Lightning-Strike Pet Loss Support Forum _ New Beginnings _ It's A Tuxedo Girl

Posted by: DannysMom Feb 5 2012, 09:40 PM

I wrote about losing my precious cat Danny last December, and I decided to post a story about my new friend. Danny boy was a sweet and gentle Tuxedo boy, and now I have Mindy, a 6 month old polydactyl Tuxedo girl.

She is such a lovebug! She likes to play and she also likes to snuggle. She is a real talker, and so smart! She has truly comforted me over Danny's loss. When I cry sometimes she'll come to me and she'll touch me with her paw ever so gently, and she snuggles right next to me and starts purring like crazy. She knows when I don't feel like playing and she gives me space when I need it. I am hoping that God will bless her with a very long and happy and healthy life. She has such beautiful amber eyes! She has so much energy! She even responds to hand signals. When I put up my hands like I'm going to chase her, she'll start running. Such a smart little kitten! I couldn't have found a sweeter friend.

Hi, DannysMom, please permit me to offer you my sincerest congratulations on your new furchild. She is so pretty, and I am so happy that she now has you for her Forever Mom. Thank you so very much for sharing this wonderful news with us. I hope Tina will come to accept Mindy and that eventually they will be the best of friends and house mates. I, too, am praying that you and Mindy will have a long heathy and happy earthly journey together.

Peace and blessings,

Gorgeous....looks just like my little boy.

I'm sorry for the loss of your baby but also welcome to your new beautiful baby.

Moon_beam, Cheryl83 and xxForeverxx, thank you for your comments.
Mindy is doing fine. She had a vet visit this evening for a distemper shot. Everything looks good. Her adult teeth are almost all there. She was so good at the vet about being handled and getting her temperature taken. She was very calm and patient. I am so blessed with this fine little kitten. She is my little 'puppet', because she looks like a little doll, so pretty and immensely cute.
There is nothing sweeter to balance out the grief than having a new little life to take care of and watching her grow.

Danny's Mom, what a beautiful girl she is! Her eyes are so wise, so old and knowing for such a young face. Now I REALLY have no doubt that Danny sent her to be with you and look after you, and to help guide and support you through your grief. I'm quite in love with her paws!

Congratulations, and I'm so happy you have this lovely being in your life.

Kel, thanks for stopping by to read about Mindy. smile.gif She truly is a Heaven-sent gift. When I first held her she was frightened by all the noise at the shelter and snuggled up in my arm and buried her face in my elbow. I marveled at her extra toe on each front paw; it looks like she is wearing mittens. And I was taken in by her wonderful amber eyes. Mindy is very affectionate, and that seems to be the Tuxedo way. She likes to plop herself on the floor to show me her tummy. I am glad that she too enjoys tummy rubs as my other cat Tina does not want to have her tummy touched.

This is Mindy at 7 months. She has taken a liking to Tina's 'cat chair'.

Posted by: My Boo Bootsie Mar 9 2012, 04:18 PM

I'm so happy for you. My very first baby was Tux-we called her Tuxxy as she had the markings of a tuxedo as well. She was gorgeous just as your baby is. She will be a blessing and add so much happiness and joy to you and your home and you to her. I miss my tux so much, she has been gone but not forgotten since feb. 2000 and in May 2000 my husband brought home Bootsie. Bootsie just passed away Feb. 26, 2012 after a great loving life with us for 12 years. I am still heartbroken and my house is so quiet without her. I always told bootsie that tuxxy sent her to me to help heal my heart and that she did and twofold! I was so blessed to have her and as others told me I blessed her with a wonderful life and home just as you are doing. They are in our hearts forever and we are never the same after they are gone. Today I received a beautiful Peaceful Pet Revolving Memorial Box that I had ordered to put Bootsie's ashes in so that we can celebrate her life! It will be a beautiful way to remember her and it has spots for her pictures, and room inside the box for other things like her favorite toys(babies-they were sponge balls). I am very happy for you and pray that you continue to heal and remember that you have a new young one that needs you and is there to help heal your heart. God Bless! Patti

I know how much joy your little Mindy is bringing to you. Thank you so much for sharing her with us. I hope today is treating you, your precious Tina, and little Mindy kindly. Please know you and your precious furkids are in my thoughts and prayers, and that I always look forward to knowing how each of you are doing.

Oh, she is beautiful and perfectly marked, too! I had never had a Tuxedo before Iggy, and he is the one who helped me with my Grief over Miles.

Jon730, thanks for stopping by to read about Mindy. She is very beautiful indeed, and she is quite a handful! Unlike my Danny boy, she is a bit more feisty and stubborn. She LOVES shredding toilet paper rolls, but only if they are brand new and have LOTS of paper! She likes to "talk" quite a bit, and she is very social. A really sweet girl.

DannysMom

Mindy is gorgeous. Danny would be proud. She looks a bit like my little one Fudge....I will have to put a pic of him one day to show you.

I hope she is bringing you so much joy. She is lucky to have such a loving parent.

xxForeverxx, thank you very much for your comments and your kinds words. Mindy is indeed bringing me much joy by being so loving and talkative and playful. She is 8 months old now, and this is a recent photo of her stretched out on the stairs. She has grown so much in length, but her legs are much shorter compared to my adult cat, Tina.

That is a wonderful photo. If you don't mind I will post a picture of my Fudge when i get one on the laptop as you would not believe just how much they look alike. Almost like they are distant relations!....In fact your stairs are the same colour as ours too so I will try and get one of him laying on our stairs! smile.gif

I hope you and your Mindy are doing well today.

From Mindy's journal:

Oh, boy! I'm having such a great day! Mom let me out on the balcony, and I hid behind the chair to watch the two little creatures with wings that keep coming by. Mom calls them 'birds'. They look very tasty to me. If only I could catch one! Mom took me back inside just when one of the little winged creatures sat down on the railing and started talking to me. Then I jumped up to the window to continue watching. I started chattering. Mom said that is something Danny never did, and how he really liked birds. Well, I don't care. They look like dinner to me.

Come to me, little birdie!

Thanks, xxForeverxx, I am glad that it made you smile. Mindy is such a treasure, and when she blinks at me with those beautiful amber eyes it just makes my heart melt. She is so trusting and enjoys having her tummy rubbed just like Danny did. I love watching her when she is all drowsy and sleepy and blinks and stretches her legs.

Posted by: DannysMom May 7 2012, 05:39 PM

Here is Miss Mindy at almost 10 months. She is a tiny kitty for her age, weighing around 6.5 pounds or so, but this tiny bundle is so cheerful and loving. When she blinks at me with those beautiful golden eyes she makes my heart melt. Mindy has been quietly supportive since Tina passed on. She is as happy and cheerful as my Danny boy used to be. Mindy is very trusting. I can gently touch her and bring my face close to her body without her lashing out at me. She loves showing me her beautiful little tummy, and she has this remarkable, star-shaped white mark on her chest.

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you're doing and this wonderful picture of your little Mindy. How she has grown in the four months you have been together!! And what a little beauty she is!!! I know she is a great comfort to you, as you are to her, as you both travel your grief adjustment journey together.

Thank you so much for sharing your precious Mindy with us. I hope today is treating you and your little girl kindly. Please know you both are in my thoughts and prayers, and that I always look forward to sharing how you both are doing.

Moon_beam, thank you for your comment on Mindy's photo. She is very beautiful indeed, and such a little lovebug. She likes rubbing against me, and she LOVES to talk. She gets so excited when I open a window for her, and she'll sit there for an hour or more, just watching all the goings on out there. She is fascinated by the dragon flies and butterflies, and all the birds.

Something is bothering me though. Mindy has not napped in the 'cat chair' since Tina's passing. I gently placed her in the chair today, but she sniffed the cushion and then quickly bolted off the chair. This really bothers me, and I hope that in time she will sleep there again. It is such a comfortable spot, and Tina always loved it.

Posted by: DannysMom May 20 2012, 03:17 PM

Mindy is 10 months old today! smile.gif But even big girls still need their security blanket sometimes. Mindy has had this 'suckling' habit since I adopted her. She was probably separated from her cat mom too early.

Happy B-Day Mindy!

Theresa does the same thing when she gets on my chest - probably for the same reason. The shelter said they got her at 4 months, I got her at just over 4 years.

Help! I needs Kitty Weight Watchers!

Miss Mindy has gotten a bit "chubby". But she is still a beautiful Tux girl kitty! smile.gif She likes pouncing on Shelley and wrestling with her, much to Shelley's dismay. Mindy will be 11 months old this coming week.

Happy Birthday Mindy!!!

Posted by: moon_beam Jun 18 2012, 09:01 AM

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing your precious Mindy with us. She has grown soooo big (and I don't mean chubby). What a precious little girl she is!!! Our babies don't stay small for very long, do they? One day they're helpless little kittens and it seems the next time we look at them they are big and beautiful. Unfortunately us gals of every life form have the challenge of keeping our girlish figures. My beautiful baby girl Abbygayle was a "full figure" gal during her earthly journey despite my best efforts. Now that she is with the angels I know she is slim and trim. Your little Mindy may need to go on a special "weight watchers" diet. When you take her in for her next check up you may want to talk to her doctor about this.

Thank you so much for sharing your precious Mindy with us. I hope today is treating you, your precious Mindy, and baby girl Shelley kindly, my friend, and that you and your precious furkids will have a very peaceful, blissful, and cozy evening. I thank you and your precious girls for your cherished friendship. Please know you, your precious Mindy and baby girl Shelley are in my thoughts and prayers, and that I always look forward to sharing how you're doing.

Well I just had to have a little giggle when seeing that post of your beautiful Mindy..........I took my little girl Pixie to the vets last Wednesday as she throws up sometimes (we think it's just a dietary problem) and he weighed her and I said "she's a little underweight isn't she" and he said "actually if anything she's a little podgy!!" well you should have seen Pixies face......but to make it weird you say that about your Mindy........she looks almost identical to my Pixie!! In fact I'm so amazed I'm gonna log on the laptop now (as I'm on the iPad) and upload a photo of pixie to show you what I mean smile.gif

xxForeverxx

Posted by: xxForeverxx Jun 18 2012, 04:13 PM

Ok......I will get a better one of her lying down on the floor tomorrow during the day where eyes arent scary from the flash etc as also the likeness can not be seen that much from these two I just took but here we go!

xxForeverxx, your Pixie is sooo cute! And she really does look so much like my Mindy, especially her face. She has almost the exact same white blaze on her face. And the coloring on her front and back paws is very much like Mindy's. What a cute little cat!

I'll post another photo of Mindy so you can see that she really is a chubby little gal! smile.gif

Posted by: DannysMom Jun 18 2012, 06:10 PM

Size matters not, ... Look at me. Judge me by size, do you?

I just had to do this. smile.gif She reminds me of Yoda, sitting there like this.

Moon_beam, Mindy eats mostly canned food which isn't supposed to make them fat. I am watching her portions already, but she is much less active than Shelley. I'm really hoping that she does not have a congenital heart defect or something like that. She was very active when I first got her, but she did slow down after Tina died.

Posted by: moon_beam Jun 19 2012, 12:29 PM

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing your precious Mindy with us. When you take her for her next check up you may want her doctor to run a full blood panel on her to include her thyroid - - just as a precaution as a means of elimination of causes for her weight gain. If her thyroid is underactive her weight gain and inactivity could be a "symptom". Please do NOT panic about this. My Noah undergoes a routine complete blood panel work up as part of his medical check ups, too. Hill's and Purina make a canned "weight loss" food that might be able to help your precious Mindy get her girlish figure back - - but they are prescription foods that you can only get from your veterinary practitioner. My Noah is on the Hill's which is his primary meal during the day. In the evening I do "cheat" and give him the regular single meal canned Hill's food because of the wider variety of meal selections. I can hardly get his dinner into this bowl!!! I know your precious Mindy is in EXCELLENT care with you as her Forever Mom. Your veterinary PCP will be able to give you the best guidance.

Moon_beam, thank you so much for your suggestions and recommendations. I was actually thinking she may have a congenital heart defect or something like that. She has been a bit more active in the past few days, and I make sure that I give her special attention since she was used to being the #1 girl and Shelley's addition has shaken things up a bit. Maybe she feels a bit intimidated by Shelley's athletic skills and seems to think "Ok, I'm the fat one, so what's the point in competing?" She loves chasing Shelley around, and that should give her some good exercise.

Today, Mindy is 11 months old! She was sharing the jungle gym platforms with Shelley for a good nap.

Thank you for the wonderful pictures of your precious girls. I can see a mischievous glint in your Mindy's eyes "hmmmm - - now if Shelley just lets her tail hang down - - or maybe I can make a sneak attack - - hmmmm - -- strategy is called for here." Your girls make a wonderful pair, and I know they fill your heart with joy with their antics. So glad to know that Shelley is getting more settled in.

Hi DannysMom

I just love that photo of Mindy sitting upright smile.gif really put a smile on my face. I think with a bit of time of the two running around she will lose a little bit of weight. This is the problem I have with Pixie.....she lets the other two play and only joins in sometimes when she feels like it so i can think that this is the reason for her pot belly as I only feed her the normal amount a day.....and she throws it up sometimes!

It looks like they are both starting to get along just fine in that photo of the jungle gym which is good to see. I think indoor cats are good for our own fitness too considering we have to try and keep them active so in the process exercise ourselves! is knackering sometimes wink.gif

xxForeverxx

Posted by: DannysMom Jul 3 2012, 06:25 PM

xxForeverxx, I am glad that Mindy's picture made you smile! She is such a cute little tux girl, and she has the most amazing golden eyes! I call her Mindy GoldenEyes Oddpaw. She has two extra toes on her right paw and just one extra toe on her left paw. Mindy loves chasing Shelley around, and Shelley always outruns her. Mindy and Shelley are such good friends now. Mindy is crazy about giving Shelley kitty baths. She loves licking her head and ears and does so every chance she gets. She will hold down Shelley so that she can't get away while Mindy "washes" her. I've never seen such an affectionate kitty.

Posted by: DannysMom Jul 10 2012, 05:34 PM

Miss Mindy weighs in at 10.4 pounds! sad.gif Not good at all! She shouldn't weigh any more than 9 pounds at the most. Now I have to watch her portions even more. What is it with the Tux cats and weight? Danny always had weight problems as well, and I don't want Mindy to get congestive heart failure. I feed her mostly canned food which should keep her full longer and it has less calories than dry food.

Moon_beam, thanks for stopping by. I'm just amazed at how much weight even Shelley gained on this food in a short time. She went from 7.38 just a couple weeks ago to 8.00. So, this is some potent stuff! I got the Organix Feline Indoor Adult food today, and Shelley ate some of it. I hope that Mindy will like it too. She used to eat it back in January.

Miss Mindy jumped on the couch with me last night and snuggled up right beside me with her head rested on my side. She hasn't done this in a long time, but it didn't last long. After a few minutes of me petting her she got up again. sad.gif Well, she's a teenager in human years, so right now she wants her independence! Even so, she did sleep on the bed with me last night.

