Our 14 year old Springer Spaniel, Moosh, passed away on March 29, 2007.

I don't think I've ever felt so sad.

We knew for some time that it was coming as she had severe arthritis and suffered a minor stroke 3 months ago. On the 27th of March she had another stroke and could barely stand on her own. She stopped eating and just laid behind her ###### chair.

We took her to the vet fully knowing what he was going to suggest, which he did. The experience of being with her while she went to sleep is one we'd never change even though it was very hard in number of ways.

We're dealing with it in our own ways. I'm posting on my blog about it:

My wife Carol is posting on hers:

Thanks for reading. I really miss my friend.

She's everywhere in this house, but nowhere.

I am sorry, it sounds like she was so loved by guys. We lost our Misty the first week of December, also knowing it was coming at some point. The first three weeks are so difficult, please check back here often for support.

It sounds like you took excellent care of her and she was so happy with you. It does get better over time, although I agree with everyone here that the loss never completely goes away.....

I will keep yourself and your wife in my thoughts this week. Hang in there and know that you were a great parent to her.

Hugs, Amy

Mike and Carol

I'm so sorry you lost your Moosh, it's so hard to lose them. She was really beautiful. While things do get better, that sadness, that terrible sadness. Not all of it but a part of it stays. The house feels so empty.

When we lose someone close to us, our reality changes, things never 'go back to normal' we just learn to live in the new reality, without them. It seems so unreal.

Thinking of you and Carol and your Moosh

Thanks. You're both so right. It was a week ago today and life is very different. Moosh was such a big part of our daily lives we feel lost without her. I'm working from home, so I was able to care for her 24/7 and every time I stand up from my chair in my office I expect to see her there but she's not... she's just missing.

What I remember is waking up every morning for quite a while and thinking "Moose is dead", like a hammer blow to my heart. It's almost 6 months for me and that part does fade, it takes a while. I don't work so I remember getting up to go and do something and he wasn't there, he just wasn't. He wasn't in his kitty tower getting some sun, he was missing, very well put. My heart goes out to you and your wife.

Love

Mike and Carol; I'm so sorry for your loss of Moosh. I lost Hani, my 13 year old Maltese girl, 15 days ago, and spending time on this site helps me a lot coping with my grief. I hope you will also find the much needed solace from all these supportive friends here. I will keep Moosh and you guys in my prayer. Jay

Hello to Moosh's Mom and Dad, first of all, Springer Spaniels are one of my favorite dogs, (next to Golden's) my grandparents always had spaniels while I was growing up, they are just wonderful pals,
My heart feels extra touched by your story, we understand your pain, as our Golden Retriever Hrudey had to be PTS on Christmas morning, after a sudden illness who was 14 1/2 years old....it was necessary but so terribly sad and hard to cope with for our whole family. We are still hurting and are learning that we will always feel the sadness it just is something that somehow you learn to live with...you are in my prayers as well as wonderful Moosh, how cute is he?!!?! Peace and Love, From Hrudey's Momma, Papa and sister Sophie

I'm so sorry for your loss of Moosh. I too was working from home and was so used to taking care of Mo that the emptiness has been almost unbearable at times. This site has been a godsend to me, and I hope you'll keep coming for support.

I'm thinking of you, your wife and Moosh...you are in my prayers..

Hello to Mike and Carol (sounds like the Brady Bunch) I also want to welcome you both to this site. We've all been thur the heartache you guys are going thur right now so we understand how your feeling. It's so very hard especially those first few days.It feels like a bad dream that you can't wake up from.We lost our beautiful kitty Sox back on Oct. 13th so we understand what your going thur.Your Moosh was a beautiful dog and he was lucky to have you both as parents and you were lucky to have him in your life as well.It does get better,it just takes some time. It's been almost 6 months for us and it does get easier to manage. You start to remember all the great times you shared and you don't think so much about their passing.Thinking of their passing is just too painful. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers tonight and I hope you'll come back whenever you need someone to listen. We'll be here for you.Sincerely,Renee (Sox's mom)
