Why does pet loss hurt so much?

I think the author covered the subject very well. I hope others take the time to read this as they will realize just how very normal their thoughts and feelings are.

Especially I have read so many times how some people wonder why it hurts more to lose a pet than they felt to lose a family member and they wonder if what they feel is normal.

I have a favorite postcard from the vet hospital who cared for my Little Guy. It has a picture on the front of a dog sleeping in an outside wooden chair with a kitten kind of lying on top of him. The kitten is wide awake and looking at the camera. It reads:

"A friend is one who knows you and loves you just the same."

Is it any wonder why a loss of such a "friend" hurts so much?

Thanks for sharing.
Judy
