Lightning-Strike Pet Loss Support Forum _ New Beginnings _ Shelley

Perhaps it was too soon to welcome a new addition to the family. It's only been two weeks since my sweet Tina passed on, and I miss her dearly. But there is something about this little cat. She has already touched my heart after only a few days. I named her Shelley. She is almost 1 year old. She had a litter of three beautiful kittens about 3 months ago, and nursing them has taken a lot out of her. She weighs only 6.5 pounds and could easily gain 1 pound without being overweight. In comparison, my Tina weighed 6.8 pounds when she died, and she was awful thin. Shelley is eating well, and that is good. She was hiding a lot at first, but now she is starting to come out of her 'shell', so to speak. Mindy has been chasing her, and that scares her. Shelley is a very loving cat. She likes to talk to me with little chirps and guttural sounds and almost coos like a dove. She has little flecks of color on her chest. She grabbed one of Tina's old catnip pillows and played with it and kicked it. She also likes the feather wand that Tina played with. Saturday morning she startled me when I woke up. She sat upright by my feet and looked at me with those gentle, green eyes. She and Mindy have touched noses today, and when I sat down on the bed Mindy snuggled up to me on my left side, and then Shelley snuggled up to me on my right side. It was amazing. Shelley did real good at the vet and got a clean bill of health.

DannysMom

What a beautiful young lady Shelley is. When it comes to sharing our hearts with animal companions, there is no "too soon" Only when it's supposed to hapen. Perhaps your Tina's living spirit guided Shelley your way, as Tom did with me and Tang. It's good to hear she and Mindy are getting along OK. I am chuckling at the "chirps" that's what Theresa did for the longest time before she found her "voice" Hope you and your fur kidletts are doing well today.

Hi, DannysMom, please permit me to offer you my sincere congratulations on your new family member Shelley. What a sweet face!!! DannysMom, plesae know your beloved Tina is very proud of you for welcoming this new little girl into your and little Mindy's heart and home. It sounds to me like your beloved Tina guided your and Shelley's paths to this moment when you would become her Forever Mom.

DannysMom, it does take time for a "new" family unit to feel comfortable, and this is true for your new baby girl Shelley as well. She is among "strangers" right now and she is very unsure as to how she "fits in" with the family unit. Your beloved Tina, and Danny, know that you will do everything in your power to help her feel loved and wanted, and take care of her so that she will have a happy and healthy earthly journey. So, enjoy your new family member, DannysMom. And rest assured that your little Mindy will be okay too.

I hope today is treating you, your precious little Mindy and baby girl Shelley kindly, and that you and your precious girls will have a very peaceful and cozy evening. I thank you for the blessing of your friendship, and of your precious little girls. Please know you and your precious furkids are in my thoughts and prayers, and that I always look forward to sharing how things are going for you and your little girls, and your treasured memories of your beloved Tina and Danny.

Peace and blessings,

Moon_beam, and Tom's Dad, thanks so much for stopping by to read about Shelley. She is quite a cat. It is so funny how she comes out from under the bed, first her paws, and then her head. She sniffed on Mindy's back today, only to be rewarded by a growl from Mindy. But it's a start. They're curious about each other. I thought I'd share the photo of the two of them on my bed together. Mindy is resting her head on a toy. You can see Shelley's colorful front legs. I am glad she is getting more comfortable here.

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you're doing, and this wonderful picture of your little Mindy and baby girl Shelley sharing some "quailty time" together. I know in time your little girls will be good frieinds - - it just happens one day at a time - - as all friendships do.

I hope today is treating you and your precious girls kindly, DannysMom, and that you and your precious furkids will have a very peaceful and cozy evening. Please know you, your precious little Mindy and baby girl Shelley are in my thoughts and prayers, and that I always look forward to knowing how you're doing and sharing your treasured memories of your beloved Danny and Tina.

Dear DannysMom, Shelley is one beautiful girl - I wish you and Mindy many more years of happiness together and look forward to any more stories or photos you wish to share, hope the universe is kind to you, Leejaye

Thanks for the well wishes, leejaye! smile.gif Shelley is very sweet, and I really like that photo of her and Mindy on the bed. Shelley's face looks like she is smiling.

It's been one week now since I brought Shelley home, and what a difference this week has made! Miss Shelley has really come out of her 'shell' in the past two days. She is feeling more comfortable here and ventures out of the bedroom more. She has also discovered the little toy mice that are strewn all over the place here. She LOVES them! And she is so acrobatic! She plays with the toy mice as if they are real. It is so much fun to watch. Mindy tries to imitate her, but doesn't quite get it. Shelley flips the mouse in the air, then jumps and catches it in mid-air. Earlier today, she was sunning herself by the open window. And what a talker she is! She makes all these little grunts, chirps, and cries. She is also very intelligent. She likes greeting me in the morning by rubbing her nose against mine. Shelley is still thin (nursing her kittens took a lot out of her), but she is eating good, and I hope she'll gain weight quickly. She weighed 6.5 pounds when I got her, and she could easily put on 1 pound or even 1 1/2 pounds without being overweight.

Thanks, moon_beam. I am very happy that Shelley is more comfortable here. Last night and this afternoon she has been napping in the 'kitty condo' that's part of the big cat jungle gym. She even chased Mindy earlier today, and then Mindy chased her right back. She rubbed noses a few times with Mindy and each time Shelley affectionately 'nudged' Mindy. I am so glad the two girls are beginning to play more together. Here is a photo of Shelley napping in the little kitty condo. It used to be one of Danny's favorite spots.

Posted by: leejaye May 20 2012, 07:06 PM

Dear DannysMom, It's just wonderful to hear that Shelley is settling in - I can just picture her with the toy mice!! And it's so good that both girls are getting used to each other, thankyou so much for the photo of Shelley napping in the cat condo, she is really a beautiful girl, give them their favourite pats for me, Leejaye

Posted by: DannysMom May 21 2012, 07:17 PM

Thanks for the comment on Shelley's photo, leejaye. She is really cute. Shelley has little light-colored dots on her chest and abdomen. I have not seen this before in a calico cat. I think I figured out why Shelley has been so friendly and nudging Mindy. She is in a heat cycle! laugh.gif
I should have recognized the behavior for what it is, but it has been so long since I've had a cat that's not spayed (yet). I hope I don't have any stray tomcats showing up here, wailing for Miss Shelley.