Posted by: DannysMom Jul 14 2012, 01:00 PM

Miss Shelley is quite the acrobat. Yesterday evening she was batting around a toy ball that has a bell inside. She chased it all over the place, batting it, and carrying it in her mouth like a prized trophy. She is so athletic, and when she gets bored she knows how to entertain herself. I had to smile every time I heard the jingle, jingle, jingle of that little ball.

Mindy is just SO beautiful! I love her eyes and the color of her fur. Many, many years ago, we had a kitty called "Shadow" - another black cat - and he was a polydactyl as well! I love that they have what look like thumbs! It's wonderful that Mindy likes to play as well as snuggle. And being a talker and smart is also another nice component! I can just see how she can melt your heart. I see that you got her back in February, but I just saw this so I want to say "Belated Congratulations"!

Posted by: xxForeverxx Jul 16 2012, 06:22 AM

I am sure she can lose the weight......especially if she keeps runnign around chasing toys like she does!

I had the problem with pixie throwing up after eating and she was a little over weight so what I do now is feed her half a pounch in the morning, half a pounch for lunch and half the normal amount of crunches she would usually have in the evening and she seems quite happy with that......so far!

She's only got to lose about a pound right?

I'm letting the cat out of the bag...July 20 Miss Mindy will be 1 year old.

For some reason both Mindy and Shelley love to hide in this green bag. Shelley even snuggles up in it with just her head sticking out. Tonight Mindy snuggled up in my lap for almost an hour. Shelley got jealous and meowed, but there was no more room, so she knocked a beanie baby down.

Hi, DannysMom, sending "birthday greetings" to your precious little Mindy, and hoping this finds you, your precious Birthday Girl, and your precious Miss Shelley doing well and in good spirits. What an adorable picture of your precious Mindy. And I am so chuckling about your Miss Shelley swatting a beanie baby onto the floor, "gee whiskers, there's no room for me on mommy's lap, and I wanted to snuggle, too." I bet you and your precious Miss Shelley found some snuggle time later on, and all is right wth the world once again.

I hope today is treating you, your precious Birthday Girl Mindy, and your precious baby girl Miss Shelley kindly, my friend, and that you and your precious fur family will have a very peaceful, blissful, and cozy evening. I thank you for the blessing of your friendship, DannysMom, and of your precious little Mindy and baby girl Miss Shelley. Please know you and your precious girls are in my thoughts and prayers, and that I always look forward to sharing your news, and your treasured memories of your beloved Danny and Tina.

I hope Mindy had a great birthday. She looks so cute in that bag.......from that picture she does not look overweight at all just a cute little fluffy kittycat smile.gif

xxForeverxx, thanks for commenting on Mindy's birthday picture. The reason she doesn't look overweight in this photo is because the bag is strategically hiding her trouble spot! smile.gif The last time she was at the vet one of the techs remarked that she's never seen such a big tummy on a cat. I thought "Thanks a lot! (not)" I've been giving Mindy more canned food and hope I can slim her down that way. Unfortunately she is much less active than Shelley. Mindy's favorite activity is looking out the window. She just loves to see what goes on out there. And her next favorite activity is grooming Shelley and wrestling with her. And she is so considerate. When I pet Mindy and Shelley just looks on Mindy always goes to Shelley afterward to give her some kitty lovin'.

Yum, that was good!

The name is Bond...Mindy Bond. She wears a Tuxedo and has a license to claw. Here she is on her latest mission to capture the world famous thief, Nervous Nellie.

Tom's Dad, yes she does have such a serious look on her face that would make you think she's up to no good! smile.gif But it was rather innocent fun, with Mindy giving Shelley some kitty lovin', grooming her face and ears.

What a smile once again those photos of Mindy have put on my face! They never fail to amuse me rolleyes.gif

The first pic of her licking her lips is like shes saying I am not overweight.....I just like foooooodddddd!

and the second what you wrote with it was so funny! Shelley just looks like shes thinking right i will pretend like she has got me for this photo so Mindy feels she has won smile.gif Bring me some more pics to see!

for xxForeverxx and anyone else who enjoys seeing photos of my Mindy, here is another cute one that really shows off her pretty markings. Isn't she cute? She often sleeps like that. When Mindy gets into play fights with Shelley and Shelley gets too rough then Mindy looks at her with flattened back ears and angry eyes. Last night she even hissed at Shelley.

Shelley doesn't seem to hiss at all. She just lets out little shrieks when Mindy gets too rough with her.

haha Ellie loves seeping on her back. I always think it looks really funny. She looks sooooo cute I just want to cuddle Mindy up! Does she like to lay in the sun? As if mine find even the slightest spot of sun shining through a door or window then they try and sun bathe in it!

xxForeverxx, I'm glad you like the picture of Mindy. She loves sleeping in the sun and letting the sun shine on her back. smile.gif She also likes looking outside the window and watching what's going on. Sometimes I let her go out on the balcony, but she hasn't been outside the door, and she hasn't really shown an urge to go outside. She was picked up as a stray with her brother, so I guess she had her fill of the outdoor life.

Posted by: DannysMom Sep 23 2012, 12:41 PM

Miss Mindy loves feather teasers, but unfortunately she also always breaks them as they are not "Mindy-proof". She'll find a way to break off the feather thing and then she brings it to me to play with. I try to fix them, and yet she still breaks them. Sometimes she wedges them under the couch or under a table to see if she can get them back out. She likes solving "problems".

Last night I was looking for Shelley and so surprised to find her with Mindy on the "bug watch" downstairs by the door. They were sitting side by side, and Mindy was keeping an eye on the left side of the door while Shelley was guarding the right side. This is the first time I have seen them on bug watch together. Mindy is rather obsessed with it. She can sit there for hours, waiting for bugs to come in. She still is very fond of "her" green bag and likes to curl herself up in it.

Oh my......you always know how to make me smile with your pictures. That is fantastic. She looks so......content rolleyes.gif

I bet they really are starting to work well as a team. In that photo she has her eyes slightly open as if she is saying "yes take a photo.....then rub my belly" laugh.gif

Posted by: DannysMom Sep 28 2012, 05:56 PM

xxForeverxx, I'm glad you enjoyed the picture. smile.gif It is one of my favorites. She does indeed look so relaxed, and I believe I did rub her tummy after I took the picture. Mindy often rolls over on the floor and allows me to rub her tummy. It is something I enjoy immensely and a tradition that started with my sweet Danny boy.

Miss Mindy and Miss Shelley had another spat where Shelley got a bit too aggressive for Mindy's liking (she wants to win the fights). First, Mindy hissed and growled and flattened her ears back, but Shelley just stood there and looked at her. Quickly, Mindy swatted Shelley's nose with her paw 4 times as if to say:"Take that!" Shelley flinched, but kept looking at Mindy as if to say:"Oh, yeah? Is that all you got?" Mindy just gave her a disgruntled look and walked away. She doesn't hold grudges though and always comes back to play with Shelley.

Here is a great picture of my sweet Miss Mindy that really shows off her beautiful golden eyes. Mindy is a gentle kitty girl who enjoys being petted. Lately she has surprised me with unexpected, quiet visits to sit on my lap. She enjoys sitting with me for as long as I let her. Mindy growls and hisses when Shelley jumps on her back, but she doesn't hold a grudge and always enjoys playing with Shelley. Their friendship continues to delight me and I so love seeing my "girls" play together.

Isn't she so beautiful with her little white socks and her white bib? smile.gif

So happy for you, I have a special place in my heart for tuxedo kitty cats. I lost my tuxedo boy 3 years ago now, he died tragically and it broke my heart.. Eleven months later I adopted another tuxedo boy and I knew once again what it was like to be happy.
Your Danny looked like a beautiful dear boy and your Mindy looks like a real cutie, just adorable. xx

PS, I adopted my new boy from a rescue home, which led me to fostering cats for that same home. I now have 4 adopted cats of my own, plus 6 foster cats and very close to being minus one husband. I also have 2 rescue dogs, so a pretty full, but loving house.

Madi, I am sorry for the loss of your tuxedo boy, but so happy to know that you adopted another tuxedo boy. The Tuxes are indeed special cats, very loving and gentle, and so smart! smile.gif My Danny was a very happy, laid back Tux boy who loved getting his tummy rubbed and playing with feather teasers. Looking into his sweet, smiley face always warmed my heart. Mindy is just as sweet. She mostly talks in baby-like screeches, and she also loves getting her tummy rubbed.

How wonderful that you have adopted 4 cats as well as fostering 6 others plus 2 rescue dogs! smile.gif You do indeed have a full house, full of love! When Mindy and Shelley (my calico) snuggle with me at night I feel so loved and protected. They are my sweet, fur-covered little angels! smile.gif

Thanks for your post.

That picture of them sitting together is really a fantastic picture. It shows you just how far they have come already on their journey. It's a photo you will look back on in years to come. Mindy has a very strong personality by the sounds of it and she wants what she wants but at the same time as she is such a caring cat that is why she doesn't hold a grudge long. Two very special kitties who haven't replaced and never will replace Danny and Tina they have just taken over the job of protecting you so Danny and Tina can have their next part of life running wild and playing with all the other fur babies up at the bridge.

Posted by: DannysMom Oct 27 2012, 01:58 PM

xxForeverxx, thanks so much for your kind words. It is always good to hear from you! smile.gif You are right in saying Mindy has a strong personality. Sometimes when we play and Shelley want to join Mindy runs her off by chasing after her. But she always likes grooming Shelley and playing chase with her.

I had thought hurricane season was over and we had dodged it, but here comes hurricane Sandy, taking aim at the East coast. So, this will be my first hurricane with Mindy and Shelley. We're already getting a bit of wind and rain here, and by Monday morning Sandy should be here. I can deal with the wind and rain, but I don't need any power outages right now. Be glad you don't have hurricanes in England!

I had to remove an overgrown claw sheath on one of Mindy's extra toes. I didn't know she had TWO extra toes on her left front paw, so I had always missed that one. It was almost cutting into her paw pad. I trimmed it real gently and then the whole sheath came of and exposed a clean, white claw. Mindy let out a small gasp, but she wasn't hurt. And she was so thankful that the thing was off. She seems more active now and scratches less. Of course, now I can't call her "OddPaw" any longer, but that's okay. She is still my "Mindy Goldeneyes". smile.gif

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you and your precious Mindy and Shelley are doing. So glad you were able to get Mindy's nail taken care of. I can imagine how painful it would have been if that nail had begun to dig into her paw. Mindy is so blessed to have you for her diligent Forever Mom.

Hope you and your precious girls are safe from the effects of Hurricane Sandy. Have begun to hear about coastline evacuations along the VA shore on the news and wonder if you and your girls will also need to seek shelter on higher ground.

I hope today is treating you and your precious girls kindly, DannysMom, and that each of you will have a very safe, peaceful, blissful, and cozy evening, and that you will not be adversely affected by Sandy. I thank you for the blessing of your friendship, DannysMom, and of your precious little Mindy and Shelley. Hi DannysMom

I have seen the news over the last few days and how awful hurricane Sandy has been and is still being. I hope you are ok and Mindy and Shelley. Please let us know as soon as you are able to.

You saying about Mindy's two extra toes has made me think that maybe the little minx wanted a thumb so badly lol It is something that makes her Mindy though smile.gif

Posted by: DannysMom Oct 31 2012, 01:18 PM

xxForeverxx, thank you so much for stopping by and for your concern. You are very kind. Thankfully we never lost power during hurricane Sandy. I live in southeastern Virginia and we were really spared from the destructiveness of Sandy. We did have lots of wind and rain and it can somewhat wear you down hearing the constant howling of the wind and the rain lashing against the windows, but it is nothing compared to what people in New Jersey and New York went through. Mindy and Shelley slept more than usual during the hurricane. They were just real quiet. Apparently Sandy is the largest hurricane recorded on record to date. She was just so monstrous, over 700 miles wide.

I hope you are well. When is your baby boy due? I'm sure Pixie, Fudge, and Ellie will welcome him with open paws. smile.gif

Posted by: xxForeverxx Nov 9 2012, 05:58 AM

Hi DannysMom

I am glad to hear that you were not hit that badly. Mindy and Shelley probably new something was not right hence there quietness. At least they have a nice home to relax in with someone to look after them and cuddle them when they are scared.

Is the weather a lot better there now?

Our little boy is due on the 25th February. So I am almost 25 weeks. I actually watched a video online of my friends little girl the other night and the little girl was cooing away and all three of mine ran into the sitting room with their ears pricked up looking around, eyes dilated, as if to say there is an intruder in the home haha!

How is Mindy today?

xxForeverxx, thanks so much for stopping by. The weather is better now, definitely. We had a bit of a nor'easter just this past week, but it wasn't too bad as most of it stayed off our coast.

That is so funny how your cats came running when you played the video of your friend's little girl. I'm sure they will do just fine with your little boy. It may take them a little while to get used to him, but they should be alright. It will be quite exciting for them I'm sure.

Miss Mindy gave me quite a scare this morning. I heard her cough and found her crouched low on the floor, trying to cough and she sounded very congested and it looked like she was having trouble breathing as it looked like her lungs were working real hard. It reminded me of Tina, and I got so scared and rushed her off the vet, crying all the way in the car and Mindy was meowing quite a bit.

Thankfully, the put her on oxygen right away, and they checked her out. Her lungs sounded fine, but the vet thought that her sinuses might be congested or that she could be having some acid reflux. They gave her a steroid shot to calm down the inflammation and gave me some carafate to give her twice a day to help soothe her throat. They also want me to try some Pepcid on Mindy to see if that helps. Her heart and lungs sounded fine.

The bad news is that she gained 1 whole pound since July and is now at 11.4 pounds. She has GOT to lose weight seriously! I suspect she eats most of Shelley's dry food in the morning, so I will give a bit less to Shelley. I'll just really have to restrict her portions and try to get her to play more to get her weight down. It really worries me.

I guess in hindsight maybe I overreacted a bit this morning, but I was soooo scared that something was seriously wrong with her and I didn't want to take any chances. I'm just so conditioned to expect the worst that I thought I was going to lose her like I lost Danny.

Posted by: moon_beam Nov 10 2012, 03:12 PM

Hi, DannysMom, I can so understand your concern for your precious Miss Mindy. You did the very right thing in taking her to see her doctor, DannysMom. Upper Respiratory distresses - - whatever the cause may be - - can invade the lungs very quickly - - so you did the very RIGHT thing in getting your precious Mindy to her doctor before her lungs became involved.

I hope the medication will help your precious Mindy. I also understand your concern about her weight. You may need to feed them separately, if you're not already doing this.

