Hi Everyone,
I cant even believe that Im writing what I am. For the past couple of days my husband has told me he wanted another dog right away..... I wasnt feeling the same. I was actually angry and feeling like it was WAY TOO SOON ! After all, I wanted my boy Dakota back , NOT a different dog. We decided to just go out today and LOOK ONLY , just to get us happier and out of our greif and kind of talk about what kind of dog we would like in the future.... I was not prepared to see the little boy that we saw today. We filled out adoption papers and will find out Monday if we get him. He is so adorable. He looks nothing like my Dakota and he will never beable to fill that void, but my children are so excited and Im hoping my other dog will not be so lonely after she gets adjusted. We probably wont get him for a while as he has to be neutered that micro-chipped, but Im finding myself really feeling the first little glimmer of happiness and excitement since Dakota got sick. My husband says we have so much love to give to another one and we have the room.....so why not ! Do you all think that this is ok? I know its only been days since Dakota is gone, but I dont think were doing it for the wrong reasons, were not trying to make him come back. We just love a full house full of animals ! Thank you ! Colleen,
I think it's great! You are doing it for the best reason of all, and there is no better way to honor your Dakota then to carry on the love of dogs. You will still miss Dakota, but a new little boy will help heal your heart. |

Hi Colleen!
I'm so excited for you! I don't think you should feel bad at all!!!! Personally, I would have gotten another puppy myself by now, but we are taking a cruise in December, so we are going to wait until we come back. We don't want to get a new puppy now and have to leave it for a week when we go. We still have a 3 year old black lab and I know he misses having someone to pay with. We are excited at getting him another furbaby to play with. Everybody is different and reacts differently to the idea of a new furbaby right away. I had lost a beautiful little yellow lab boy when he was hit by a car almost 12 years ago. I was out getting my Rachael two days later, and had her until she passed two weeks ago. She never replaced Cosmo and we never expected her to. However, she brought back SUCH joy into this house and we NEVER regretted it. She became just as important to us as Cosmo was. I've said in here before, that we all have SO much love for furbabies, that I think it's a shame when someone decides not to ever get another furbaby. The pain is VERY severe when we lose them, but the years of joy and unconditional love we get from them make it all worth it in the end. I hope everything goes smoothly for you all! Please let us know how it turns out. Cheri -------------------- Rachael Ann

Thank you both of your words of encouragement.
I couldnt believe when we saw this adorable HUGE puppy and we fell him love with him....... the total shock was when we looked at his name and it was "Montana!" I was just thinking that morning while lying in bed that we needed to name a new dog after a state so that it would sort of be a tribute and keep Dakota's tradition alive ! I knew it was meant to be :-) If all goes well with the adoption process we should hopefully get him this week ! I cryed again this morning for my boy and stared at his picture, but I know he would want us to go on. Im still sooo sad and aching for him. Thank you all ! Colleen |

Colleen!
Dakota gives you his blessing, I am sure. As someone else has said, your love for Montana will be IN HONOR OF sweet Dakota! You do have lots of love to give, and I am so glad to hear the news. Keep us posted on what you find out Monday! I love the "coincidence" of the name Montana. Definitely, it was a sign. I, too, got a sign about my new kitty, Dolly (and it, too, involved her name). There was no doubt she was meant to be mine... and my Little Girl is proud. -Kathy -------------------- Compassion for all animals. www.earthlings.com

Do we think it's ok? You aren't replacing Dakota, you are just giving another little one a chance to experience the same love and joy that Dakota did. How can that be wrong?
Love is always ok. |

Thanks everyone for your support. We found out that we are going to get Montana next Monday after he is neutered. We cant wait. He is sooooo adorable and what a little heartbreaker! I can barely stand to wait another 5 days !! Its just too quiet in the house.
I hope you all are doing well. Im thinking of all of you who are experiencing grief. Bless you ! Colleen |