Posted by: leejaye May 22 2012, 03:32 AM

Hey DannysMom, Aha, that explains the friendliness! My Mischief girl was 18 months before I got her desexed, when she was on heat she just didn't want to know me but drooled all over my male flatmate and any male (human) visitors!! I hope you don't have any tomcats doing the rounds either!! Really hope all is good in your world, give the lovely ladies a pat for me, Leejaye PS I'd love to see more photos if you want to share them!!

I thought it was too soon two months after losing Chewy getting Ellie but I am so glad I did as she reminds me of him.....and I like that as it reminds me of how lucky I was to have Chewy. It also reminds me of how it was Chewy who made me love cats and now I just want to spread my love to helping more.

She is gorgeous! And I and I can't think o a better person to look aft her. It took Ellie time to bond with the other two. That photo of them two together shows a good start though.

Do they play fight together yet? Although both being girls they are probably less likely to do that I suppose.

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you and your precious baby girl Shelley are doing. Yes, when the hormones are flowing the more amorous the affections become. Hopefully come the first of June when the "surgery" is scheduled the "love cycle" will have cooled a bit.

I hope today is treating you, your precious Mindy and baby girl Shelley kindly, and that you and your precious furkids will have a very peaceful, blissful, and cozy evening. Please know you, your precious little Mindy and baby girl Shelley are in my thoughts and prayers, and that I always look forward to knowing how you're doing and sharing your treasured memories of your beloved Danny and Tina.

xxForeverxx, that is a nice thing you did adopting Ellie. Your sweet Chewy must have had a 'paw' in guiding you to her. I think it took Mindy and Shelley less time to get used to each other, because Shelley is in heat and therefore very loving and always nudging Mindy. They don't play fight as Shelley doesn't really get into fighting (she is a very sweet and somewhat timid cat), but they do chase each other with Mindy more often chasing Shelley. They're almost the same age, so that works out well. Shelley is a big talker, making all sorts of grunts, chirps, and squawks.

Posted by: DannysMom May 25 2012, 04:25 PM

Shelley had her spay surgery today and it went well. I am very thankful that she made it through without complications as I had been worried about her. She is a bit of a fussy cat, and she's also clever and gave Mindy's old plastic e-collar the slip without a problem. So, now she's wearing this big, blue, soft vinyl e-collar. She doesn't like it, but she can eat and drink water and lie down comfortably. Shelley wouldn't stop licking her incision, so this is for her protection. How do you explain to them that they need this silly, big collar? I feel so bad for my little girl. Mindy did much better with her e-collar and didn't put up a fight. She seemed to understand that it was necessary. I do hope Shelley gets used to it. Sigh! Male cats are so much easier to deal with when it comes to that kind of procedure.

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you're doing, and how your precious baby girl is doing with her recovery. Yes, I know it can be very distressing having to be the one to insist that our furkids do something that is not to their liking at all - - like wearing an e-collar. Hopefully you will be able to transition her out of it over the next several days - - providing she is a "good girl" with not bothering her incision. The good news is that she is more comfortable with this collar than the more rigid plastic ones. Please let us know how things go.

I hope today is treating you, your precious Mindy and baby girl Shelley kindly, and that you and your precious girls will have a good long weekend together. Please know you, your precious little Mindy and baby girl Shelley are in my thoughts and prayers, and that I always look forward to knowing how you're doing and sharing your treasured memories of your beloved Danny and Tina.

Hello, DannysMom

Oh no, the dreaded FUNNEL! Bless her heart. She looks like she's saying "Mommy what IS this thing, and why oh why do I have to wear it?" Hopefully it won't be too long. Hoping this holiday weekend is treating you and your girls well.

moon_beam and Tom's Dad, thanks very much for your comments. Shelley is indeed not happy with this big blue funnel that makes her look like some sort of clown, but she is tolerating it better than the rigid, plastic one. She gave the collar the slip in the litter box earlier, so I had to put it back on and tie it. Sigh! Shelley snuggled up with me on the bed this morning, and she just loves attention. Mindy did hiss at her a bit last night because of the strange smells from the vet, but she is nice again to her little friend today. I've been giving Shelley some pain medication which I only need to rub on her gums, and that seems to help. I hope that maybe on Tuesday or Wednesday I can take off the collar. Poor Shelley! I feel so bad for her and try to make her as comfortable as possible. This is a bit exhausting for me as I worry about her incision.

Posted by: moon_beam May 26 2012, 02:08 PM

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you, your precious Mindy, and baby girl Shelley are doing. Our furkids are so ingenius about finding ways to wriggle out of things - - collars, halters, - - e-collars. I'm glad you put it back on her because she needs to know that it only comes off when YOU want it to come off.

I can understand your concern about her incision, for I, too, worried about my baby girl Abbygayle's incisions as well - - her "female" surgery and each of her cancer surgeries. Please know you and your precious baby girl are in my thoughts and prayers and please let us know how things are going.

Once again, I hope today is treating you, your precious Mindy and baby girl Shelley kindly, and that you and your precious girls will have a very peaceful, blissful, and cozy evening. Hi leejaye! Friday is the day that the collar comes off for good! I can hardly wait. I tried the plastic one on Shelley, but she freaked out and walked real funny with it. Mindy was okay with the plastic collar, and she did so well with it, being very patient and understanding. I think the soft, vinyl e-collars are much better for them. Shelley's incision looks okay, just a little scab, and the vet put some Neosporin on it today. Give your little Purszi a pat on the head from me! smile.gif

Posted by: moon_beam May 30 2012, 11:45 AM

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you and your precious baby girl Shelley is doing. So glad her recovery continues to be on track. Neosporin is, in my opinion, a "miracle drug." Even if your baby girl somehow manages to lick it off it won't hurt her. I know both you and your baby girl are eagerly anticipating Friday. Will you have a ceremony for it? I can just hear your baby girl singing "happy days are here again!!!"