I hope you and your precious girls are being able to enjoy the rest of this beautiful autumn day together, and that you and your precious Mindy and Shelley will have a very peaceful, blissful, and cozy evening. I thank you for the blessing of your friendship, DannysMom, and of your precious little Mindy and Shelley. moon_beam, thank you for your support. Mindy seems to be doing better today, but she has hardly touched her canned food. She readily ate another dose of the carafate tablet wrapped in a pill pocket, and she also took some L-lysine treats. I just get so jumpy now every time she meows and check on her quite frequently. I don't want to miss anything. I gave Shelley a smaller helping this morning. I can't really feed them separately as they are both hungry in the morning. But I can watch their portions a bit more.

I am quite concerned about Mindy's weight and hope she can lose some of it. 2 pounds definitely need to come off, but it'll be a slow process.
She is such a gentle little cat and she did so well at the vet yesterday. She was calm and quiet and allowed the vet to handle and examine her. It's as if she knows that they are trying to help her.

Unfortunately as I came home from the pet cemetery today I found I had lost the earring from my left ear. It's snap down so it wouldn't have come off that easily. I stopped at Kroger on the way home and went back and checked there and left my name and phone number just in case. I know they're just earrings, but they were my favorite ones and very expensive too, 18k yellow gold hoops. Something was telling me not to wear them but I did it anyway. Maybe next time I should listen to that little voice. sad.gif

I'm glad you were able to visit your beloved Danny and Tina in their resting places yesterday. I hope there was no damage from the effects of the Sandy or the nor'easter.

moon_beam, thanks for your support and your comments. Mindy is doing better. She sneezes occasionally, about two times a day or so, but she is eating and drinking okay. I got her to go crazy chasing after a brand-new feather teaser. She loves these things and got some good exercise out of it. I just have to put it away in a safe place, because she will tear them apart. She is such a sweet little cat.

I found out that she like napping beside me on the couch when I watch a movie. She used to sit by the couch on the floor and I've often wondered why she doesn't jump on the couch, but I think she wants to be 'invited'. I picked her up one night and placed her on my lap, and then she laid down by my side. Last night I picked her up again, and she laid down to the left of me. I gently placed my left arm around her for some comfort, not knowing if she liked it or not. Oh, she loved it! smile.gif Mindy rested her head on my hand and enjoyed snuggling like this. She fell asleep like this and I saw her whiskers and hind paws twitch. She is such a loving little cat, very sweet and affectionate. And she is smart! Mindy just HAD to go in the little space between the dryer and the wall and she couldn't turn around to get back out. I told her to go backwards, and so she did and backed out of the tight space. I don't know she goes back there. I picked her up and hugged her after she came back out.

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you and your precious Mindy are doing. I am so glad she is doing better - - eating and drinking okay. I hope she continues to do well with her health, my friend. It is always worrisome when they are not feeling well.

Yes, sometimes our furkids want "permission" or as you so appropriately noted "invited" to join us where we are. I know how much your heart swells with joy with your precious Mindy snuggling close to you. To see her contented and happy in your love and care helps to make everything else somehow okay, too. And yes, your precious Mindy IS very smart - - to follow your encouragement to be able to back out of the space behind the dryer.

Your precious Mindy's experience reminds me of my beloved Eli and precious Noah, which I would like to share with you. To try to discourage my boys from getting behind the washer and dryer, I put a safety gate across the front of the space where the machines are here in the basement living quarters. Eli and Noah showed me this was no obstacle at all - - they jumped up on the top of the machines and then jumped down behind them. The dryer is easier to move, so a couple of times I had to move the dryer further away from the wall so that they had enough room to get out from behind them. A couple of times like that "cured" them of their fascination of jumping behind the machines. My beloved baby girl Abbygayle thought her brothers were totally dumb for doing this at all. She would sit in the middle of the floor while the "rescue" was in progress and then when they were both "free" she would look at them shaking her head as if to say "boys = dummies." I am so laughing as I'm remembering this. I hope your precious Mindy will soon realize there is nothing of interest behind the washer / dryer and lose interest in this activity - - if for no other reason than your peace of mind.

I hope today is treating you and your precious Mindy and Shelley kindly, my friend, and that you and your precious girls will have a very peaceful, blissful, and cozy evening. I thank you for the blessing of your friendship, DannysMom, and of your precious Mindy and Shelley. Please know you and your precious girls are in my thoughts and prayers, that I look forward to knowing how you and your precious companions are doing, and to sharing your treasured memories of your beloved Danny and Tina.

Hi DannysMom

I am sorry to hear Mindy has not been very well but am also happy to hear she is on the mend. It is always scary when our animals are ill as they are such strong creatures so they do not let on very often that there is anything wrong.

When it comes o feeding my cats I have to watch them eat.......which is not ideal as obviously other things need to be done but like Mindy if I do not watch them Fudge will nick his sisters food. Now Fudge is not over weight but it is not fair on Pixie so what I do is I feed Pixie and Ellie and then I make Fudge wait until they have eaten half of theirs and then I put his food in the bowl. He is getting quite good at waiting now but obviously it makes feeding time more time consuming for yourself.

I love to hear that she likes sitting next to you on the sofa now. She obviously was waiting for your approval and feels very comfortable with you now. Maybe it is where you helped her so much taking her to vets etc too she now loves you even more now then she did before smile.gif

How is the little one doing today?

xxForeverxx

Hello xxForeverxx, it is so good to hear from you again! smile.gif Mindy is doing much better. She still sneezes occasionally, but she is fine otherwise, eats and drinks normally. I still give her the L-Lysine treats to help with that flare-up of the herpes virus if that's what it was (the vet seemed to think so). The vet who examined her told me that she has four (yes, FOUR!) Tuxedo cats all from the same litter. That is so sweet!

Mindy was so good at the vet, quiet and allowed herself to be examined. I guess she is used to it from being handled and examined at the SPCA. She was so patient with the vet.

Mindy and Shelley had a little spat today. It all started when Mindy jumped on Shelley's back as she was resting on the perch by the window. Shelley let out a low growl to show she was not pleased, so Mindy jumped down. A little while after that Mindy jumped on Shelley's back again and tried to play chase with her. They rolled around and Shelley shrieked and got away. Mindy went right after her and grabbed her from behind with both paws. Shelley shrieked again and tried to get away. But they made up. They just have these little spats, but it's nothing major. They don't fight over who gets to sit where and they know I love them both so much.

Mindy talked quite a bit today. She makes these little screeches, and they sound so dignified and important. She definitely knows she is loved. Last night she jumped on the couch by herself to sit with me, but I was getting ready to get up and go to bed.

Today is a very pleasant day here, with a high about 60 and it is sunny and mild.

Hi DannysMom

I am glad to weather is lovely there at the moment. Its freezing here but I do not mind the frost on the trees and ground looks pretty.

I am glad to hear Mindy is doing better. Sounds like she is definitely feeling better herself they way she keeps trying to play with Shelley! Wow four from the same litter? There was four of Fudge and Pixie but my friend had already taken the other two. If they had not then I would have ended up with all four and it would have been great to keep them together.

Mindy has obviously learnt that the vets is where you go to get better so even though she hates leaving the comfort of her own home she wants to get better. It is so cute how she went to sit down with you but you needed to get up! its so typical isnt it. Mine do that just when I decide I need the toilet or to get a drink rolleyes.gif

Mindy sounds like a mischieveous little thing!

xxForeverxx, you are so right in saying that Mindy is mischievous! I did put up the Christmas tree on Sunday and she decided she wanted to chew on the fake needles. I told her no so many times, but every time I turned my back she would do it again. I think that she did it just to be stubborn as she does have a stubborn streak about her. Danny wasn't that way. He was always so well behaved and listened. Mindy wants to have it her own way. I snapped a picture of her under the tree which has become her new favorite spot in the evenings. I haven't observed Shelley under the tree yet. As I'm writing this Mindy and Shelley are having a little spat again. Shelley jumped on her back and bit her neck and Mindy didn't like that and started hissing. There is never a dull moment with these two girls! smile.gif

I got a big shock when I came home this afternoon. There was Mindy, sitting on "Danny's" blanket. This is the first time I've observed her sitting there. I just had to smile at seeing "another Tux" on the blanket. I put the Christmas angel doll up there in remembrance of Danny. I've always put it there for him and I can't imagine not doing it. Mindy was so relaxed and comfy and I just had to snap some pictures of her. I can just imagine Danny smiling and feeling honored that Mindy is using "his" blanket.

That's adorable. It almost looks like she's thinking about Danny.

Posted by: DannysMom Dec 24 2012, 02:30 PM

Tom's Dad, don't let her sweet face fool ya! Miss Mindy can be quite a little terror. I lost count of how many times she tried to snag ornaments from the tree (and succeeded a few times!). I thought about getting her a lump of coal for Christmas, but I love her so much and besides I have already bought her little present. smile.gif

Maybe so. But it's still an adorable picture smile.gif

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you're doing, and this wonderful picture of your precious Mindy. It's almost as if Danny guided her to his blanket letting her know that it's okay. And what a wonderful picture of her underneath the tree. Ah yes - - I can see the glint in her eyes - - "let's see here, what can I get ahold of - - timing is of the essence - - when mom isn't looking." As exasperating as this may be for you, it will also be among your many treasured memories throughout your earthly journey together.

Today is my 1 year anniversary with Miss Mindy. It was one year ago today that I met her at the SPCA and applied to adopt her. She was sooo tiny and she was scared when I held her. She hid her face in my coat and snuggled close. I noticed how silky soft her coat felt. She has the softest and silkiest coat, almost like a rabbit's fur. Mindy made me smile when my heart was so heavy. It felt so good holding this little tux girl and hearing her purr.

Mindy got her shots updated today. Her heart and lungs sound fine, no congestion. Sh did gain a bit more weight and is up to 11.9 pounds now, so I need to restrict her food a bit more and not leave so much in the morning before I head off for work. The vet said he wasn't too concerned with her weight as she is an indoor cat and still very young, but still it would be better for her to lose the extra weight, 2.5 pounds at least.

Mindy is happy to be back home. She did good at the vet and allowed them to handle her and was so quiet and gentle. She is my little angel! smile.gif Now she is happily napping by the window.

Hi DannysMom

I think they have now both laid on Dannys Blankets out of a mark of respect. And I think what better time to do it then now! She obviously felt a pull towards it and maybe it was a sign that Danny is ok where he is now. I love the fact that she tried to eat your tree! I made the mistake of having a real one this year again so pine needles everywhere!

Did Mindy enjoy Christmas?

I cannot believe it has been a year already. It is amazing how much she has grown both body and personality.

xxForeverxx

Posted by: DannysMom Dec 30 2012, 02:27 PM

xxForeverxx and moon_beam, thank you both for stopping by and for your comments. Mindy did so well at the vet. She was so patient. It's as if she knows that she is being helped there. Mindy did enjoy Christmas. She liked the Dean Martin christmas CD and the Kenny G christmas CDs. Those were Danny's favorites too. Both Mindy and Shelley enjoyed their toys I gave them and they were so good. This was our first Christmas together, so it will take some time to develop new traditions with my "girls".

xxForeverxx, it is nice that you got a real tree. I love the smell of the fresh pine needles! smile.gif Just please be careful that your cats don't eat the needles as they can cause real problems. And if you put an additive in the tree water, make sure the cats don't drink that either. I remember mom always used to put nitroglycerin in it or something like that. It's nice that you have that "extra" day in the UK, Boxing Day. Makes it nice to just relax and be with family and friends. I hope you had a nice Christmas as well. Did you get any snow? One of these days I'll have to hop over the pond and see the UK. There is just so much history there. I hope you'll have a great New Year's and that your fur kids won't be bothered much by the fireworks.

Posted by: xxForeverxx Jan 2 2013, 07:16 AM

Hi DannysMom

I am glad Mindy was OK at the vets. I think some cats do learn that they are there just to make sure they are OK. Did they find the music soothing? I bet they have been playing with their toys ever since......and wish it was Christmas all the time for new toys!

We have taken the tree down now. No chance of them drinking the water.......as we did not put any water in the base! rolleyes.gif Needless to say that is why there was so many pine needles on the floor by the end as the tree was dying! I kept them away from it as much a possible though although the fact that baubles were everywhere in our dining room was a sign that hey had played with it a couple of times. I want to get a massive fake one next year though as they do look just as good if not better.

No snow here yet. We actually usually get it around February time. We had one day in November but it was gone by the next day. We have just had lots of rain. Been quite bad flooding in some parts of the UK. We are quite lucky where we are as it does not food that much. You should definitely come visit the UK one day especially London. I bet it is a lot colder here then where you are though so I would be aware! laugh.gif

Our cats hated the fireworks but we snuggled up with them and they soon calmed down. How did your two little ones cope? I hope you had the best new year possible with the circumstances of course.

xxForeverxx

Posted by: DannysMom Jan 2 2013, 06:15 PM

Hi xxForeverxx,

thanks for stopping by! Yes, Mindy and Shelley found the Christmas music very soothing, and I'm so glad they liked it. Mindy really likes that ping-pong ball with the feather on top. She likes batting it around. Shelley has been playing with the catnip mouse like it is a real mouse. She throws it up in the air and catches it.

The fakes trees can be quite nice and life-like looking. Mine even has some wrapping around the trunk to make it look more like a real tree. It's got the multicolored lights and is 6 1/2 feet tall. I decorate with white and gold ornaments, and it's so nice to sit here in the evening and enjoy the lights. It's very comforting. I'll probably leave it up until Three Kings Day which is January 6. Curiously, Mindy and Shelley have been good with the tree in recent days.

I'm sorry to hear about all the flooding, but I'm glad it hasn't affected you that much. Our weather has been really mild, in the 40s and 50s during the days and in the 30s or just below at night. I hope it stays that way until Spring. Mindy and Shelley did just find New Year's Eve. They hardly noticed the few fireworks that we had. It's not allowed here in Virginia, but people drive across the state line to North Carolina and buy fireworks there. I think my two are waiting for Spring. They've been wanting to go out on the balcony to get some fresh air, even in this cold weather. I don't let them stay out too long, just a few minutes.

I was glad to leave 2012 behind. It felt like a big weight was lifted off my shoulders. I am looking forward to a good year with Mindy and Shelley.

Tonight, 1 year ago, I brought Mindy home from the SPCA. I just couldn't wait to go and pick her up. She was still a bit groggy from her spay surgery, and she went about exploring, then she settled down in "Danny's" kitty condo, his favorite place in the evenings. I can't believe 1 year has already gone by for me and Miss Mindy. She is a little sweetheart and I love her dearly. In the first few months all she wanted to do was play, play, and play! She was so energetic and playful. Mindy quickly learned to stay out of Tina's way as my Tina didn't take very kindly to the newcomer and made her protest known.

Mindy was such a comfort to me. Sometimes she would lie down with me in bed early in the morning and she would touch my cheek with her paw when I cried. She would purr so loud and snuggle close to me. It's like she knew I was hurting so much and needed to be comforted.

