Hi...Is there anyone out there? My first post. I put my Female 16 year old kitty, Ralphie....yes Ralphie and a female cat to sleep this morning. She had cancer in her lymph nodes. She actually lasted longer than her Vet thought. My Grandsons named her when she was only weeks old. I rescued her from a field with a broken tail. My Grandsons were only 3 and 5 when we brought her home. They kept on calling her Ralph and she would come running to them. She would suckle on their necks and of course the got a kick out of it. They are now 18 and almost 20. How can I get my mind to work. I have another cat 17 years old and both girls cats have been together since they were both babies.

RalphieGirl,
I am so sorry for your loss. Ralphie must have been a very happy kitty to be with you for so long. The fact that you have too cats of that age(s) says alot about you as a kitty parent! I'm sorry you had to make that awful decision. I had to do that 3 1/2 weeks ago for my 14-year old baby cat, Frasier. He and his brother have been with me since they were babies as well. I know you are hurting immeasurably right now and my heart goes out to you. The pain turns into an ache that just lingers and lingers.
For me, the most difficult part is not having our family intact anymore. My husband and I only have 4-legged babies so they are our children. We've all been together for so long, the hole in our hearts and the hole in our home is sometimes unbearable.
Please keep coming back to this forum as it is very helpful. The people here are so comforting and it is good to know that there are other people out there in the world who love their pets like you do. Please know you're in my thoughts.

Hi and welcome Ralphiegirl,

So sorry to hear of your loss, but Ralphie certainly had a wonderful life didn't she. She was so lucky to have found you, and you her. Your other kitty will be missing her terribly - and your grandsons! They have spent their whole childhood with her. You will all comfort each other.

You did the right thing, by making the decision to prevent further suffering. She is thanking you for being so brave, I just know that in my heart, don't ask me how I know it but I do.

Get out all your photos of Ralphie, and put them in a special place. The next few weeks will be tough, but you will get through it and she will be helping you. saying "thank you" for looking after her so well.

At the moment my 11 year old Birman cat "Puss" is sleeping right next to me, he's missing his puppy dog (Frankie, who died aged 17 1/2, six weeks ago) terribly. Strangely enough, I'm not a spiritual person but I feel even closer to Frankie since he passed on - his spirit is with me all the time.

mega hugs, and take good care of yourself, as Ralphie would take good care of you,

deb

im so sorry for your loss. its tough! i lost fred my ktty of 14 years this year and at times it still feels like a knife thru the heart. but shortly after i received a little gift from heaven (fred certainly played a big part) and i got lucy my new little puppy (well not a puppy anymore, shes turning one tomorrow ((she came to me at 6.5 months)) she has healed my heart so much. im glad you still have another cat. give him or her extra love, hugs and kisses. they have a way of knowing when our heart hurts and they will wrap their little paws around us and soak up all of our tears. be very kind to yourself and when you feel the intense pain, remember the wonderful times you had with ralphie and hold on to that. she is in a wonderful field now, where the sun never stops shining and she has many new friends but she looks down on you with love. shes your little angel now.
you are in my thoughts.