I hope today is treating you, your precious little Mindy and baby girl Shelley kindly, my friend, and that you and your precious girls will have a very peaceful, blissful, and cozy evening. Moon_beam, thanks for the advice on the Neosporin. I didn't know that it was so safe. I think a ceremony on Friday would be a great idea. smile.gif I took the collar off this evening so that Shelley can relax a bit. Mindy took that as a cue that it is now permitted to chase her big sister again, so I had to remind her to cool it until Friday. Yesterday, Shelley laid down in what used to be Tina's "cat chair" for the first time. Incidentally, yesterday it was 30 days since Tina was buried. I wonder if Shelley was waiting until then to pay her respects to Tina before claiming the chair. I just had to take a photo of her as she looks so comfy in the chair.

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you and your precious baby girl Shelley are doing. I am so glad she had a respite from the collar last night. She is a beautiful little girl and I would not be surprised at all if she was honoring your beloved Tina by waiting to settle into the chair. I am soooo happy for you and your precious little Mindy to have Shelley in your hearts and home now. I know your precious Tina guided your paths together.

I hope today is treating you, your precious Mindy and baby girl Shelley kindly, my friend, and that you and your precious girls will have a very peaceful, blissful, and cozy evening. Just one more night with the collar and then it's over! Shelley and Mindy like chasing each other, with Mindy chasing Shelley more often, and Shelley giving off a displeased low growl when she's had enough. I just had to post this photo. It shows Shelley next to Tina's portraits as she was "hiding" from Mindy.

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you, your precious Mindy and baby girl Shelley are doing, and for the wonderful picture of your precious Shelley taking refuge among your beloved Tina's pictures. I love your baby Shelley's black nose - -very distinctive from your beloved Tina's white blaise.

I trust all is going well minus the e-collar now. I can imagine the freedom she must be feeling now and she will probably want to make the most of it until she realizes she no longer has to be bothered with it.

I thank you for the blessing of your friendship, DannysMom, and of your precious girls. Moon_beam, thank you for stopping by and commenting on Shelley's nose smile.gif I think her nose is really cute, but it has taken me a while to get used to her different look. Tina's facial markings were more symmetrical. Shelley's face and chin are very colorful, like someone took a paintbrush and just let loose. I can't help but smiling when I look at this sweet little face.

Today is a very special day for Shelley. It is her birthday (or at least what I'm guessing is her birthday)! She is 1 year old today! I sang 'Happy Birthday' to her and she looked up at me and meowed a few times. Mindy and Shelley have been busy chasing each other around this morning. Shelley loves to chase after little toy balls. She just can't get enough of running after them. She has also taken to a little green felt toy that's been sitting unused and was a leftover Christmas present for Tina and Danny. She loves that thing and she throws it in the air and paws it like it's real prey. I even saw her stomping on it with both hind paws. She is so funny!

Hi DannysMom

HaHa she really did not look happy in that collar.....great photo! There different to our ones we get given ours are solid boring colour ones which makes it extremely hard for our ones to eat or do anything without bumping into things. I am impressed she kept it on......Pixie lasted an hour with hers ad it was off......and it was going back on.....but then shes a very small cat and it probably weighed more than her!

I am so glad to here it all went well. That is a lovely photo of her next to Tina's photo......and a lovely photo of Tina. I think Tina would be proud of your new edition. Happy belated birthday to Shelley for last Saturday. Sounds like she was meowing back singing smile.gif

I can not wait to hear what you have been up to with your fur babies this week.

Posted by: DannysMom Jun 8 2012, 09:04 PM

xxForeverxx, thank you for the belated birthday wishes for Shelley! She has so much energy and wants to play all the time while Mindy is getting chubby and sleeping most of the time or looking out the window. Shelley's favorite activity is to chase after little toy balls. She also likes toy mice and pretends they are real prey, flipping them in the air and pawing at them. She nags me when she wants to play. Mindy likes "washing" Shelley. A couple days ago I found Shelley sitting down with Mindy halfway on Shelley's back. Mindy had her front paws wrapped around Shelley's neck in a big hug and was profusely licking her head and ears while Shelley held still. Mindy also has taken up duty as the litter box police and always covers up Shelley's deposits. When I play with Mindy and Shelley joins in the little tux girl gets all jealous and lets Shelley know who's boss around here! smile.gif Here is a good photo of Shelley and her colorful legs. Her tummy is still bare, but the fur is growing back slowly.

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you, your precious Mindy, and baby girl Shelley are doing. Sounds like Mindy is taking on the role of "caregiver" with her baby sister (even though Shelley is a little older than Mindy, she is still, and will always be, the "younger" family member).

I can so relate to how you feel about being glad when Shelley's tummy fur has grown back in. I remember when my mom's kitty Holly had her surgery and I brought her home from the vet. My mom took a look at her and cried, "Oh what a difference fur makes!!!" Holly's tummy was naked from the surgery and she looked half her size without her tummy fur.

Sounds like your baby girl is making up for "lost time" during her recovery with playing and playing and playing. I know your heart is soaring to see her recovered from the surgery and feeling so well and happy.

I hope today is treating you and your precious girls kindly, my friend, and that you and your precious fur family will have a very enjoyable weekend. Thank you so much for sharing your precious baby girl with us. She is so stuning with her markings. I thank you for the blessing of your friendship, DannysMom, and of your precious girls. Moon_beam, thanks so much for stopping by and reading about Shelley! smile.gif She had to go to the vet this morning to get her last round of shots. She cried all the way down there in the car, but she did really well. They scrubbed down her tummy to get rid of the scabs and put some kind of gel on her incision that I'm supposed to use a few times a day to help it heal. Her heart and lungs sound good, and palpitations were normal as well. She gained another few ounces and is up to 7.2 pounds now. Dr. V. says she could still gain 1 more pound and be fine. I mentioned to him that I suspect there might be a Siamese in Shelley's family tree, and he agreed. You can see it in her face shape, her bone structure, and the fact that she LOVES to talk. smile.gif She is also very athletic.

Shelley was so good about being handled and examined. She quieted down on the way home, and Mindy was glad to see her little friend.

Glad to hear your precious Shelley is doing better. I know all about the Siamese "talking" My first cat Chauncey was a full blooded. When he cried he sounded like a baby. Here's to your Shelley, Mindy and you having a great Caturday!