Mind is continuing Tina's tradition of pawing the humidifier. Tina was fascinated by it and would often strike it with her paw. Mindy is no less fascinated by it and she voiced her appreciation of the humidified air that helps us breathe better. She is very smart, and I do think she understands what I'm telling her. I love my sweet little tux girl with the golden eyes! smile.gif

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing your and your precious Mindy's one year anniversary with us. This is certainly a time of celebration, and I know your beloved Danny and Tina are celebrating your and Mindy's anniversary, too. Your precious girl has been a blessing to you throughout this very difficult year, as has your precious Shelley. I know both your girls bring much joy to your heart, - - they have their own special individual bonds with you that no other companion will ever have.

I hope today is treating you and your precious Mindy and Shelley kindly, my friend, and that you and your precious girls will have a very peaceful, blissful, and cozy evening. I thank you for the blessing of your friendship, DannysMom, and of your precious Mindy and Shelley. moon_beam, thank you for your kind words and for sharing Mindy's 1-year anniversary with me. I do indeed have a unique and special bond with this sweet kitty. Last night she snuggled next to me on the couch for a couple of hours as I had a throw draped over my body and she was lying down on the edge of the throw. I gently placed my left arm around her little body, and she shifted her body gradually to snuggle inside my arm and she fell asleep. Once in a while I felt her paws twitch, and every so often she would shift a little and stretch and touch my arm with her paws. I watched her sleep so peacefully and I felt so happy just watching her and having her by my side. She is such a sweet little cat, very loving. It's the best part of the day when I snuggle with my "girls". smile.gif

Curiosity almost got the better of Miss Mindy last night. I had lit one of the beeswax candles, and she wanted to check it out. Mindy watched the flame and got her head close to it. I told her to watch out and to stay away from the candle, but before I knew it she quickly flicked her right front paw over it, extinguishing it and splashing wax on her paw. Thankfully, it wasn't all that bad, but I sat down with her and tried to get the wax off her paw which wasn't easy. It's a good thing it's just beeswax. She sure learned her lesson though! Shelley was smart enough to stay away from the candle. But Mindy just HAS to try things. Just like Tina! I remember my Tina trying to swat the candle with her paw as well.

To make things better for Mindy I gave her half a can of Castor & Pollux Organix chicken and turkey canned cat food this morning. She sure licked that bowl clean! smile.gif I just wish it wasn't so expensive. She normally gets Holistic Select canned cat food. It did her good though. She was more active than usual today, chasing "sister" Shelley around and wanting to jump and catch the little toy mouse on a string, one of her favorite toys.

All is well in our little household today. Me and the girls are enjoying our "Caturday" together! smile.gif

Mindy has quite an interesting day yesterday. It started off so good! She got so excited about something outside that I took a peek before I headed off to work. A thin brown tabby cat with a white collar was making its way down the street. Mindy watched in fascination as if to say:"Mom, I didn't know there were other cats here!!!"

In the evening Mindy gave me quite a scare. She crouched down and had a coughing fit. I had never seen her do this before, and I got scared. She settled down, but coughed a few more times. I quickly read about coughing cats on the Internet and what it could possibly mean. She had a cold back in November and I was worried about her having a respiratory infection again. It bothered me so much that I decided to take her to the vet. Better safe than sorry! I'd rather err on the side of caution than have anything bad happen to my girls.

I took her to Bay Beach and we had to wait a while, but they were so nice and took really good care of Mindy. The vet said it didn't look like she had a respiratory infection. For peace of mind I had them take an x-ray and I dreaded the result. I've been so conditioned to expect the worst, and I was wondering if maybe she has a weak heart or heart disease. I was so worried about hearing bad news, but Mindy's x-rays looked fine except for what looked like a big hairball sitting in her stomach. Hence the cough! I was sooo relieved!!! They even gave me a CD of Mindy's x-rays which was really nice. Her heart and lungs look just fine, and now I have peace of mind. I was so fascinated by her x-ray, and so was Mindy who watched the big screen from her carrier. Her eyes got so big as she was taking in the strange picture.

I gave her some Laxatone and will continue her on that on a regular basis. The vet remarked about her beautiful, soft coat. Mindy really does have wonderful soft fur. It feels like silk. She was glad to go back home after spending more than 2 hours at the vet, and so was I.
She is snuggled up behind me on the chair as I am writing this. She has been especially loving tonight. I think she knows how much I love her and that I try to take good care of her. She was so patient at the vet, my sweet kitty girl.

QUOTE (DannysMom @ Feb 5 2012, 10:40 PM) *

Have fun with her and i hope you guys have a long life together

Posted by: DannysMom Jan 9 2013, 07:49 PM

EvEf, thank you for your kind words and your well wishes. I too hope that Mind will be with me for many, many years. I have grown quite attached to her and she is very sweet and incredibly smart. This morning I said to her:"Mindy, why don't you use the litterbox upstairs where it's warm?" Would you know it, a minute later she was in the litter box upstairs. smile.gif

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you and your precious Mindy are doing. I'm glad you were able to get your little girl checked out by her doctor to make sure there is nothing sinister lurking in her respiratory tract. Furballs can present a problem, and I think you will find a regular regimen of Laxatone will help to keep things under control. My precious Noah is also on a regular regimen of Laxatone - - has been since he was a little wee baby boy.

I am so glad that you and Mindy were brought together at the start of the month this time last year. I always think our departed loved ones have something to do with finding new love.

Your Mindy's incident with the candles reminds me of Chewy and how he was curious when he was really young and went to close and burnt a couple of his whiskers which stayed curly after that. And then Fudge did the same with the ones above his eyes. Nothing bad just one whisker is a bit curly but definitely shows you just how curious cats get! I am glad to hear she was not hurt badly. Like you say she definitely will not do that again! unsure.gif

I so agree with you on the going to vets to be on the safe side. That is also what makes you such a wonderful mum to them! I did think straight away she must have had a large hairball but if they do not actually cough anything up you have no way of knowing and she was obviously struggling to get rid of it so you did the right thing smile.gif I am so glad to hear that everything is OK with her too.

What a clever girl using the litter box after you hinted to her that she should. My fiance said to me about a month ago (he loves all the cats just as much) "I do not think they understand us" and I said of course they do! So he said "maybe we should chuck Fudge outside" and Fudge had been in the other room laying down asleep and low and behold next thing we knew we look at the doorway and there was Fudge standing with his eyes wide open with fear looking at us! laugh.gif My fiance had no intention of chucking him out of course it was a test but Fudge proved that cats are more clever then we sometimes think just like your Mindy!!

xxForeverxx

Posted by: DannysMom Jan 12 2013, 01:03 PM

xxForeverxx, thanks for stopping by! I chuckled at your story of how your little Fudge got all scared when your fiance jested about "chucking" him out. Yes, they DO understand us indeed! smile.gif And I bet your fiance was quite surprised! Poor Fudge, he must have gotten quite a scare. I can just imagine him thinking:"Oh, not, not back outside in the ditch! Nooooo!"

I don't know what it is with cats and candles. Poor Chewy and Fudge, I bet those curled whiskers looked real strange! I am glad though that they didn't get seriously hurt.

I too am glad that I found Mindy at the SPCA. I had pretty much given up as I had been to about 4 or 5 different places and none of them had Tuxedo cats. I still remember the first time I saw Mindy. The SPCA worker held her up and I looked at her and thought:"How odd, she has golden eyes." Danny had green eyes, so it was a change for me, but I didn't mind. When I held Mindy on my lap in the little play room I knew I wanted to adopt her. She was so good and so sweet and loving, didn't claw me or anything like that. The vet remarked how trusting and gentle she is. Mindy is feeling much better. She is quite frisky today as temps are in the lower 60s and it feels more like Spring. She chattered at the birds and pounced on "sister" Shelley's back which elicited a protesting shriek from Shelley who didn't want to play rough. Since we got back from the vet Mindy has been especially loving. I think she knows I'm concerned about her and want to take good care of her. She is so trusting that she allows me to bury my face in her soft, fluffy fur and just take in her scent.

My girls were sharing a window seat earlier and having a wonderful time together. Doesn't Mindy have such a cute face? smile.gif

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you and your precious Mindy and Shelleyare doing, and this wonderful picture of your precious girls looking out the window. Does your precious Mindy enjoy having her picture taken? My beloved Samson, a mixed Lab / Border Collie LOVED having his picture taken - - he would actually pose when he saw the camera.

I hope today is treating you and your precious Mindy and Shelley kindly, my friend, and that you and your precious girls will have a very peaceful, blissful, and cozy evening. I thank you for the blessing of your friendship, DannysMom, and of your precious Mindy and Shelley. Hi DannysMom

That picture is amazing as if you put it with the others of them together you can see them slowly getting closer and closer.......a story about a real friendship opening up smile.gif

Mindy is looking round as if to say were just having a look at the birds mummy don't worry!

Mindy obviously understands now that each time you take her to the vets it is because you are helping her....not being mean and she appreciates you for doing that now. How lovely that she is so calm about it now.

How are you and Mindy this week? As another month comes near to an end.....where does time go!

xxForeverxx

Posted by: DannysMom Jan 26 2013, 01:13 PM

moon_beam and xxForeverxx, thanks for stopping by and for sharing Mindy with me. She does indeed like to have her picture taken, and she will "pose" when she is in the mood. Shelley is more squirrely, so I have to be quick about taking her picture. I did take several pictures of them sitting at the window, and I have one where Shelley leans her head against Mindy's body.

xxForeverxx, you are right, times flies by and January is almost over. I'm looking forward to Spring, but I do enjoy the change of seasons. I like seeing the snow on the bare trees outside, it looks so pretty. I like the stillness and quiet of winter. There's nothing like curling up on the couch with a good book to read and hot cup of coffee or tea and having the heat turned up and feeling all cozy and warm.

On Wednesday night Shelley and Mindy delighted me with another encounter that I added to the family album. Shelley was napping in my desk chair and Mindy was eyeballing it, wanting to also sit there. So she jumped up there and stared at Shelley and raised a paw, but Shelley just looked at her as if to say:"Look sis, we can both sit here. So, make yourself comfortable." To my delight Mindy settled down next to Shelley and seemed quite content. After a while Shelley turned around and then Mindy happily rested her head against Shelley's body. They looked so happy together! smile.gif If Mindy had tried to do this with Tina she would have gotten a "beating" for sure. Tina did NOT share!

So, here is the latest treasured picture without much further ado...

Hi DannysMom

Once again your photos bringing a smile to my face. I get so excited when I find Ellie sitting with Fudge or Pixie so I know your excitement at seeing them lay happily together.

What have they both been up to lately? Up to any mischief?

xxForeverxx

Posted by: DannysMom Feb 23 2013, 02:43 PM

moon_beam and xxForeverxx, thanks for sharing my Mindy with me! I am so proud of my two girls, and they bring me so much joy. xxForeverxx, it's wonderful how Ellie has come to accept Fudge and Pixie. I know the two siblings have a strong bond, but they don't seem to want to leave out Ellie. I had a three cat household once, although two were "undeclared" as they were my roommate's cats at the time and I just couldn't say no. My cat at the time was Twinkie, a little orange tabby. Annie had Jinx, a long-legged, sweet Tuxedo cat, and Pixie, a neurotic Calico cat. Twinkie got along okay with Jinx, but not with Pixie.

I so enjoy seeing Shelley and Mindy together. This morning Shelley was snuggling with me on the bed and Mindy was running around, being her frisky self. She jumped on the bed and tried out some kung-fu moves on Shelley, batting her paws, but Shelley wasn't really in the mood, so Mindy left. Mindy likes to start play-fights with Shelley. Recently Shelley had laid down and Mindy was tapping Shelley's back with her paw which elicited a low growl from Shelley.

This weekend is nail-trimming time and I hope it will go smooth. Mindy is usually fine, but Shelley let out a low growl the last time I trimmed her nails and showed a bit of "cali-tude" there! I never could trim Tina's nails as she was too skittish and freaked out when touched her paw with the nail trimmer.

Mindy and Shelley get so excited every morning when I prepare Mindy's canned food. Shelley has taken a real liking to it and meows incessantly. The bowl is licked clean within a few minutes! smile.gif

The nail trimming went okay. As usual, Mindy was more patient than Shelley. I had a bit of trouble with the inner extra toe on her left front paw. She has two extra toes on each front paw and the inner toes are a bit hard to get to, not much room there. But she did so good. Shelley was watching us a bit concerned, wondering what I was doing with Mindy. Again, this time Shelley growled a bit, but she was okay. I tried to keep her calm by talking to her, and I gave both of them a little treat afterwards.

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you and your precious Mindy, and Shelley, are doing. I'm so glad the "pedicure" process went okay for you and both of your girls. I am so smiling about the treats afterward - - trreats do seem to have a way of soothing the stressed nerves. I am chuckling about Shelley's growl: "I don't like this, mom - - I really don't need my nails trimmed - - not really!!" I know the soothing sound of your voice helped to let her know that you love her.

I hope today is treating you and your precious Mindy, and Shelley, kindly, my friend, and that you and your precious girls will have a very peaceful, blissful, and cozy evening.

I am glad the nail trimming went OK. You saying about the extra toes.....my sister was renting a room at a family home that we went to visit a couple of months ago and they had a cat who had five toes. It was fascinating to see. She was an absolutley gorgeous cat just like your Shelley.

I bet Mindys kung fu moves were funny to watch! She definitely has a cheeky side in her personality.

What food is it that Mindy has? Must be yummy for Shelley to want to eat it too!

xxForeverxx, the food that both of them like so much is Castor & Pollux Ultramix Indoor Chicken and Vegetable stew. It has little cubed bits of chicken in gravy with some small peas and other vegetable pieces. It's a bit expensive, but I don't mind getting it for Mindy as it helps her lose some of the extra weight. Shelley has been putting on quite a bit of weight. She is always hungry. Mindy is very active and enjoys playtime. She was especially frisky and playful yesterday. She always seems to get that way on a Saturday as she is happy to have me home with her. Incidentally it is nail-trimming time again and I hope it will go smoothly. Mindy has been snuggling very close with me at night, either snuggled against my back or close to my chest. They both had some balcony time yesterday. I'll be glad when it warms up a bit. It has been unusually cold for March. We're supposed to be in the 40s again next week.

Here is a nice picture of Mindy peeking out from under the sheets as I was making the bed.

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how your precious Mindy and you, and Shelley, are doing, and this wonderful picture of your precious Mindy. I am smiling at her "helping" you to make the bed. And I am so smlling when you share with us: "She always seems to get that way on a Saturday as she is happy to have me home with her."

I hope Mindy's pedicure time goes okay, and am glad to share your news that both your precious girls enjoyed some balcony time yesterday. I know what you mean when you share with us: "I'll be glad when it warms up a bit. It has been unusually cold for March." It has been 15 to 20 degrees colder for this time of year on the western side of Virginia, too.

I hope today is treating you and your precious Mindy, and Shelley, kindly, my friend, and that you and your precious girls will have a very peaceful, blissful, and cozy evening.

