your post. How can someone bury a dog without considering that this dog might be someone's baby? Lets see what happens when someone does this to the guy Carl?

Make sure that this Carl does EVERYTHING to find Takoda for you.

It's cold outside today, so make sure to stay warm. I will pray that you find Takoda soon!

Thank you all again! I have not heard back from Carl or anyone from the York Regional Roads Dept. I have, however, emailed them with my complaint and posted on Kijiji about the atrocity that was done to my Takoda.

http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-pets-other-ATRO...QAdIdZ342194823

I have also emailed, believe it or not, The Ellen Show about this. LOL