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how your precious Shelley did with her vet check up. I can so relate to her crying all the way to the vet, and being contented on the way home. I'm so glad she is doing so well with her surgery recovery and now being able to gain some weight. I know how concerned you have been as she was so undernourished when you became her Forever Mom.

Moon_beam, thanks for stopping by and commenting on Shelley's vet visit. I'm glad it went so well. They gave me a small bottle of Vetericyn, a hydro-gel that helps with wound healing. Shelley is quite good about me squirting a bit on her incision a couple times a day.
Today marks 1 month since I brought Shelley home with me. It feels like much longer than that. I still remember how she was so scared and clung to her previous owner when she saw me. She was so frightened, and I felt so bad. She has come nicely out of her "shell" since then, and I am so thankful for that. She is a sweet cat, and I guess the stronger bond will come in time. After all, she is a "teenager" now, and so she kinda wants to do her own thing. I do miss that she doesn't sleep with me every night like Tina did, but maybe that will come in time.

Shelley and Mindy had a little spat yesterday. Mindy got miffed again when Shelley joined in to play, and so she stood over her and "washed" her, and then she stepped on Shelley's side with one of her paws. Shelley cried out in pain, and tried to get away, with Mindy chasing after her. I got a nice new teaser toy for them, and took turns playing with them yesterday, with each one waiting their turn. Mindy loves 'washing" Shelley when she walks up to her.

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you, your precious Mindy and baby girl Shelley are doing. I'm so glad Shelley's incision is continuing to heal, and that she is cooperative when you put the medication on her tummy.

Holding the back of the neck and pinning is a "dominance" gesture. Teeth usually do not penetrate but just grab the back of the neck like a mother cat carrying her youngsters. It's always good to keep an eye on things as you're doing just in case things escalate more than what Mindy may realize. Both your precious Mindy and baby girl Shelley are so blessed to have you for their Forever Mom.

I hope today is treating you and your precious girls kindly, my friend, and that you and your precious fur family will have a very peaceful, blissful, and cozy evening. Moon_beam, thank you for sharing with me what Mindy's behavior means. She doesn't bite Shelley in the back of the neck, but rather the side of her neck. First, she profusely licks her head and ears, and then she bites playfully in the side of her neck, at which time Shelley starts to voice her displeasure by growling and meowing. Last night Mindy was so relentless with Shelley. Almost every time that Shelley walked up to Mindy she "grabbed" her. I always try to supervise and intervene if necessary. Mindy almost treats Shelley as if she is her own little personal kitty "doll". She just can't get enough of her. They were lying next to each other by one of the scratch posts last night, and Mindy was playfully "pawing" at Shelley. After a while, Shelley had enough and growled. I'm glad that Shelley is so sweet and gentle. Mindy would never have been able to do all that with Tina whose very presence sometimes scared the "paws" off Mindy.

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you, your precious Mindy and baby girl Shelley are doing. Sounds like Mindy is happy to have another house mate, and this time someone she can "dominate" - - instead of being "dominated." As Shelley gets settled in more I would not be surprised at all to see her eventually become more of an "equal" to Mindy. It never ceased to awe me when I would watch my furkids interact with each other. There were a few times when I had to intervene when the play began to cross the line bordering on aggravation and then the next minute I would see them curled up around one another as though no disputes had happened. What a wonderful world your precious Mindy and baby girl Shelley are sharing with you, DannysMom, and what a precious blessing they are for you.

I hope today is treating you and your precious girls kindly, my friend, and that you and your precious fur family will have a very peaceful, blissful, and cozy evening. Thank you so much for sharing your precious baby girl with us. I thank you for the blessing of your friendship, DannysMom, and of your precious girls. Moon_beam, thank you for your comments. Mindy has become more daring. Last night she pounced on Shelley and grabbed her little body in a hug and wrestled her while Shelley let out little shrieks and tried to get away from Mindy. It appears that Mindy likes to play a bit rough like Tina used to play with Danny, and Shelley is confused. Little Shelley is a very gentle cat. She likes to chase Mindy, and last night they had such a good chase that Mindy started panting. I'm a bit worried about Mindy as she is less active than Shelley and doesn't really want to run and jump after a toy like Shelley does. I'm hoping she does not have a heart condition.
Shelley sat in the window today and meowed at me when I came back from running an errand. So sweet! And she came downstairs and greeted me, just like Tina used to do. Shelley is a gentle cat and so far has displayed none of the famed calico temper.

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you, your precious Mindy and baby girl Shelley are doing. Sounds like your Mindy is going through a "tom boy" stage - - and what better way to let the energy out than rough housing with a fellow house mate!!! Poor baby Shelley - - it's a challenge being the "under cat". But she has her Forever Mom on her side, and she knows you will not let her "big sister" hurt her, as I'm sure little Mindy would not want to anyway. Sounds like your baby girl is a "lady" - - I'm soooo glad you have both your precious Mindy and baby girl Shelley in your heart and life.

Moon_beam, thanks for stopping by and commenting on my girls. They bring me so much joy, and I am glad they get along so well, because I had hoped so much that Shelley would be a good friend to Mindy. I think Shelley can put up with Mindy's antics, because she raised three kittens, and they were probably very rambunctious with their mommie.

I finally caught the girls on film, so you can see how much fun they're having. Notice Shelley's patient look as Mindy is play biting her.

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you, your baby girl Shelley and precious Mindy are doing. Shelley certainly looks like she's "down for the count" with Mindy on top of her. Shelley is a very patient little sister, and a wonderful housemate for Mindy and you.

Yes, Shelley was "down", but not "out"! smile.gif Here are the girls, playing paddy cakes. They are almost the same size, not much difference between them. Shelley is more large-boned and muscular than Mindy, and this is due to her Siamese heritage. I think she is probably 1/4 Siamese. I sure wish I knew more about her history. Shelley likes walking up to Mindy to get her dose of loving, a good "washing" behind the ears and on the head. I am just still so amazed at how well they get along. Yesterday, Mindy tried her hand at chasing after a toy ball, but Shelley always interfered and ran off with it.