Happy Easter from Mindy and Shelley!

I witnessed a sweet scene today. Shelley was napping on the pet bed when Mindy decided to lie there as well. At first she started scratching at the fabric with her paws and then she turned around to face Shelley who started washing Mindy's face and Mindy washed Shelley's paw. Mindy started to bite Shelley's neck and Shelley gave her a stern, motherly look that seemed to say:"Sis', it's nap time!" So Mindy quieted down and laid down with Shelley, her head close to hers and paws intertwined. That's when I quietly took a few pictures. After that, Shelley stretched and then lovingly draped one of her hind legs over Mindy's body. I couldn't stop looking at this sweet scene. They look so good together, and I'm glad they are such good friends. I think Mindy appreciates Shelley after the fiasco trials with the "thuggish" male kitty and the very grumpy Persian kitty. It's like Shelley and Mindy were meant to be together. Seeing them together makes my heart glad.

I haven't posted about my sweet Miss Mindy in a while. She has been so good to me. Sometimes, when she gets in the mood, she will play with the big pink "hugger" toy. I laugh so much when she is on her back, frantically moving all four legs, trying to catch the hugger as I wave it back and forth. She grabs it and kicks it with her hind legs, but sometimes she "scares" herself when she gets too frisky and then she runs off. Last Sunday she spent the whole afternoon up on top of the big jungle gym, snoozing on the soft blanket. Mindy's morning routine is to sit in the window and watch what goes on outside while I eat my breakfast. She rests her front legs on the window sill and it looks so cute when she sits there and looks outside. She loves watching the birds fly by, and we have all kinds of birds here, crows, seagulls, robins, mockingbirds, cardinals, ducks, geese, etc. While Shelley always comes down to greet me in the evening Mindy prefers to sit at the top of the stairs, but that doesn't mean she's not happy to see me. And every so often she surprises me by quietly getting into my lap and snoozing away. She also likes chasing after a soccer sponge ball, but Shelley always beats her to it. This morning my girls played chase together which is so much fun to watch. When one of them has "caught" the other then the "caught" one starts the next round of chase. Here is Mindy looking very proud with her hugger toy.

Hi DannysMom

Its lovely to hear Mindy is doing well.

Made me think if Fudge when you said she scared herself and ran off as he does that all the time.....sometimes makes me jump in the process as hes so quick!!

I love the fact she has a routine. Shes like a baby which is cute smile.gif i am sure she is much better behaved then a baby though and does not make as much noise!

What has she been up today? Well i suppose if she has a routine its the same old stuff shes doing wink.gif

She is such a cutie.

xxForeverxx, thank you for sharing my Mindy with me. She is very cute, indeed! smile.gif I thought she had gotten over her habit of suckling on blankets and sweaters, but today she climbed on my lap, started kneading me and suckled on my sweater, close to my chest. She got my sweater all wet, and she was purring all the while. Shelley just looked at her in amazement. I've read that cats do the suckling when they get separated from their mom too early. Mindy and her brother were picked up as strays and I know little about her history. She gave me such a satisfied and happy look after she was done suckling. smile.gif Friday night she happily spun around in a circle, chasing her tail. I think she can tell when it's the weekend and I'll be home for the next two days. But...the weekend always goes by so quickly. I'm sure looking forward to Memorial Day and having a nice, three-day weekend. We've had such a cool Spring, and I'm hoping it will warm up by then. I know it's been colder than normal in England as well.

This morning Mindy wrestled on the bed with Shelley and then she and I played with the hugger toy while Shelley was impatiently meowing for her chicken vegetable stew. She loves that food and just can't wait to get it in the morning. Mindy also loves chasing little toy mice when I throw them for her.

Posted by: DannysMom May 12 2013, 12:39 PM

Miss Mindy tried out the new cat bed yesterday and it meets with her approval. It is so cute! It has a hood for them to hide under and cover themselves. She crawled in there and snuggled for a while. She has been quite excited about the birds and the squirrels out there. She chatters at the birds any chance she gets. She loves sitting in the window and watching everything that is going on outside. Often, when she is downstairs by the door and I call her name she responds with a happy chirp and comes running back upstairs. I think cats are so misunderstood. Some people tend to think of them as aloof and too independent just because they don't respond to commands like dogs too, but I wouldn't want them to. Cats are actually very loving and sweet and get quite attached to their human. They have saved people's lives as well. They need to know that they're loved. They can tell if you don't mean it. I have always been fascinated by cats and would pet every stray cat that came across my way, because my parents were dog people and would not let me have a cat.

I love my Mindy. She has this quiet strength and tenacity, and she is so playful and sweet. And she always is well dressed in her beautiful tuxedo! smile.gif

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you and your precious Mindy, and Shelley, are doing - - and for sharing this wonderful picture of your precious Mindy in her new hide-a-way bed. She looks very comfortable and happy - - knowing that she is loved by her Forever Mom.

I totally agree with you that cats are misunderstood. I have enjoyed the privilege of having both canine and feline companions in my life. Each of them have their own unique precious personalities, and cats are as loyal to their human guardians as their canine housemates.

I hope today is treating you and your precious Mindy, and Shelley, kindly, my friend, as you and your precious girls celebrate Mother's Day together, and that you and your precious girls will have a very peaceful, blissful, and cozy evening. Miss Mindy gave me quite a scare on Tuesday. She had vomited a bunch of food and some puddles of blood mixed with bile and foam. I was scared to death and rushed her to the vet. They took some x-rays, but didn't really see anything except that her smaller intestines seem very well defined which is a bit unusual for a cat. My vet thought he saw some thickening of her small intestines which could point to a touch of pancreatitis or inflammatory bowel disease. I was so distraught. Mindy gets premium cat food, Castor & Pollux Organix dry and Castor & Pollux Ultramix canned food. But she has gained weight like crazy, over half a pound since December. I don't overfeed my girls and I'm watching their portions already. My vet though the dry food might be too high in fat and recommended I switch to EVO Weight Management which is actually a lower grade food than Castor & Pollux. Sigh!

I've decided to feed the girls a whole can of food in the morning and give Shelley only a bit of dry food afterwards before I leave for work. The canned food has only 74 calories per can and it is very filling. In the evening they get a bit of dry food and only some more if they come begging after that. I make sure I feed them only a bit at a time and hopefully that will help Mindy lose weight. She is at 12.56 and should only weigh about 9 o 9 1/2 at the most. I'm even thinking of making my own cat food, but I need to do some further research. The dry food is convenient but it's mostly carbs and is really nothing more than glorified "cereal" and that's what makes them gain weight. Cats need protein, and they can't really metabolize fat very well. I just wish there were healthier options that aren't quite so expensive.

Mindy loves the canned food and so far she is eating normally and she seems alert and otherwise healthy. I read last night that vomiting blood could also be a sign of a tumor or cancer. I don't even want to think about that possibility. I can't imagine losing Mindy anytime soon. She is not even 2 years old and I want her to have a long and happy life. Shelley was very concerned when I took Mindy to the vet and she greeted her little "sister" with lots of loving when I brought her back.

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how your precious Mindy and you are doing. I can soooo understand how very upset you were on Tuesday, and how concerned you are still. It sounds like your vet is doing his very best to give your precious Mindy a healthy recovery, and hope and pray the new food will help her toward this goal. I know when our precious companions are not well "doing our best" seems really not good enough. Still, our precious companions understand that we love them and will do everything our human and humane power to give them a long, happy, and healthy earthly journey. And your precious Mindy is so very blessed to have you for her Forever Mom.

I hope today is treating you and your precious Mindy, and Shelley, kindly, my friend, and that you and your precious girls will have a very peaceful, blissful, and cozy evening. I am still so worried about Mindy. I just have this nagging worry and it's bothering me so much that I'm having stomach pains and haven't been able to eat much. I was there and SAW how much blood she had vomited. And there was no mistaking it for something else because of the tell-tale iron odor and the color and everything else. It's easy for everyone else to tell me it's no big deal, but I'm sorry it IS a big deal when a cat is vomiting blood. Who know what could be going on inside her body? I just have this nagging fear of losing her and I know I could not go through that again so soon after losing Tina and Danny. Mindy is Shelley's best friend. What would Shelley do without her? A cat just doesn't vomit blood for no reason. I have been watching Mindy and she has been eating normally and is active and just her normal self, but still I worry about her. I don't want to lose this sweet little cat. She is not even 2 years old yet. I keep holding my breath so to speak and waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Hello DannysMom

I'm sorry to hear about Mindy (so close to your scare with Shelley) I don't think anyone here would say it's no big deal. Of course it's a big deal when our fur kids are having trouble. The vet does not sound like he's sure. Is there going to be a follow up visit? Is it possible she may have gotten into something. I hope she is feeling better and we will keep you all in our prayers. Let us know how both your girls are doing.

Tom's Dad, thanks for checking on Mindy. I just feel so all alone in this. It seems like nobody really shares the horror I felt when I saw how much blood she had vomited. The vet wasn't sure, you're right about that. He suggested doing some blood work if Mindy doesn't improve. She hasn't needed a follow-up visit as she seems to be her normal self. Yesterday she was so active and playful and she's eating and drinking normally. I too thought that she may have gotten into something, a bug or maybe some flower petals on the balcony that had fallen off. I am always so careful not to leave anything harmful out, and I don't have plants in the house and I don't leave out Tylenol or any other toxic thing. My household cleaners are non-toxic and I just try to take good care of my girls. Mindy's episode really rattled me. It made me feel like "Oh no, am I going to lose another cat so soon?" I get so concerned any time something is wrong with my girls. I don't want to miss any signs. I simply could not imagine losing one of them anytime soon. Losing a beloved fur kid is THE worst kind of pain.

Yesterday Mindy was snuggled up against Shelley's back and Shelley stretched her front legs and made little "baby" sounds. She was so happy to have her "sister" with her.

Posted by: Tom's Dad May 26 2013, 06:17 PM

Hello DannysMom

You should know by now, you are never alone here. I'm glad to hear Mindy has shown such positive signs of improvement. That being the case, I'm inclined to think she may indeed have gotten into something. Blood work and x-rays may not be such a bad idea to make sure she didn't suffer internal damage. But, from what you say, she seems better and would probably be showing more signs of distress if that were the case.

I can certainly understand fear of losing her so close to Danny and Tina. That's bound to be at the forefront of your mind all things considered. But, you are a good cat mom, and I think she will enjoy many happy years with you and her sister Shelley. Great picture, BTW. Take care.

Hi DannysMom

I am so sorry to hear that Mindy has not been well. By the sounds of it it might have just been a little hiccup along her healthy journey but I understand your worry. When Fudge suddenly threw up, had diarrhea and started shaking last year one night I was absolutely terrified! All I could think about was not another one of my boys. I almost went into a very early labour! He laid in his basket at the end of my bed all night and I was ready to rush him to the vets in the morning and then suddenly the next day he was back to his playful self......and has been fine ever since.

It is so hard with cats as they cannot tell us how they are feeling. I bet the biggest thing with your Mindy is the fact that there was blood which would scare anyone. Pixie throws up quite a few times a week because her stomach cannot always handle the amount she eats but then there is no blood so and I have had her checked out so I am not worried.

I am sure and have hope that she is fine but you are doing everything you can and cannot do anymore so do not beat yourself up to much about it as she is getting the best care she can get from you. You do whatever you think necessary for her but please do not stop eating etc as she needs you to be as healthy as possible.

I just wanted to share with you this picture of Pixie as I saw the one of Mindy in her nice new bed and I just think she looks like Pixie so much. In the picture her eyes are dilated but normally they are the same colour as Mindy's.

How is she doing today DannysMom? I send my love.

xxForeverxx

Tom's Dad, thanks for your comforting words. Sometimes it's just a bit hard when there's no "live" person to give you a hug or words of comfort. Mindy did have x-rays, and all the vet saw was some thickening of her small intestines which could point to IBS or pancreatitis. She is doing much better and hasn't thrown up again and for that I'm very thankful. I sure hope she'll be with me for many years to come.

xxForeverxx, thanks so much for sharing that picture of Pixie! smile.gif She does look a lot like Mindy and how clever of her to sit where the food is! She looks like she's a sly one and perhaps a bit more feisty than Fudge. She is really cute! I am doing better too. It turned out that I had a nasty bout with gastro-enteritis and may have had some food poisoning. Mindy sure makes me smile. A few days ago she was sitting in the window with Shelley and Shelley sat in front of her, blocking Mindy's view. Mindy gave Shelley a swat on the head with her mighty little paw, but Shelley was unperturbed and kept looking out the window.

This morning I woke up to a very precious sight. Mindy and Shelley were on the bed, nose to nose, and Mindy was giving Shelley a good bath. This went on for a couple minutes and then turned into a little play fight. It just always amazes me how they get along so well. It's like they were meant to be together.

Posted by: DannysMom Jun 8 2013, 03:00 PM

I made an extra effort this week to give Mindy more attention. I sensed that she felt a bit neglected and that she felt Shelley was getting more attention. For a few days Mindy was hardly "talking", not even a screech, but now she is talking again. Last weekend she and Shelley had a little play fight going on while lying down on the floor face to face. Mindy put up one of her paws, then Shelley put up a paw and this went back and forth with them just raising their paws and trying to dodge each other. I wished I had taken a video! Last night she nipped me a bit too hard when I was feeling her ribs. I thought I had felt a little lump on her side, but it was only her ribs. I touched her real gently, but apparently it was a bit of a sore spot and so she gave me a quick nip on my hand. I told her it was okay and that I needed to examine her every once in a while. She is always so patient at the vet when they examine her. I hope she'll start losing the extra weight soon. Mindy is much more overweight than Shelley, but she can still run up and down the stairs very quickly!

Posted by: DannysMom Jun 16 2013, 02:32 PM

Miss Mindy has been a very frisky kitty this past week. Late Friday evening she got into a game of chase with "sister" Shelley which also involved Mindy wrestling Shelley to the ground. I heard a frantic shriek, but shortly after that they were both off running again. Cats! smile.gif
Today I placed Mindy on top of the couch next to Shelley. I thought they might enjoy a nap together. At first everything looked okay. They were sniffing each other's noses, but then Mindy sniffed on Shelley's paw and Shelley took a swat at Mindy, but stopped in mid-air, sort of like a "warning shot". Mindy, quick as lightning, lunged forward and wrapped both front paws around Shelley's neck and had her in a stranglehold. Very expertly done! But Shelley broke free and jumped off the couch. She wanted none of this crazy business! Mindy, now having the couch to herself, settled down quite happily and I thought I saw a little smile on her face!

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you and your precious Mindy and Shelley are doing. Yes - - I can just see your precious Mindy smiling at her victory of winning the domain of the couch. Have seen that a few times especially during challenges between my precious Noah and his beloved beautiful baby sister Abbygayle. Anyone who tries to tell me that our precious companions can't smile or cry - - have never taken the time to really look at their companions faces.

