As some of your already know I was a security guard until Snookie got to sick to work and I quit my job. I have already told the story of Snookie and I when we walked in on some stray cats and I didn't know who ran the fastest the cats, Snookie or me.

We had a thunderstorm in the early hours that reminded me of a time Snookie and I was at work. So I wanted to tell you what happened one stormy night while we were at work. I hope that you will be able to laugh along with me. It is a little long but I wanted to get most of it in.

We were at a factory where they make car seats, ash trays door locks, and things like that. The workers had gone home for the night and Snookie and I were all alone.

We had to walk inside the building every hour on the hour and we did a motor patrol every 2 hours. It was a mile walk and we no sooner got done when we had to go again. Snookie and I loved the job. Our last 2 years of work was spent at that site.

That particular night a storm was brewing and the wind was whipping the trees and the flags. Broken off tree limbs were blowing all over the parking lot, one of the lights broke in the wind and was about to fly off too. Snookie and I was out in the car enjoying the spring weather wind and all. I was on my cell phone talking to my sister and petting Snookie. We had just finished our lunch.

Suddenly a flash of light lit up the up the sky, thunder boomed so loud it made Snookie let out a screaming bark. I got scared when she screamed and threw the phone down in the floor board. I composed myself and picked the phone up. My sister said she had heard the thunder and heard Snookie scream. She said it made her jump hearing it all, she said we should go into the building at once.

So I got off the phone and Snookie and I went inside. I told her we may as well do a round since it was almost time for one. We got down to the other end of the building and the wind got worse. It sounded like the roof was going to cave in at any minute. You could hear it sucking in and out and it was loud and very frightening.

I told Snookie lets run and get back to the office where it is not as loud. So Snookie and I took off running as fast as we could. We got to the lunch room and I said Snookie lets go out to the door and run for the car. Well the car was about 1/4 of a mile from the lunch room but I thought we might be safer outside. We got to the glass doors and here came another flash of light and loud thunder. I was to afraid to go out in the open to run that far. I turned to talk to Snookie to tell her I changed my mind.

But Snookie had already took off running the other way. I was soon behind her yelling Snookie come back don't leave me. Even though she was afraid she stood and waited for me then we both took off on the run again. We made it to the office and sit huddled together until the storm passed.

I laughed and I cried as I thought about that night with my little girl by my side. I have another story about she and I as guards too. I will write about it some other time, oh how I loved my baby working with me. Sometimes we just wasn't the most brave guards but we did our best and gave our all.
Ann

Here is a picture of Snookie while she was at work when we sit out in the car. I always had a sweater on her and carried an electric blanket for her to stay warm.

Snookie had cushing's disease, and later developed diabetes. Both had cancer, Snookie had cancer of the liver, and Chili Bean had cancer of the pallet. Chili Bean was our son's chihuahua but we kept her often throughout her life and she stayed with us for the last 9 months of her life. Chili Bean also had asthma and heart failure. We will see you in Heaven my precious darlings.

Dear Ann,

What a cute story. Snookie loves you so much! She was such a good little guard dog. I could just see the two of you being scared together, but helping each other out so it wasn't as scary. What would we do without them? This is why it's so hard when they leave us because the give us so much.

Thanks for sharing your story. I can't wait to hear more guard stories.
Love,
Jenny

Alice Mae Bennett ("Allie") was born around May of 2003. She came home to us in July. On March 10, 2005, she became ill with a condition called mesenteric torsion or volvulus. It is a twisting of the small intestine which is nearly impossible to diagnose. Once symptoms begin it is usually too late to save the intestine by surgical means. There are no known ways to prevent it and its causes are also unknown. It is extremely rare, especially in medium-size females like Allie. It is more common in males of large breeds, like German Shepherds.

Allie was a sweet, happy and loving soul. I will miss her every day. Thanks for giving us these last two years, little girl. We'll always treasure them.

Ann, I have to laugh because after reading your post then looking at her picture, I'm betting (and visualizing which is what's funny) Snookie... at the entrance to the Bridge... wearing a little security badge and checking a list!! LOL!!! I'm thinking she's the keeper of the Rainbow "Gate" and protecting our babies right now.

Thanks for sharing that with us.

Hugs,

Pat

Thanks Jenny and Pat,
Yes Snookie did help me get past my fears when we had some bad nights. Just having her with me was comforting I knew she would keep any bad people away. When a few did approach my car they backed away real quick when she came up out of the seat barking like crazy. I don't think she would have hurt anyone unless they would have tried to attack me.

It may seem silly to a lot of people but Snookie did have her own badge that she wore on her sweater on the chilly days. I could tell she was so proud to wear it. We carried a small portable color tv with us and had a plug in cooler too, we had a lot of the comforts of home. The cooler is in the shed and I put the tv and other things away. I just can't look at them anymore.

Maybe my little girl is the keeper of the gate protecting all our babies she sure loved working. I would laugh so hard when we would get home in the mornings, she went running to bed as soon as we got in the door. I guess all those rounds we made wore her out but the next night she was ready to go to work again.
Love, Ann

Thanks Lynn, Snookie was my heart and soul and I never looked at her as a dog. She thought she was a human too and wanted to take part of everything I did. Anyway I'm glad you liked the story of what we went through that night. I think I would have been so lost without her in those dark buildings at night. Thanks so much, I am glad you enjoyed reading it.

I thought I would go ahead and paste one of the other stories I told about my little girl and I while we were at work one night. I am sure a lot of you already read it but I thought it would be nice to put it here with this one. Here it is:

I wanted to say one more thing that made me laugh so hard today. One day when Snookie and I was working at a place that made roofing products the factory was shut down and it was empty. However at least 2 dozen feral cats lived there, they had taken over the building and often jumped out at us. Snookie always acted a little nervous as we made our rounds since she always worried some of them would jump out at us.

On one particular day we went to check the pressure gauges on the computers they had in a little room. The guard that was there before me left the door open although it was his job to shut the door and to leave the lights on. He had shut the lights off and It was so dark I couldn't see anything.

I shined the flash light in the room so I could turn the light switch on. Several cats came screaming and running like crazy past us. I let out a scream of my own and I don't know who ran the fastest the kitty cats, Snookie or me, it didn't take me long to catch up with Snookie!!! We then went back to check the gauges and we quickly hurried back to the office. I told Snookie we were not very brave guards that day.

Dear Ann,

I always enjoy your stories SO much! They bring a smile to my face and a warm feeling in my heart. Snookie was NOT "just a dog", like so many non-pet owners think. Your stories show just how much Snookie was PART OF THE FAMILY! wub.gif

Hugs,
Cheri

Ann,
Those stories are just so cute. You brought a smile to my face with those! I can just see little Snookie as guard at Rainbow Bridge too! Someone should make a movie about you two as guards . . .
Love,
Marcia

Thanks so much Cheri and Marcia. I just had to post those stories and I know my Snookie would have loved it that it made people smile. Our nights at work went pretty fast since we had each other and it did not seem like work at all. We were so content to be together our years of working together just rushed by. I am so glad I had a job that she could be with me.
Love, Ann

LOL Ann. I love that story. How wonderful that you and Snookie were able to work together.