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you, your precious Mindy and baby girl Shelley are doing, and this wonderful picture of your girls. Sounds like Miss Shelley is coming out of her shell, feeling more confident, and finding ways to "best", or annoy, her big sister (even though Miss Shelley is older than Mindy, Mindy is still her "big sister" in "seniority") - - such as running off with the toys!!!! I know how concerned you were for awhile when your baby girl joined the household that perhaps Mindy might not accept her. I am so oooooo thrilled for you and your precious girls that Miss Shelley is finding her own place with her Forever Home.

Thank your for your kind words, moon_beam. I too am thrilled that Mindy and Shelley are getting along and are playing together. Last night Mindy was stalking Shelley and blocked her path when she came around the couch, but Shelley just jumped right over Mindy and sped away. Mindy looked dumbfounded and didn't know what to do. Mindy also had Shelley in a prolonged headlock last night. Her little paws were wrapped so tight around Shelley's neck that I thought she was going to strangle her. Poor Shelley shrieked and freed herself from Mindy's grip. I don't know why Mindy likes to play rough like this.

Today, after I brought Shelley back from the vet, Mindy was very affectionate towards her and gave her a good "bath". She seemed glad to see Shelley and was mindful of her vet visit and treated her gently. Shelley had some diarrhea with streaks of bright red blood (Hematochezia). She didn't have a fever and seemed okay otherwise. Still, it worries me as I don't know what's causing it, and I'll have to keep an eye on my little girl. I am very concerned about her and just hope it's nothing serious. This is the second incidence of the bloody diarrhea. The first time it was caused by food she couldn't tolerate, but this time there has been no change in food.

I find it the best thing to watch my cats play fight like yours are in the photos. My boy Fudge and the new addition Ellie will sit facing each other just staring and then suddenly one will take the jump and they will both be on the floor. Its hilarious!

I hope Shelley is ok. I am sure she will be fine. Keep us up to date about her situation. Its lovely that Mindy welcomed her home so lovingly though. That just shows how special Mindy is.

xxForeverxx, thanks for stopping by. I always look forward to hearing from you. I am so glad that Ellie is getting along so great with Fudge. Shelley is doing much better, thanks to the Florentero probiotic tablets. She always meows excitedly when I put them in her bowl. She is such a talker! She chirps, grunts, and squawks! When she sees a bug she meows to let me know and won't rest until I investigate. Mindy always goes on bug patrol down by the door at night to keep the crickets from coming in. It's funny, because Danny used to do the same thing.

This is a nice photo of Miss Shelley where you can see her soft, green eyes. She really has such gentle eyes. Miss Shelley has graduated from Kitty Play 101 with flying colors. Yesterday she made Mindy hiss while wrestling with her. Shelley is now well versed in all the ins and outs of kitty play. Drill sergeant Mindy has successfully 'toughened' her up. smile.gif

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you, your precious Mindy, and baby girl Shelley are doing, and for sharing this wonderful picture of your beautiful baby girl. I am so chuckling at her graduation from Kitty Play 101. So Mindy is now having the tables turned on her. That is so funny.

I'm so glad that Miss Shelley is doing so well with the Florentero probiotic tablets. I know this takes a concern off your mind because it seems like since she's been on them she has been doing better with her digestive system. I hope this continues to be the case, my friend. She was such a young baby when she had her kittens and she did not receive the proper care she needed during her motherhood time which does take a toll on the physical body. I am sooo glad she now has you for her Forever Mom.

Tom's Dad, thanks for stopping by and commenting on Shelley's picture. Yesterday was a very special day for me and Miss Shelley. She actually sat with me and let me cuddle her for a little bit. She is not a lap cat, so I was very surprised. She purred like crazy and her whole body was vibrating with the purrs. I told her how much I appreciate her and that we need to do this more often. She rubbed her head against my hand and licked my hand and looked at me so gently with those soft green eyes. Oh, what a wonderful feeling to be loved by this little kitty! smile.gif

The past few days we have been so miserable because of the heat, and my AC is not keeping up. I am supposed to get a new compressor now, because it is not operating as efficiently as it should. I hope that will help. It is 86 in here and it just won't budge. It feels like a giant oven, and I just want to jump in a tub full of ice water.

Posted by: Tom's Dad Jul 8 2012, 04:44 PM

DannysMom, you are welcome. (The song is from TBBT, it just seemed appropriate)

I'm so sorry your AC is still acting up. Do you live in an apartment? If so, I'd be kicking some maintenance butt. When mine acted up last year, the weekend guy at least brought me a window unit. But even with that...yeah I feel your suffering.

So glad to hear of your special moment with Shelley. Tang did that in the beginning, as did Theresa. Rescues are so very thankful and affectionate. Actually, I kind of miss Tang on the back for the chair petting my head with his tail the way Tom used to rolleyes.gif

I hope you get your AC fixed ASAP and can somehow keep cool. TTFN

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you and your precious Miss Shelley are doing. How sweet that she cuddled with you in your lap. I know this means a great deal to you, and hope this "special moment" will evolve into an ongoing tradition for you both to enjoy.

I hope you are able to get your AC unit fixed quickly. About 3, maybe 4, years ago I had to have a new compressor installed in the unit to the upstairs - - and of course during the hottest part of the summer. Hopefully this repair will be covered by the apartment management so that you will not have to pay for it.

Tom's Dad and moon_beam, thank you both for stopping by and posting comments. Hopefully they will fix the AC tomorrow if the weather is better. They did get the part in today. Miss Shelley has a bad case of tapeworms! Yikes! I am so glad that she pooped on the floor today, because I wouldn't have seen the worms otherwise. I suspected that the last time I had her at the vet, but they didn't find anything. Sigh! I took both Shelley and Mindy, because Mindy could have it too and I don't want to have to go back there with her another time. The vet tech said she never saw so many tape worms in a cat's poop. I felt so bad. This is all my fault. I wished poor Shelley could have been treated for this sooner. Both my girls were so good at the vet, but Mindy got very concerned when they took Shelley in the back room. I told her that she'll be back shortly. Mindy is so protective of Shelley and they just love each other as if they were litter mates. They both got a pill to kill the tapeworms and another pill to kill the fleas. I can't put any topical flea treatment on either of them, because they play with each other and lick each other's head and neck. They were so good about taking the pills.

Shelley is weighing in at 8 pounds now, so I need to start giving her a bit less food from now on. Mindy unfortunately weight 10.4 (gasp!) pounds!!! She really shouldn't weigh more than 9 pounds, so I have to watch her portions even more. I don't care for the weight control food as it really doesn't help. It has a bunch of carbs which makes them even more hungry.