I hope today is treating you and your precious Mindy and Shelley kindly, and that you and your precious girls will have a very peaceful evening blessed with your beloved Tina's and Danny's sweet Living Spirits to comfort you. Thank you for the blessing of your friendship, DannysMom, and of your precious girls. moon_beam, thanks for stopping by. Yes, my Mindy tries to be the dominant cat, I guess because she was here first. Last night I played a bit with her and then Shelley jumped in and went after the fleece strips. Mindy sat on the stairs watching, but I could tell from the look in her eyes that she wasn't happy. So after a few minutes she chased after Shelley and wrestled her to the ground which elicited a shriek from Shelley. Mindy had that satisfied look on her face as if to say:"How dare you play with MY toy! Mine, mine, mine!!!"

This morning my girls were sitting in the window together, but the peace didn't last long. Mindy gave Shelley a swat on the neck which seemed to mean "You're blocking my view!", but Shelley was unperturbed. So Mindy gave her another swat with the paw, and still Shelley didn't flinch. They are so funny to watch smile.gif Mindy reminds me a bit of Tina sometimes. She has this quiet strength and tenacity and she likes to give play bites.

Here is Mindy relaxing in a paper bag. Isn't she cute?

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you and your precious Mindy, and Shelley, are doing - - and for the wonderful picture of your precious Mindy thoroughly enjoying the paper bag. She looks very contented indeed.

Sorry that the nail trimming did not go very smoothly this time around. The good news is that there is a "next time" - - and each time is a unique experience.

Nothing much going on here today - - just enjoying the peaceful calm and my precious Noah's sweet precious company. Still have the lunch dishes to do.

I hope today is treating you and your precious Mindy and Shelley kindly, and that you and your precious girls will have a very peaceful, blissful, and cozy evening blessed with your beloved Danny's and Tina's sweet Living Spirits to comfort you. moon_beam, thanks for stopping by and sharing my Mindy with me. She is as cute as a button! Miss Mindy is happy to have me home this week. Right now she is happily snoozing on top of the couch by the window. Earlier she saw a big bug on the outside of the window and she got soooo excited about it, wagging her tail and chattering. She furiously tapped the window with her paw, trying to catch the bug. And then, it flew away. Oh, my Mindy was so frustrated! So I sat next to her and stroked her soft fur and talked to her to console her over the bug that got away. She so enjoyed getting all this loving and attention! smile.gif Mindy loves being petted. Despite her reputation as the tough, calm one in the family she is very much a "softie".

Posted by: moon_beam Jul 3 2013, 03:04 PM

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing your precious Mindy with us. Ah yes - - the "bug that got away". I can soooo relate to your precious Mindy's frustration - - she sounds like my beloved number one kitty son Eli when it comes to the "bug patrol." Unlike your precious Mindy, my beloved Eli did not appreciate being "consoled" - - he wanted another bug!! Your precious Mindy is so very fortunate to have you for her Forever Mom, as is your precious Shelley.

I hope today is treating you and your precious Mindy and Shelley kindly, and that you and your precious girls will have a very peaceful, blissful, and cozy evening blessed with your beloved Danny's and Tina's sweet Living Spirits to comfort you. Moon_beam, thanks for sharing the story of your sweet kitty boy Eli with me. I'm sure you and Noah miss him lots when you think of him and remember the things he used to do. Miss Mindy made me laugh again this morning when she battled the big, bad, pink hugger toy. I can't help laughing when she's on her back, frantically moving all four paws and trying to grab the hugger. Sometimes she comes at me on walking on her hind legs, with her front paws stretched out ninja-style, and it just cracks me up! laugh.gif I always get a little scared too when she comes at me like this! But she just wants to play. Yesterday I sat on the couch with her as she was taking one of her marathon naps. I supported her little body with one hand while she nestled her head in my other hand. Soooo sweet! Despite her tough reputation she enjoys being loved.

It appears that Shelley has graduated from professor Mindy's "The art of bug watch 101" course. Last night I saw Shelley downstairs all by herself, while Mindy was off doing something else, not even supervising Shelley.

Mindy hissed at the big, bad coat closet door yesterday. She thought something was behind there, so she hissed at it and kept pawing at the door. It had me scared, so I didn't even attempt to open it. Mindy does the strangest things. She even hissed at the mop once, and it was just sitting there.

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how your precious Mindy, and Shelley are doing. I am so chuckling at your precious Mindy hissing at the closet door and the mop. Something was obviously distressing her. She is so fortunate to have you for her Forever Mom to held calm and soothe her.

Moon_beam, I don't think Mindy was distressed. She seemed calm enough, but she hissed because she sensed an intruder. This morning I found out what the "intruder" was. Mindy had pulled a plastic bag half out from under the door and it was filled with a tinsel Christmas garland. I store all the Christmas stuff in that closet. Mindy must have been so determined to get at the fiendish garland! laugh.gif Right now she is relaxing by the window and all is well.

Hi, DannysMom, thank you for sharing with us the "mystery of the closet goblin." Perry Mason couldn't have done any better sleuthing out the culprit of your precious Mindy's angst: a Christmas garland!!! I'm so glad to know she is once again at peace now that you, her Forever Mom, have laid her frustrations to rest.

I hope today is treating you and your precious Mindy and Shelley kindly, and that you and your precious girls will have a very peaceful, blissful, and cozy evening blessed with your beloved Danny's and Tina's sweet Living Spirits to comfort you. I thank you for the blessing of your friendship, and of your precious girls. Please know you and your precious Mindy and Shelley are in my thoughts and prayers, and that I look forward to knowing how you and your precious girls are doing.

moon_beam, thanks for stopping by and sharing my Mindy with me. I was nicely surprised to find both Mindy and Shelley snuggled against me when I woke up this morning. They even let me sleep in without waking me up for food first. How sweet! It's been a long week and I needed the extra sleep. Mindy and Shelley were lying across my legs face to face and Mindy was washing Shelley's head. Shelley then started a little paw play-fight. A few nights ago Shelley was feeling very frisky and crouched down to stalk Mindy, but Mindy pre-empted her by pouncing on her and wrestling to the ground which elicited a few shrieks from Shelley. Miss Shelley tried to escape by was wrestled down again expertly by Mindy and then they galloped into the other room with Mindy in hot pursuit of Shelley. These two kitty girls are so much fun! smile.gif

Hi DannysMom

Haha I love that photo of Mindy in the bag! Does she like getting in cardboard boxes etc? She looks very comfortable in there.

It sounds like since I was last on here that Mindy and Shelley once again have taken another massive step in their relationship and become even closer! How sweet that they sleep on the bed together happily all night. I am impressed they gave you a lay in without asking for food. Mine never do that. They are very well behaved happy.gif

Your days at home must be filled with constant laughter watching these two littlens playing away together. I mean I would just watch them all day! Mine tend to sleep a lot so do not see them that much. They are all lazy lol But Mindy and Shelley sound like they are always on a new adventure!

What is Mindys latest antics?

Happy Birthday, Miss Mindy! My little tux girl is 2 years old today. Somehow she doesn't seem to care much about all the fuss, but she is looking very fine in her tuxedo! smile.gif

xxForeverxx, thanks for stopping by. Yes, Mindy gets into cardboard boxes as well. Shelley and Mindy are definitely best friends even if Mindy plays a bit rough sometimes. But they enjoy each others company. Mine sleep a lot too, but they are active early in the morning and late at night. Mindy is so fascinated by the dragonflies, butterflies and birds. Anything that flies by outside gets her attention. And she is so loving! Mindy enjoys being petted and getting lots of attention. I thought about taking her outside for a walk, but I don't know if she would walk on a leash.

Hello DannysMom.

Happy Birthday Miss Mindy smile.gif What a great picture. As if to say "Oh is this my photo op?" Too cute. As for the outside walks, you might want to try a harness rather than a collar leash. My experience is they do better and you have better control. They get used to it after while. I'm glad I live on the 2nd floor and have the balcony for that. I hope you are all well today.

Saw my girls happily side by side and just had to snap a few pictures. I am so glad that they are such good friends. This morning they woke me up by jumping on the bed and chasing each other from the bedroom into the other rooms. That seems to be their favorite game early in the morning, and it makes me smile. Shelley always enjoys a cuddle in my arms, but when "sister" Mindy meows for her attention she will leap out of my arms and join her little kitty sister. Right now they are both enjoying some balcony time as it's in the 70s out there and really nice. Mindy always seems to stay out longer than Shelley.

Hello DannysMom

Great picture wub.gif I'm glad Miss Mindy is feeling better and she and Shelley are back to playing and getting along. I let my kids have balcony time last night for the same reason. I was even able to shut off the AC and just let the fans do the work. Tang always comes in first to be close to dad, while I practically have to drag Theresa in happy.gif Hope you all have a great day!

moon_beam, yes I am VERY much relieved that Mindy is doing better. It had me so rattled when she was sick and hid all the time. She is such a precious little cat, so beautiful and sweet, and she has this quiet determination. This morning my poor Mindy got stressed out by a big moving truck that was parked here. New people are moving in across the street. She did not feel comfortable looking out the window, and I could tell she was bothered by the truck. I sometimes wonder if she got left behind when her previous humans moved or something like that. So I had a re-assuring talk with her and told her that we're not moving, and that even if we were I would NEVER, EVER leave her or Shelley behind. A little while later she was sitting in the window again, watching all the moving of the furniture.

Mindy and I had some more balcony time this afternoon, but I had to get back inside after it became more windy and I got chilled sitting there with m shorts and tank top. Mindy almost caught a wasp that visited, but thankfully it flew away before she could catch it! I know how painful those stings can be. My little orange tabby cat Twinkie once got stung on the chin and it swelled up pretty good. Mindy got so excited by all the butterflies, birds, and dragonflies out there, and she was frustrated that she couldn't catch any of them, so I let her "catch" the big pink hugger toy once we were back inside.

Posted by: DannysMom Aug 26 2013, 05:28 PM

Yesterday Mindy and I had a wonderful time out on the balcony once I bundled up with a cardigan. She explored a bit, and then jumped on my lap and tried to grab my hand for some fun. I read a book while she surveyed things from her comfortable and warm position. smile.gif It was so nice having her with me. Mindy is the kind of cat who stays in place for a while once she's found a good spot. A neighbor on a balcony across from me wasn't having such luck. Her little tabby cat wanted out, then in, out, then in. That's why I like my Miss Mindy! smile.gif

I don't know why I call her "Miss" Mindy at times, but sometimes when I look at her I get the impression of a school head-mistress impatiently tapping her foot while surveying the mis-behaving kids and then I get that old Pink Floyd song into my head...."if you don't eat your meat, you can't have any pudding!" Mindy just has this air of superiority it seems. But she is the sweetest cat, very loving in her own quiet way. When I last had her at the vet and as we were leaving the receptionist handed me the carrier and said:"Here is Princess Mindy." She gets so jealous when I play with her and then Shelley comes along and I let Shelley play with the toy. Then Mindy's eyes get all big and she just stares at Shelley as if to say:"How dare you!" And then she chases Shelley away. Cats! laugh.gif

Hello DanmnysMom

So glad to hear you and Miss Mindy had some quality time on the balcony yesterday that the weather this time of year rarely permits. I guess I need top dig out my lawn chair and follow suit with Theresa and Tang. I miss doing that with Tom. Like Mindy, he would pick out a spot and just stay. Theresa is a bit more figity. And well you already KNOW about the Amazing Flying Tang (although he seems to have backed off that a bit)

Hoping you, Miss Mindy and Shelley are well.

PS: I call Theresa Miss for similar reasons. Especially when she is tattling on her little brother happy.gif

Tom's Dad and moon_beam, thanks for sharing my Mindy with me. She is such a little sweetheart. I still remember how tiny she was when I first met her. She was 5 months old at that time, but looked more like a 3 month old kitty. I guess she must have been the runt of the litter. Tom's Dad, I wish I could have seen the Amazing Flying Tang! laugh.gif He sounds like quite a character. It's nice that Theresa stays out with you like Mindy does with me. Years ago when I was married we had tabby cat, and while he was really sweet he has this quirk that when he sat on my lap and I moved ever so slightly he would jump off my lap. I had to sit absolutely still so he would stay on my lap.

I am almost giddy with excitement today...looking so forward to enjoying a long weekend! And I've did my laundry and cleaning during the week so that nothing will come between me and relaxation! Ahhh! I shook my head when I stopped by Kroger and saw they had real pumpkins out there this time, $6.99 a piece. They won't last long in this hot weather, that's for sure. It's not even Labor Day yet, so who's going to be putting a pumpkin on their front porch???

When I came home Shelley greeted me excitedly and laid down in front of Mindy as if to say:"Groom me, PLEEEEAAAAASE!!!" Mindy happily obliged, grooming Shelley's ears and her head. I could see a smile on Shelley's face. She so enjoys being loved.

Posted by: DannysMom Aug 31 2013, 02:51 PM

There really is something to it...I read an article recommending to trim a cat's nails when they're lying on their back. I needed to get Mindy's nails trimmed on her hind legs, and just a few minutes ago she was on her back, looking so relaxed. I decided this was the perfect moment. To my delight she offered little resistance other than kicking me with her hind legs a few times. She seemed to understand it needed to get done, and it really did. Her claws had grown so long, and she has an extra dewclaw on each hind leg. One of the dewclaws was getting awfully long and thick, so I'm glad I caught that before it would have dug into her paw pad. I praised her after the procedure and told her what a good girl she is. She just looked at me as if to say:"yes, I know!" wink.gif

While I trimmed Mindy's nails Shelley took off, fearing she would be next, so I had to re-assure her.

Posted by: DannysMom Sep 7 2013, 02:13 PM

Miss Mindy was feeling rather frisky today, trying to grab Shelley's swishing tail while she laid down on the window perch and Shelley was sitting in the window. Shelley didn't think it was funny and let out a few annoyed growls, but Mindy persisted! It was just too tempting for her! laugh.gif
Mindy and I had a wonderful time on the balcony today. She sat on my lap while I quietly read a book. It felt so good having her warm little body on my lap as it was getting a bit chilly out there. Mindy is always so happy on Saturdays as she enjoys having me home. Today is an absolute gorgeous day, beautiful blue sky with just a few clouds. Got to enjoy these last few summer days as fall will be here soon.

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you and your precious Mindy and Shelley are doing. I know how much your enjoy being home with your precious girls on the weekends, as the evenings during the work week seem to go by so quickly - - after you get all the chores done it's time to go to bed, and you can feel sometimes like your precious are not getting the dedicated attention you want them to have. But I assure you that your precious girls understand what is part of their routine and would not change it for anything in the world - - they know they are blessed to have you for their Forever Mom.

It is hard to believe that next weekend September will be half way through, and autumn will be beckoning at the door. The leaves from some of the trees here have already begun to shed - - I hope this is not Nature's harbinger of a harsh winter.

