I am pretty emotionally exhausted right now, but please say prayers for my Nubis, too.

Friday night I came home and he was in severe respiratory distress. We took him to the ER Vet. He had a really rough night, they didn't give him the right meds so he didn't have a lot of improvement. This morning they got him on some better/right meds. They sent him home this afternoon after his breathing finally stabilized, but within hours of being home he was in severe trouble again.

He is back in the oxygen cage tonight. He is getting an IV of lasix. He also is running a fever. He is a fighter, I know he can pull through this.

Nubis went into heart failure last night. I had no idea he even had a heart problem. So, two cats in heart failure in one week. It's been pretty rough.

Please keep him in your thoughts

Thank you sissycat, Judy, and Bubba. Your kindness means the world to me, and I will never forget it. Thank you for praying for Nubis.

He was finally able to come last night around 9PM after 48 hours in the oxygen cage. His breathing had finally stabilized around 1pm, and they watched him for the rest of the day until they finally let him come home.

He is home now, but extremely weak. He is sleeping a lot, I am sure he is just exhausted. I know he is still feeling very crummy, which is really scary, but I guess I can't expect him to just be back to normal yet. It was a very rough weekend, but Nubis is fighting this (and hopefully winning!), and thank you all for sending him your prayers/thoughts.

Thank you all for your continued support

Oh gosh Nemo's Mommy, ohmy.gif

How dreadful for you to have to add more worry to your already full plate. unsure.gif I'm sorry I wasn't here when you brought the unexpected news of Nubis's heart condition. Glad to hear he is home with you now though. Has the vet given you any direction as to prognosis and/or treatment for Nubis & Ivy?

Please keep us updated as you are able.

Much love to all of you,
Beth

Thank you for your continued support Judy, Beth, and Toonie, and FK Mom.

Nubis and Ivy both have a condition called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. And unfortunately, they both have asthma also. I guess the conditions can often go hand in hand.

Nubis has been recovering but is still weak. He has good moments and bad moments. His heart rate has been back up a little a few times. The cardiologist said it may take him a good two weeks to get back to normal. But, he is eating and drinking.

Ivy is also having problems with her asthma, though. I can't get her to use the inhalers & mask because they scare her so much. So I am working on that. The vet was going to get me some brethine pills to give her until she got used to the inhalers. But they are compounding the pills and I don't know if I will be able to get them until Saturday.

I can't wait until they both get to feeling better and are back to normal. Then I can get rid of some of his constant anxiety.... smile.gif

Love

Oh Nemo's Mom

I'm so sorry to read of all of the health challenges with Nubis and Ivy.

I didn't see this thread. I used to be able to get alerts to certain threads and somehow have forgotten how to do that, if anyone can explain, I'll try to keep better track.

Wow, it's weird isn't it when things come all at once! I don't know why this is... I keep thinking there is some sort of shift going on, at least in my own life, where I am tested to either fully live, in a committed spiritual way, or die. That might sound a bit intense, but I see a lot of people right now going through some huge challenges right now, and I just wonder - is this something bigger that we are going through? Is it to learn about the transitory nature of life...? Seeing our sweet babies suffer has to be the hardest thing to go through.

Maybe it's just my need to make sense of things in life.

I am thinking of you, and will try to follow your threads now.

take care and sending healing thoughts to Nubis and Ivy.

((((((((hugs)))))))))

Thanks!

Nubis and Ivy have done WELL this week, thank goodness! Nubis had his echocardiogram on Tuesday. His heart disease (HCM) is just slightly more advanced than Ivy's. But they are doing very well, now (thank goodness!). It seems that Ivy had an upper respiratory infection last week.

Thanks for all your thoughts!