Mindy and Shelley seem to be inseparable. Just a few minutes ago, Mindy was snuggled up against Shelley's body and she was "washing" her again. I LOVE my girls! smile.gif

So sorry to hear about the tape worms sad.gif Theresa had a bout of that a while back. The only thing that's really been wrong with her other than that upper resp/inner ear infection scare when I first got her. But, they gave us some medicine and flea prevention and it cleared right up. Sound like your girls got the same. Hope they feel better soon. TTFN

Hope the medication for the worms will help them. You may want to use disposable gloves when you clean their latrines, and of course I know this goes without saying - - wash your hands thoroughly afterward.

Sounds like your precious girls are doing well otherwise and enjoying each other's company. And I know you are enjoying having them in your heart and home. I hope you will be able to get the AC unit fixed today so that you and your precious fur tribe will be more comfortable.

Tom's Dad that made me giggle that song does always remind me of our lil fur babies for some reason even though the point of it is no relation to our cats!

I hope your AC works soon DannysMom. In all honesty I do not know what it feels like to be baking in your own house as in England we do not exactly need AC in our houses as it's always too cold! Can not be nice though so I hope they get it sorted for you and Mindy and Shelley too.

Do not feel bad about not noticing the worms before. They are so hard to spot and cats do not always show symptoms straight away. At least you saw it and sorted it though and I am sure Shelley is so grateful for that. How great it must feel to have her sit with you for a stroke and purr away.......how rewarding. See you just have so much love to give and they are showing you just how good of mummy you are being.

I look forward to hearing what's happening next in the household of DannysMom smile.gif

xxForeverxx, thanks so much for stopping by! My AC is working fine now, but we were really baking for a few days. The portable unit just basically cooled off one room. It must be nice not needing air conditioning, but then again, yes, I've heard that how it's always too cold in England.

Shelley is doing so much better now that the tapeworm is gone. Her fur is shinier and softer. She is still a "nervous Nellie" though, always so active and restless. Mindy is more laid back and calmer. Early this morning I woke up to find Shelley curled up beside me. She was so happy to see me awake that she started licking my hand. Then she sat on my chest and purred. It reminded me so much of Tina that I started crying, and then she moved off my chest and snuggled up so close to my chest, just like Tina had always done. For a minute there it felt like having Tina back.

Here is a photo of my girls sharing a window

moon_beam is right with what it looks like Shelley is saying. Another lovely picture.

You say Shelley moved to your chest though and still stayed there curled up purring........shows just how much she understands why you are crying and is there for you to hug when you want to. Tina was a massive part of your life and you should never feel bad for crying when one reminds you of Tina or even Danny too of course. It shows you cared and still care and you miss them. Shelley patiently waited as if to say I am here for you which is lovely as well.

Looking forward to the next picture.

I should have changed the caption on the last photo to "Oh no, M-o-o-o-m! Not the nail clippers!" smile.gif
I trimmed Shelley's nails for the first time recently and she was so skittish about it. She tried to bolt several times, and I had to reassure her that it wasn't going to hurt. Still, I am surprised that she let me do it at all. Tina NEVER let me trim her nails. She freaked out when I even tried to touch her paw.

Haha excellent laugh.gif Wow reading your posts really are cheering me up. Definately looks like she is going noooooo mooommm! lol

I think Ellie would let me cut her claws but I do not think the other two would as they tend to flinch when I touch their paws. Is it hard to cut them as I have never done it myself before? I always get the vets to do the rabbits.

xxForeverxx, glad that it made you laugh! smile.gif Here is a cute picture of Shelley, curled up so peacefully. You can see her pretty markings. I love this photo as it really shows her gentle nature. Shelley doesn't mind being picked up and held for a quick cuddle.

It isn't hard trimming a cat's nails. The best thing to do is to hold them in your lap while sitting down on the floor, and then you gently take a paw and gently squeeze it so that the claws will come out. Then, you just cut a bit off each claw. Be careful not to cut too much as you can cut the quick. Giving them a treat afterwards helps too. Mindy is much better at getting her nails trimmed than Shelley.

It is never something I have thought about doing as they have their scratching posts. But Fudge did snap one of his earlier this year as it was bleeding and to start with I thought it was scrapping with Ellie as it was when we had first got her but then a snapped nail must of been because it was too long. How often do you do yours?

She really has a beautiful mix of colours.

xxForeverxx, thank you for commenting and saying that Shelley has a beautiful mix of colors. She is indeed a real pretty calico girl, and I love looking at her markings. I usually trim Mindy's nails once a month so that she doesn't develop ingrown nails on her extra toes. I think once a month should be fine for the nail trimming. They do shed their claws every once in a while which is quite normal, just like they lose their whiskers and grow new ones.

Shelley has been very rambunctious the past few days, playing more aggressively with Mindy. She will jump on Mindy's back and hold her down and "bite" the side of her neck. Mindy is not amused and growls and hisses. She does not like being the "underdog" in a play fight. But she doesn't hold a grudge and still comes back to Shelley and grooms her. I guess Mindy wants to be the dominant cat since she was here first.

Posted by: DannysMom Sep 23 2012, 12:53 PM

Miss Shelley is slowly becoming more of a lap cat. Yesterday, she sat on my lap twice, and she stayed even longer the second time. She put her front paws on my chest and looked up at me so adoringly. She licked my hand and she stretched herself out and enjoyed being petted. She doesn't stay very long, because she is so active and restless, but she does enjoy being with me. She tried to "help" me change the linens, but that didn't work out so well as she tries to grab and play with the sheets.

I trimmed her nails again and she did real good this time and allowed me to handle her paws. I think she trusted me more after having seen it done on Mindy who held still. Shelley's been with me now for over 4 months and I've grown so fond of her and love seeing her colorful little face every day. She is such a sweet and gentle cat, and truly a gift from above.

It sounds like your little Miss Shelley knows she has found her Forever Home with you - - her Forever Mom. While there is usually the "love at first sight" heart bond that happens when we see our companions for the first time, it is only the beginning of an ongoing continual mutual bonding of trust and love that is for all eternity - - for love is a living, growing, nurturing bond that transcends the physical laws of time and space. I know your beloved Tina and Danny are so happy to see your heart loved and nurtured by your precious Miss Shelley and little Mindy.