I hope today is treating you and your precious girls kindly, DannysMom, and that you and your precious Mindy and Shelley will have a very peaceful, blissful, and cozy evening. Dear moon_beam, thanks for stopping by and sharing my sweet Mindy with me. I felt so bad leaving them alone for a few hours on Sunday. Mindy and Shelley both greeted me with quiet little faces that seemed to say:"Mom, where have you been so long?" I hope they do understand. I just often times feel so guilty when I get into things and then the evening is over before I know it.

I'm happy to report that Mindy has been very active lately. She has so much fun attacking a paper bag when I place a little toy mouse inside. She will pounce on the bag and tear at it and eventually get the little mouse out. Then I place it back inside and the game starts over! smile.gif This morning she went crazy pouncing on the bag and Shelley was watching and wondering. I'm glad to see Mindy so active. She really seems to be thriving on the "Paw Lickin Chicken" food which is very low in carbs.

Here is a picture of my sweet Mindy enjoying her favorite activity from her little perch.

Score 1 for Miss Mindy, the world's finest bug hunter! Last night as I was watching TV a huge flying roach kinda thing flew around here and scared me half to death. I quickly grabbed the fly swatter and swatted the thing, but it landed on the floor and just crawled behind one of my bookcases. I quietly hoped that the girls would catch it overnight, but today I had the distinct feeling that this huge bug was still around. Sure enough, I was right! Around 9 p.m. I heard some bug like sound and saw Mindy stalking something which turned out to be the bug! I grabbed the fly swatter again and told Mindy to not let the bug get away and to trap it. Mindy was fantastic! She had the bug cornered and then when it tried to escape I quickly brought down the fly swatter and that was the end of the huge flying roach or whatever it was. It was truly big, at least 2 inches, and I shuddered as I flushed it down the toilet. I told Mindy what a wonderful job she did, not just once, but five times. This little cat is amazing. And I can sleep better tonight! happy.gif

Hi DannysMom

It is so funny you should mention Mindy saving you from the bug as the other night I was laying on the sofa and Pixie jumped behind me and I heard mouth bite something and she jumped on the floor and I noticed she had caught a daddy long leg (is that what they are called over there!? rolleyes.gif) and I am terrified of them so she had saved my life! and by the sounds of it Mindy had saved yours!

That is a lovely photo of heron her perch. I always think she looks like she is doing a cat photoshoot as she looks so perfect in all of them.

I am glad to hear she is getting better and enjoying her low carb food more. Its awful when they do not want what you give them. My three are constantly going off their food and I have to change types.

I hope they are both doing well today.

xxForeverxx

Posted by: DannysMom Sep 28 2013, 12:43 PM

moon_beam and xxForeverxx, thanks for stopping by and sharing my Mindy with me. xxForeverxx, yes, they are also called daddy long legs over here! And I'm scared of them too. They're actually pretty harmless, but I'm not much for creeping, crawling things. Your Pixie is such a good kitty! I'm sorry you have to switch food all the time. I know it can be frustrating. You could always try giving them canned food in the morning and dry food at night, for some variety.

About the English words...I still remember some of the differences, how "fall" is called "autumn" and "trunk" is the "boot" and things like that. From reading about little Prince George I learned that "diapers" are called "nappies" over in the UK.

Well, I finally broke down and bought my girls a nice, new 2-story cat "cave" to replace the old, worn out perch by the window that Mindy sits on. It was really worn out and I wanted something with a wider platform on top so that Mindy and Shelley could sit together. Mindy sure likes the wider seat, and Shelley has been exploring the two "caves". She looked so cute with her face peeking out from the bottom cave. They can get to the upper cave from the inside as the upper one only has a half shelf. And then there's a sisal scratching post to the right. The whole thing is really sturdy and well made, and it even is Made in the USA. Good luck finding that these days! I'll have to get a picture of the girls with the new "perch".

Mindy was making such cute little sounds last night. One of them was "Mooray" and it sounded like "Hooray!". Sooo cute! She makes these little baby sounds, and I wish I knew what they mean. I think she is just happy and wants to express it.

Posted by: DannysMom Sep 29 2013, 09:37 AM

Here are my girls, during a bird-watching session, on top of the new cat cave. I so enjoy seeing them together like this. Getting this cat cave was well worth it, and the old perch was in a sad state, all torn up and worn out. It is cool and windy here today, only in the low 70s. Mindy was very vocal this morning as usual on a Sunday. She always let me know how glad she is when I'm home on the weekends. I can hardly believe that this coming January Mindy and I will be together for 2 years! Time sure flies by. I still remember when I first saw her, how the lady at the SPCA held her up and I the first thing I noticed were those amber eyes. Now Mindy's eyes are golden-green. She always looks so beautiful with her white bib and the little white socks.

moon_beam, thanks for sharing my sweet girls with me. I just love it when they sit together like this! smile.gif Yesterday evening I hoisted Mindy onto my lap for some cuddle time. She started suckling on my sweater and kneading my chest with her front paws. I've read that kitties do that when they've been separated from their moms too early. After she had her fill she looked so satisfied! smile.gif And she stayed on my lap for a while, but got annoyed at one of her hind paws slipping off to the side and then left.

I think she must have caught the cricket that was in here as I've not heard it since. Later in the evening yesterday I got down on the floor next to Mindy and just looked at her sweet face and started petting her. She has the softest and silkiest fur. I so enjoy looking at her sweet little face.

moon_beam and Tom's Dad, thanks for stopping by and sharing my sweet Mindy with me. She is simply adorable, and I love her so much. smile.gif moon_beam, I had to chuckle at your suggestions of treadmills and hydrotherapy. I've seen a video of a horribly overweight kitty exercising on a treadmill in water, but the little guy sure didn't look too happy having water up to his tummy! I don't think Mindy would take too kindly to me putting her on one of those thingsmajicks! "Me, on THAT? You're kidding, right?" is what she would say if she could talk. I'm sure she plays chase with Shelley when I'm out, and I don't leave any food out when I go to work, other than the small amount of kibble for Shelley because she leaves most of the canned food to Mindy. Cats are hunters, not grazers, so I have read, and once they stuff their tummy they sleep and fast until they eat again. Leaving food out for them to graze on is not good.

Mindy looks like she has lost some weight, but I could be wrong. I guess I will find out in December when she needs her rabies shot. She jumps up on the new perch without any problems and she runs up the stairs sometimes for fun and chases Shelley.

moon_beam, thanks for stopping by. I was shaking my head at my crazy girls Thursday evening. It was so quiet and the girls nowhere to be seen. So I looked and finally found them huddled together around the toy baskets, with Shelley pawing at an invisible bug. I tried so hard to find out what they were stalking, but could not see anything. But apparently they did and moved along with the invisible bug to the living room where Shelley kept pawing at it again and Mindy just watched. I laughed and shook my head. Cats! laugh.gif

For some reason Mindy got spooked about something last night and hid under the bed for a while. It really had me worried, but before long she came back out and acted like nothing had happened. Very strange. I was getting stressed and thought "Oh no, here we go again!" This morning she made her usual racket to get me out of bed, play with the lampshade, play with the cables, annoy Mom big time! So I got up and fed my girls and tried to snooze for a bit, but soon Mindy came galloping into the bedroom and jumped on the bed to escape from Shelley. So I got up and had breakfast. It's a nice fall day today, calm and nice temps, just cloudy. But the air smells so fresh and clean and I may just go for a walk around the neighborhood.

Posted by: DannysMom Oct 27 2013, 09:38 AM

My sweet Mindy has gotten into the habit of climbing on my lap for some snuggle time after I finish my dinner. She sneaks up on me so quietly and without much fuss just sits down in my lap. When I pet her she rubs her head against my arm and she looks so happy and content. This morning Mindy and Shelley were galloping about the place, playing chase. They were having so much fun and now Mindy is resting. She has been very vocal yesterday and today, as always on the weekends. I know she is happy to have me home with her.

Tom's Dad, thanks for stopping by! smile.gif I bet Tang and Theresa are having as much fun playing "chase" as my Mindy and Shelley. It just always makes me laugh when they gallop around and try to catch one another. When I got home from the pet cemetery I opened the window for my girls as it is real nice outside and in the low 60s. I just had to get a photo of my girls sitting in the window together. Shelley was in her usual spot in the corner and Mindy was busy grooming herself. Keeping her shiny, silky coat looking good is hard work! smile.gif She really does have a wonderfully soft and silky coat, almost like rabbit's fur.

Hi DannysMom

It is so good to hear that Mindy is doing loads better. She certainly looks happy laying there cleaning herself in the sun by the window.

Wasn't it Mindy who tended to stay away from the lap to start with? and now it looks like she is really starting to enjoy her time on your lap rolleyes.gif Very relaxed now I would say and at home. It is nice to hear how she licks Shelly too as that is showing her caring side.

What is miss Mindy up to today?

xxForeverxx

Posted by: DannysMom Nov 9 2013, 12:10 PM

Hello xxForeverxx, yes, I am glad too that Mindy is doing so much better. She just LOVES that "Paw Lickin' Chicken" cat food by Weruva. Shelley eat it too, but she still likes dry food better, which is why she has gained weight! ohmy.gif

You are right, Mindy was the one who only occasionally climbed on my lap, but lately she has been doing it pretty much daily. I was up late last night, just relaxing, and watching an old movie, and Mindy hopped in my lap and started purring so loud. She is so content to sit with me and I really enjoy it. She just does things in her own quiet way. This morning she was very vocal again as is her habit on a Saturday. I think she is just so happy to have me home. I threw one of her little toy mice in her play paper bag and she went right in after it and retrieved the mouse. With cats the cheapest toys seem to be the best. A plain old paper bag will do just fine! smile.gif I used to let Mindy play with the plastic rings from milk bottles, but she would chew up the plastic so bad and so I had to take them away from her. Mindy is a "chewer". To my dismay she has chewed on quite a few of my books. And she will probably try to chew again on my fake Christmas tree.

Posted by: DannysMom Nov 16 2013, 11:45 AM

Miss Mindy is giving me cause for concern. Yesterday and today she has been very restless, running around and attacking her tail. She gets so annoyed when her tail starts to twitch. Last night she had settled down on my lap and then her tail started twitching. She got so annoyed that she jumped off my lap. Mindy hid under the bed for a while, but not for long. She was so restless and constantly running about. For a while she was playing chase with Shelley. Her restlessness really concerns me. I may just have to order some calming medicine for her that I saw online. Mindy was more calm earlier in the week. She slept on my lap and it was so sweet how she placed her paw on my arm.

Posted by: Tom's Dad Nov 16 2013, 06:00 PM

Hi DannysMom.

Sorry to hear about Mindy's restlessness. If it helps, Tang has been doing that (chasing around the apartment) each evening as I prepare for my shower, and sometimes early in the morning. He always calms down though. Maybe they know something we don't? Hope you and your girls are well. TTFN

Tom's Dad, I think Mindy's restlessness is different. Her twitching tail really seems to bother her and she can't lie still and just gets up and runs around. She has calmed down some, but it still does bother her from time to time. I just have to keep an eye on it and maybe ask the vet next time I take her. Mindy did so well today when I trimmed her nails. I was extra careful this time with her two "thumbs" and she held fairly still. It's just a bit difficult for one person to do this. I tried to take some pictures of her earlier, but she would turn her head every time, so that was a bit frustrating. But I got one good picture of Mindy in her white "bib". She just looks so cute with her white bib and white socks. Now she is resting and just taking it easy.

Posted by: DannysMom Nov 24 2013, 05:17 PM

Miss Mindy snuck quietly inside the little condo today. This is the first time I have seen her do that. She didn't stay long, but long enough for me to get a good picture of her. Isn't she cute? smile.gif

Posted by: Tom's Dad Nov 24 2013, 06:25 PM

Yup. Adorable smile.gif

Posted by: DannysMom Dec 14 2013, 02:02 PM

From Mindy's diary: What is this?! Why did mommie put this silly looking hat on my head? Help! I look so ridiculous! My mommie says that I look so cute and that I won't have to wear this silly thing again, just so she could get one picture of me. And now she is posting it on the Internet! I am soooo embarassed! And I think I heard Shelley quietly snickering.

Posted by: DannysMom Dec 21 2013, 12:16 PM

Mindy developed two big, red, raised bumps on her head again. Sigh! This time on the left side. I've been putting ointment on her and it does help. The bumps have shrunk down, but they are still red and crusty.
It was so cute when she tried to open the cabinet door with her paw this morning. I stood there and smiled and watched in fascination. It's as if Danny was back for a moment. She has never done this before. And then she hissed at the cabinet several time and attacked it. I told her there were no ghosts in there and opened it up, but she didn't believe me and hissed at it again after I had closed it. Mindy is quite happy to have me home again this weekend. She always get so vocal and seems so happy on Saturdays. When I left for work yesterday she gave me a long sad look and I felt so guilty for "abandoning" her. She is a very sweet kitty and she makes the cutest sounds with her little baby voice.

Posted by: Tom's Dad Dec 21 2013, 12:36 PM

Hi DannysMom.

Sorry to hear about the bumps on Mindy's head coming back. Sounds like some kind of allergy. I'm glad the ointment helps. And the hat is just too cute happy.gif

Posted by: xxForeverxx Dec 21 2013, 01:41 PM

Hi DannysMom

Haha she lookslike she does not want to move and is in shock having that hat on! laugh.gif Very festive though.

I am sorry to hear she has developed a couple more lumps. Do you reckon its her dermatitis?

When I saw Mindy was opening the cabinet door I immediately thought of your Danny. I remember when you first told me about this and then my Ellie started doing it and now every time Ellie does it I also think of Danny. What a clever girl.

xxForeverxx

Posted by: DannysMom Dec 26 2013, 12:37 PM

Tom's Dad, and xxForeverxx, thanks for stopping by. xxForeverxx, you are right about Mindy being in shock. That little hat had a rubber band that went under the chin and it was a bit tight so that is why she has that strange look on her face that says:"I can't move!" I took it off right away though and she is fine. I think her lumps are dermatitis, some kind of allergy, but they have healed up almost completely. They sure did look nasty though, all red and crusty looking. I have not seen anything like this before on a cat.

How sweet of Ellie to open the cabinet doors! smile.gif That must be the mother in her trying to provider for Fudge and Pixie. It's funny, but Mindy hasn't tried to open the cabinet doors since. She did it just that one day, December 21. Today though she is imitating Danny in another way. She has started to shred the wrapping paper that I left for her. And she has been sitting on it as well. Isn't she cute?

I took Miss Mindy to the vet today for her rabies shot, and she did so good. She even lost a bit of weight, down to 12.63 from 12.99. Well, "only" about 3 more pounds to go, sigh! But I am so glad she hasn't gained any more weight. She seems to do real well on the Weruva Paw Lickin' Chicken canned food. Today of course it's been two years since Danny died, and I dreaded going to the vet on this day of all things. Mindy meowed a bit on the way there, and so I re-assured her that it was just a routine visit. On the way back she just laid her head down and looked at me with those big golden eyes. She is a sweetie! smile.gif Shelley greeted her little sister real nice and sniffed on her for the strange smells.

