I was hoping I would not be back here on these boards so soon after Diamond's passing, but here I am...

Soxie began breathing a little erratic, so we took him to the emergency vet. Immediately, they put him on oxygen and diagnosed him with heart failure. They also found fluid in his lungs. As they ran more tests, they found he also has hyperthyroidism.

The doctor was able to drain the fluid and put him on meds to slow down the heart failure, but we have been told it is just a matter of time until the heart gives out.

The doctor wants to release him tonight so that he can go home and be in more comfortable surroundings.

Today is his 14th birthday, so it will be good to have him home. However, we are also devastated to know that this may be his last birthday.

Hi, Teresa, thank you so much for sharing with us how you and your precious Soxie are doing. Please permit me to offer you my sincerest condolences in the news you have received about his health status. You didn't mention if the vet put Soxie on thyroid medication. A malfunctioning thyroid can cause so many different health issues, as I learned from my beloved Oslo who was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 3 years before he joined the angels. Once the thyroid medication reached proper levels in his blood system, his overall health status improved. While it didn't stop the decline of the other medical issues, it did slow the progress once the thyroid resumed proper function. Of course this is what happened with my beloved Oslo, and each case is unique. I am so hoping and praying that getting your precious Soxie home to familiar surroundings will help him, and that the medication he is on now will help to provide a good quality of life for as long as possible.

I do understand so much how heartbreaking this news is for you, Teresa, especially so soon after having your beloved Diamond join the angels. The Anticipatory Grief journey has its own form of horror roller coaster ride. Please know we are here for you, Teresa, to share this journey with you and your precious Soxie.

Thank you so much for sharing your precious Soxie with us, Teresa. I know you and your precious Soxie will cherish every moment you have together, as you have done so throughout your earthly journey together. Please know you and your precious Soxie are in my thoughts and prayers, Teresa, and that I look forward to knowing how things are going.

Peace and blessings,

The most blessed way I have of knowing God's comforting love and grace is to look into the eyes and heart of God's creatures' sweet angelic face.