Hi DannysMom

I definately agree with Mindy wanted to be the dominant one as she was there first. When we first got Ellie, Ellie would viciously attack Fudge and Pixie but after we slowly got them to get along the tables have now turned. Ellie will lick Fudge and Pixie all the time but neither of them will lick her.......she also will no longer try and play fight with Pixie only Fudge. So I think Ellie knows now that especially with Pixie, she was there first so she is the dominant one.

I bet she will become a great lap cat one day. I think it just takes time sometimes. Fudge and Pixie never used to be.....I sometimes wonder whether it was because I was so obsessed with Chewy and Chewy being with me all the time. And then bringing Ellie in interrupted as well but now they are both so affectionate and always sit with us for ages.

So funny when they "try" and help you do the housework. Mine still play with my feet at night if they move under the cover......much to my amusement. Do yours do that? I am glad that you are enjoying your time with Shelley. She was sent to you for a reason and it seems she is fulfilling the role very well. A great cat for a great person.

xxForeverxx

Posted by: DannysMom Sep 28 2012, 05:49 PM

Moon_beam, yes Shelley is definitely a "keeper"! smile.gif

xxForeverxx, it's good to hear from you! That is so funny how Ellie will groom Pixie and Fudge but they don't groom her back. Maybe Ellie picks fights with Fudge because he's more laid back than Pixie? That is so sweet how Fudge and Pixie have become lap cats. Tuxedos usually are very loving and affectionate cats. Shelley also does attack my feet under the covers if I move at night. Mindy could care less. She just wants to continue her nap with me. Almost every night I find both of them snuggled up against my legs.

Last night Shelley was there first and later on Mindy joined us and first groomed Shelley and wrestled with her before snuggling right beside her.

Shelley and I have become good at conversing with each other. She'll make a sound and then I imitate it. Then she'll make another sound and I imitate it. This continues for a while, and she seems to enjoy "talking" to me. It's mostly sounds of "Wraa" and "Urr". Sometimes she stretches out on the floor and lets me gently rub her tummy. She looks so cute all stretched out.

It is so difficult to get a good picture of Miss Shelley. My "nervous Nellie" always moves her head when I push the button. Here she is getting ready to nip at Mindy's paws. They had a quick little tussle. I love seeing them wrestle together with their front paws wrapped around each other, kicking, and rolling around.

I found out that Shelley likes cartoons when I watched a Disney movie that had a short cartoon before it began. Shelley followed the action with her eyes and swatted the screen with her paws. She was so delighted. And then it occurred to me that she did grow up with a 3 year-old boy who must have always watched a lot of cartoons. Lately she has also developed a taste for the outdoors, asking to go out on the balcony to watch the birds and whatever else comes by. Shelley is a very active cat who gets bored easily -- that's the Siamese part of her. She likes pushing her little sponge balls under tables, and then I have to always fish them out. Sometimes when Mindy gets a bit rough she will just sit up, look at Mindy, and give off a deep sigh as if she is counting to 10.

Hi DannysMom

You can tell by the picture Mindy is looking as if to say if you nip my toes I will get ya! Have you ever tried a cat DVD? Not that I am saying a cat should just sit in front of the tv all the time but I brought one for Ellie mainly as she came from the outdoors and now she's indoors and she loved it swatting the birds and chasing the ball on the tv. Shelley might like something like that every now and again if she has the urge for things outside.

I bet she's quite a long cat stretched out? She really is beautiful. It made me giggle when you said you have conversations with her. It is just like have children though I am always talking to mine!

xxForeverxx, I have never tried a cat DVD, but I have heard of them. I am sure both Shelley and Mindy might enjoy it, but I'm afraid Shelley would scratch up my LCD screen. She has swatted at it before, and I don't want to encourage her. But it sounds like so much fun, and I'm glad that Ellie is enjoying it. Shelley and Mindy have had some more balcony time, but it seems Mindy is staying out longer. Shelley growled when she heard a big truck outside today. I had to laugh as I remembered my Danny boy always growled at the UPS truck.

Shelley is a real "talker". She makes all kinds of sounds, and sometimes she almost coos like a dove. She has become more of a cuddle cat and enjoys being on my lap and having my arm lovingly support her. She likes being held close and it seems to give her comfort. Recently she stayed on my lap for 30 minutes which is a record for her. She even fell asleep! smile.gif

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you and your precious Shelley and Mindy are doing. It sounds like your precious Shelley enjoys her special time with you, and I know how much you enjoy having her cuddle and fall asleep on your lap. I know how much joy both of your precious girls bring to you, my friend - - I know they are the light of your life.

Hope you and your precious girls are safe from the effects of Hurricane Sandy. Have begun to hear about coastline evacuations along the VA shore on the news and wonder if you and your girls will also need to seek shelter on higher ground.

I hope today is treating you and your precious girls kindly, DannysMom, and that each of you will have a very safe, peaceful, blissful, and cozy evening, and that you will not be adversely affected by Sandy. I thank you for the blessing of your friendship, DannysMom, and of your precious little Shelley and Mindy. Hi DannysMom

Yeah I understand what you mean about the TV. My other half was not too impressed when I first got the DVD as our telly was new at the time. We soon realised luckily that they used their paws not their claws to swat the screen which luckily saved the screen rolleyes.gif

Haha sounds like she has dog instincts as they bark at things they do not like to warn them and it sounds like that was what she was doing. She might make a great guard cat yet!! I am glad she is becoming more of a lap cat even if it is only for half an hour at a time. I think sometimes it just takes them time to becoming very relaxed where they are. It has only been the last few weeks that Pixie has really started to come and sit with me everywhere and we have had her, along with her brother, for over a year!