Posted by: Tom's Dad Dec 28 2013, 01:09 PM

Hi DannysMom.

So glad to hear Miss Mindy got a good "report card" at the vet. That's wonderful smile.gif Shelley greeting her at the door was sweet too. Hope you all are doing well.

Tom's Dad, thanks for stopping by. We are doing well except for Miss Mindy. She threw up this morning and didn't eat much yesterday. I think it must be hairball problems or perhaps a reaction to the rabies vaccine. Mindy is a lot quieter today. She has been napping all day which is easy to do on a gray, rainy day. I've snuggled with her off and on, burying my face in her soft, fluffy fur which she doesn't seem to mind.

Today is a special day for Mindy and I. It was two years ago today that I adopted her, but I had to wait for her spay surgery before I could take her home. She and her orange tabby brother had been picked up as strays, so they must have spent Christmas outdoors that year. She was about 5 months old and so tiny for her age. I am so glad I adopted her. She is such a sweet little cat. smile.gif

Posted by: Tom's Dad Dec 29 2013, 04:32 PM

Hello DannysMom.

Sorry to hear Miss Mindy is throwing up sad.gif Tang has been too and I'm hoping it's just hairballs. I'm going to try mixing the hairball control/digestion aid paste with the wet food to see if it helps. I hope she feels better soon, and that you Shelley and her get to enjoy some quality time on her anniversary with you.

TTT

Posted by: DannysMom Jan 11 2014, 12:36 PM

Tom's Dad, my Mindy is feeling better. It must have been just a hairball or something. The hairball paste is good, but you don't want to give them too much of it as that can cause diarrhea. Mindy had a big blackhead under her chin which got a bit infected so I had to use the ointment again. But it is healing up now.
Last Sunday she was so loving. Mindy hopped up on my lap and laid on her back while I rubbed her tummy. She looked up at me with those big golden eyes as if to say:"I love you mom! You are the best!" She was so comfy on my lap and enjoyed being petted. She even started suckling on my sweater again. Mindy grabbed one of my arms with both paws and just suckled on my sweater. She does that every once in a while. I read they do that when they get separated from their cat mom too early. Mindy is so happy to have me home today. She is very talkative, wants to be loved and play.

Posted by: DannysMom Jan 12 2014, 03:11 PM

For some reason Mindy wants to play rough with Shelley today. When Shelley sat down by the window Mindy jumped on there and started whacking Shelley with her paw. Shelley protested loudly, like "Hey sis, I'm just sitting here!" She soon jumped off and Mindy went right after her, jumping on her back. She didn't hiss at Shelley, so maybe she just wanted to play rough, but it sure scared Shelley and she hid. Shelley is such a sensitive and gentle cat and she doesn't understand Mindy's need to rough house with her.

Hi DannysMom.

Sounds like Miss Mindy kicked up quite a ruckus with Shelley. This happens from time to time with Theresa and Tang; and it goes both ways these days. We will probably never know why they do this. Just the mystery of being feline cool.gif

I hope you and your girls had a most pleasant day otherwise. TTFN

Tom's Dad, I think you are right about it being a mystery of being feline! wink.gif wink.gif Mindy must have been in one of her moods. The next day she was nice to Shelley and groomed her. All's well again in kittyland. Yesterday evening Mindy spied on Shelley as she was using the litterbox. Shelley also does that to Mindy. Hi DannysMom

Sounds like your Mindy is a right little rascal when it comes to winding Shelley up! Lucky Shelley is so forgiving. Sweet though as she obviously just wants to play with Shelley a lot.

How is her skin now?

xxForeverxx

Posted by: DannysMom Jan 29 2014, 07:20 PM

xxForeverxx, yes Mindy is definitely the frisky one in the family! She loves chasing after Shelley and wrestling with her. After Shelley went out on the balcony today and got some fresh air she was all wound up and played chase with Mindy. I love seeing them gallop around. Mindy's skin looks a bit better. I ordered some witch hazel that is safe to use for cats and will try to dab her chin with it once a week to keep the blackheads in check. Mindy is taking it in stride. She doesn't seem to be bothered too much by the blackheads, but her skin is still so itchy and she gets jumpy and restless.

Posted by: DannysMom Feb 15 2014, 12:34 PM

Poor Mindy developed a big, red bump right by her ear, but it is healing now since I've been putting ointment on it every night. She doesn't like the greasy ointment, but it sure does help. This morning she was in her snuggle mood and rolled on her back and rubbed her head all over my arm. She loves having me home on the weekend and always gets so affectionate with me on Saturdays. Yesterday she was getting so excited watching the seagulls in the morning who were swooping in and looking for some food in the trash that people had put out for trash day. They only go for the white trash bags where they can see what's inside. Mindy was happily chattering away at the seagulls. She loves sitting in the window and watching the birds. Last night Mindy and Shelley snuggled on top of the bed with me, real close to my body to keep warm. Early in the morning the leave and do their cat thing which is probably chasing each other.

Posted by: DannysMom Mar 15 2014, 11:43 AM

Miss Mindy is feeling VERY frisky today! She chased after the pink soccer sponge ball and had it all to herself since Shelley was resting on the couch. Mindy did so well, racing after that ball. Then, she chased Shelley around and all of a sudden I heard a distressing "eeeeeehhhaaaa" which sounded like "NO, not my tummy!" I saw Mindy and Shelley wrestling. Shelley fled into the living room and Mindy right after her and she confronted her on top of the couch.

But Mindy can also be very sweet. This morning I snuggled my face into her soft tummy fur. smile.gif As always, Mindy is very talkative on a Saturday, so happy to have me home.

Posted by: DannysMom Mar 22 2014, 01:28 PM

Mindy chased Shelley around last night, and this morning she was after her again. She has been very playful these past few days, always wanting me to play with her after dinner. I am glad she is doing so well. The fur on her tummy is growing back and so far the pustules have not reappeared on her face. A few nights ago I woke up in the middle of the night and felt a kitty settling in next to me. It was Mindy. She laid close to my upper body and snuggled her head next to my arm. How sweet! smile.gif

Hi DannysMom

It is so good to hear of a your Mindy doing really well right now. Sounds like the two are a right pair when they play together. Did Mindy play out on the balcony in the snow?

xxForeverxx

Posted by: DannysMom Mar 26 2014, 08:04 PM

xxForeverxx, thank you for your well wishes for Mindy. She and Shelley are having much fun together. I like watching them interact and groom each other and play together. Mindy did not venture out in the snow on the balcony. She was picked up as a stray with her brother, so she probably had her fill of the cold. She loves being out on the balcony when the weather is nice. Then she tends to stay out longer than Shelley.

Dannys Mom,

I just read through this string of posts...much of it put a smile on my face. What beautiful, beautiful girls you have there!! And Mindy has just the most gorgeous eyes--quite amber in color, very stunning! And Shelley has such a beautiful coat!! What a joy they are for you, I can tell how much you enjoy and love them both!

I'm just over two weeks losing Molly Rose; this last week I've had moments when I think maaaybe, for just a few minutes, that I'll be ok, I'll survive this. But then, a couple hours later, wham, the grief hits me head on and just knocks me over--waves of pain, it's agonizing. You understand that, I know. I will look forward, one day, to seeing the color in the world again, like you do. This site has been such a blessing.

So thanks for sharing the pictures and joy in your life, they made me feel good. I'm glad for you. **hugs**

Snapdragon, thanks for stopping by and reading about my "girls". Mindy and Shelley are both gentle and loving cats and I'm really blessed to have them in my life. I am so sorry you lost your sweet Molly-Rose. Two weeks is still very fresh and raw. I remember I was a total mess two weeks after losing my Danny and inconsolable two weeks after I lost my Tina. And you are right, the pain is agonizing, it is gut-wrenching. There is nothing like it, it is just plain awful and wears us out. You are welcome to stop by here anytime and read about my "girls". I am so glad that reading about them made you feel good.

Hugs to you,

Mindy is up to her old tricks again! smile.gif Just watched and laughed when I saw Mindy climb on Shelley's back and hold her in a head lock. She started biting Shelley's neck and grooming her head. Poor Shelley let out a low growl at such lack of respect for her dignity. And another low growl...yet Mindy persisted. Then an anxious protest...Mindy relaxed her grip, jumped off and sat next to Shelley, looking at her as if to say "There now, wasn't that fun?" Miss Mindy sure is a frisky one!

Posted by: DannysMom Apr 5 2014, 08:47 AM

To my surprise Mindy had jumped into the bathtub last night when I wasn't watching as I brushed my teeth to get ready for bed. I planted her on the bed and she stayed there and snuggled with me through the night. When I woke up and turned she laid down right next to my arm, snuggled her head into my hand and placed a loving paw on my arm. So very precious! smile.gif Mindy is very talkative this morning, sitting on the ledge and giving off enthusiastic meows. I think she's happy it's Saturday and that she's got me home with her.

Mindy is absolutely CRAZY over this new cat toy I got for her, the Ethical Skinneeez Forest Friends Wand Cat Toy. It's a little soft toy squirrel on a bouncy string attached to a wand. Mindy loves it! I wore her out last night. She kept meowing excitedly while playing with the toy, and she kept inviting me over and over again to play with her. She just could not get enough of it. I have to put it away at night since she tends to chew on things and she tried to take it apart last night while I wasn't watching.

Shelley was trying to get in on the game this morning, but Mindy gave her a quick swat on the head. Shelley smacked her right back, as if to say "Hey, I wants to play too!" I told them that the toy belongs to both of them and they can both play with it, so they calmed down. I have never seen Mindy so excited about a toy before. She doesn't like the noisemaker toys with rattles or ones that are too heavy. This thing is just perfect for her. I'm glad when I can make her happy! smile.gif

Mindy got a real treat on Wednesday morning. Two male cardinals went at it on the roof outside the window. They flew up and attacked each other, and Mindy was sooooo thrilled. She is an avid birdwatcher, my little tuxie. She likes to snuggle with me when she sits on her perch by the window. Mindy lays down and moves her tummy toward my face so that I can snuggle my face right into her fur. So sweet! wub.gif

She is a wonderful little cat, and I keep telling her that. Can't believe she'll be 3 already in July. Time flies by.

Sounds like Theresa and Mindy would get along! smile.gif Mindy is the hunter in the family. Shelley doesn't really care too much about the birds. My Tina scared a poor squirrel half to death once. The poor unsuspecting creature came up to a window and tapped its little paws on the window to say hello. Tina watched for a bit and then banged one of her paws on the window. Bam! The poor squirrel fell over backwards from fright, but it recovered and scurried away.

Hi DannysMom

Sounds like Mindy is getting along brilliantly lately! Right little character! How sweet she laid with you all night. Has that ever happened before? Just shows how each and every day she gets more and more settled and sounds like her and Shelley are inseparable now and acting like sisters!

xxForeverxx

Hello xxForeverxx, yes Mindy has laid with me before. She likes to place her head right against my arm or hand. Mindy is very loving, and she let me snuggle my face into her fur. Today she wanted lots of attention as usual on a Saturday. She just enjoys having me home, as does Shelley. A couple of weeks ago Shelley and Mindy both laid down together on their perch by the window and they laid back to back and snoozed. That was so sweet! smile.gif Mindy is approaching her 3rd birthday which is July 20. I'm not sure if it really is that day since I don't know her exact birthday, but it seemed like a good guess to me since she was said to be 5 months old when I first met her in December 2011.

I have decided to stop posting on here thanks to the treatment that I have gotten by certain people. They know who they are. I've learned a painful lesson and lost a lot of money that way as well. I have learned that people may appear nice and act nice when they want something from you, but they are really not nice people at all. When people emotionally blackmail other people by saying that they will have to give up their cats and live on the street if I don't help that is just plain mean. I am not rich. I could hardly afford to give the money I have given, but I gave it because I felt bad for the person and because nobody else was helping. But I will not go through this again and be treated like this again.

I enjoyed posting about Mindy and Shelley, and now this person has taken that from me as well. I hope you're happy!

From what I have seen on the Web, it is possible the extortionist(s) never even HAD a pet. They would not hesitate to write a story out of thin air.
There are news stories all the time of people who have faked CANCER so they could fraudulently raise funds.

I have seen people cynically use fraternal and religious sites as place to make appeals for money.
I constantly get phone calls from Fake Charities.

Consider the Nigerian Scam emails as proof that career criminals will say ANYTHING AT ALL, however outrageous, to take your money.

Another example is the knowledge among such types that anyone over 65 is fair game.

One of the reasons we are here is because we love animals.
One of the reasons *I* love animals is because I am more and more convinced that Humanity is a degenerate, violent species of psychopathic feral ape, that fouls its own nest.
And I find the more I have to do with animals and the less I have to do with Humanity, the happier and safer I am!

And you just tangled with an example of Feral Human.

Jon370, thank you for your post. I just came back on here today, because I felt as if I had a message that I needed to read.
Your words made me pause and think. And you are right. I have contributed more than I have taken and why should I rob others of my contributions just because of this one person who I hope will get a lump of coal for Christmas this year (and even that would be too much!).

You said "One of the reasons we are here is because we love animals". Yes, that is true. Thank you for reminding me. Happy Anniversary, Mindy! I adopted you three years ago, December 29, 2011.

Posted by: DannysMom Jan 1 2015, 12:51 PM

Jon730, your Iggy sounds like he must be bigger than my Danny was. Danny clocked in at 18 pounds at his largest. I had tried so many different cat foods to get him to slim down, with very little success. Mindy, who is a tiny girl, now clocks in at 13.38 pounds and she HAS to lose weight. Short of making my own cat food I don't know what else to do as I am already carefully weighing out her and Shelley's portions. I wish these cat food companies would realize that cats need lots of protein, not carbs, which makes them fat! Cats are carnivores. I wish you success in trying to slim Iggy down. Does he still enjoy walks on a leash?

Thank you for sharing your advice on giving to charities. What you said makes a lot of sense. I have always been cautious and selective in who I give my money to, and I guess you could say this here was a "special" case and I got suckered in. Reading this person's posts on here is something I should not have done as that is what prompted me to give him money in the first place. Reading about how his cats are crying for hunger because their bowls are empty tugged at my heart strings. It took me a while to realize why nobody else was giving him any money, especially not his own family and relatives. That should have been a red flag for me in the beginning.

You are so right in saying "And any time an individual (Whose family and friends, who know more about them than you ever will, have reason not to help them) begs online with a good story, remember the News Story of a few months ago when a "Homeless Beggar" was filmed getting into a Mercedes after "Work". "

I mean when your own family doesn't want to help that really says something, doesn't it? I think this person had it in his mind that he was somehow "entitled" to my money, which he is NOT by any stretch of the imagination! I learned a hard lesson here, but I am okay.