I hope Shelley is having a fun day today.

xxForeverxx

Posted by: DannysMom Oct 31 2012, 01:31 PM

xxForeverxx, thanks for stopping by! smile.gif That is so sweet how Pixie has started to sit with you. When they are "teenagers" (the first year or so) they want to be more independent, so it could be that. When I think of Mindy I think of your Pixie and how similar they look. Shelley loves playing chase with Mindy and will sometimes change direction unexpectedly to confuse Mindy. Shelley is the more sensitive one of the two, and I just love how she often looks up at me in her shy and gentle way as if to say:"Please, please loooove me!" She has amazing light green eyes. It has taken me a bit to get comfortable with cuddling and holding her. At first I was always cautious, because Tina never cared much for being held. But Shelley is really very docile and gentle, a real sweet cat. Here is a recent pic of her and Mindy sitting together.

Once again seeing the photos brings a smile to my face. I need to get my pictures off my phone and upload some on here. Shelley probably knows by now that of course you love her and will give her love.........but she also knows if she shows you those gorgeous eyes she will win you over still every time rolleyes.gif I think it is a good thing that Tina was like she was and Shelley is the opposite. Two completely different characters that both got copious amounts of love. It is a way you can remember Tina without comparing too much to Shelley. Although sometimes I think it is nice sometimes to say oh Ellie does this just like Chewy did as It is a way of remembering him.

I really do look forward to seeing more pictures.

How is Shelley today?

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you're doing, and these WONDERFUL pictures of your precious Mindy and Shelley. They are soooo beautiful, and their eyes and facial expressions show how much they are loved - - they KNOW they are loved!!!

I thank you for the blessing of your friendship, DannysMom, and of your precious Shelley and Mindy. xxForeverxx, thank you for stopping by. I would love to see more pics of Ellie, Pixie and Fudge. They are each one of them sooo cute! smile.gif Shelley is a real sweetheart. In the mornings she has started to come under the covers for a few minutes to snuggle right next to my body and she always purrs so contentedly. She is very loving and likes being picked up for a quick cuddle in my arms. I am becoming very attached to her and love her so much.

moon_beam, thank you for your comments. Yes, Mindy and Shelley are loved very much. My girls mean so much to me and I am so proud of them. I love seeing them play together. A couple of nights ago Shelley and Mindy were wrestling. Shelley pinned Mindy down and Mindy started a low growl. Then Shelley let up and walked away, but Mindy did a surprise attack and jumped on Shelley's back and wrestled her. Shelley quickly got away from Mindy, sat down and let out a heavy sigh as if to say:"Do I really have to put up with this?" She is to patient though. I'm sure she is used to rough play as her three little kittens must have played with her a lot. I wonder if she misses them sometimes. I do hope they all found good homes. Shelley sees how I love rubbing Mindy's tummy and now she sometimes offers me her tummy as well. She loves "talking" to me and repeats sounds back to me. I often find her sitting in the window when I come back from shopping. And she always comes down to greet me at the door, just like Tina did. I find myself watching her nap quite often and I am becoming so fond of her unique coloring. I am growing to love her just as much as I loved my Tina. I am so glad that I found Shelley. She is truly a gift from above.

It just occurred to me that six month ago today was when I first brought Shelley home. I can't believe we've already been together for so long. She was so shy at the beginning. She cried in the car the whole time and I felt so bad. This was a big change for her. She left the home she had known since she was a little kitten. She was so scared. And look at her now! She is very much at home here, love me and Mindy. She is such a wonderful cat! smile.gif

moon_beam, thank you so much for your comment. Shelley is such a sweet cat. Sunday evening she set a new record by snuggling in my arms for 44 whole minutes! smile.gif She fell asleep and enjoyed being supported by my arms. She was so relaxed and comfortable with me, and I really enjoyed our snuggle session. At night she is always the first to hop on the bed and curl up next to me - she is carrying on Tina's "tradition". Shelley also gets anxious like Tina when I have to go out to run an errand. She has such a sweet temperament. I wonder if that's because she is a "mom cat" and had raised her 3 little kittens. I always tell her she's special because she's a mommie cat.

Here she is enjoying a nap. I just love it when cats cover their faces with their paws. smile.gif

Hi DannysMom

What a lovely photo. When I see cats like that it always reminds me of when I wake up in the morning and I do not want to get up so I pull the cover over my face to hide the light! rolleyes.gif

It seems that both your cats are very much at home and loving their lives now. It was always going to happened eventually as they are in a wonderful loving home.

moon_beam and xxForverxx, thank you both for your kind words. Yes, Shelley is definitely very much at home here and knows she is loved! smile.gif I still remember how scared she was when I first brought her home. She didn't know what to expect, and she was so shy and well-behaved, even stayed by herself in one room until Mindy was more used to her. She is a very smart cat, and she TALKS a lot! That's the Siamese in her.

Last night Shelley trumped her previous record of time spend with me in my lap. She stayed with me for 1 hour and 10 minutes! Yeah!!! smile.gif
I was watching an old movie, and she settled happily into my lap, with her body supported by my left arm, and her head rested against my legs that were propped up. Once in a while she stretched a bit and let out a little yawn. And she looked SO content and happy!

She even snuggles with me under the covers in bed, but only for a few minutes at a time. Shelley really loves being held and snuggling with me. I affectionately call her my little 'mama cat' since she had 3 kittens. Shelley puts up with Mindy's antics and rough play.

moon_beam, I too hope that Shelley will spend many happy years with me. I feel so blessed to have her in my life.

My crazy little "mommie cat" decided it would be fun to just curl up in the basket. She seemed so comfy there and did not want to get up. She allowed me to take pictures and gave off happy little meows as if to say:"Look! Aren't I cute?" Shelley does the funniest things. She is such a playful little cat, and she enjoys cuddling with me and being held on my lap.

Dear moon_beam, Shelley is loved indeed. She is such a good little cat, so loving and playful, and very gentle. A wonderful thing happened this morning. As I was leaving I glanced over to the couch and saw that Shelley was lying down on Danny's blanket. She seemed quite content, and I told her that Danny would be honored that she chose his favorite morning spot for a little nap. This is the first time that I have seen her lie down on his blanket.

Mindy and Shelley had a little spat a few minutes ago. I was trying to play with Mindy using a feather teaser when Shelley jumped in and tried to play with it. Mindy's eyes got big and she quickly jumped on Shelley as if to say:"This is MINE! MINE, MINE, MINE!" Shelley let out a shriek and ran off. A few minutes later they were happily playing chase.

Posted by: xxForeverxx Dec 13 2012, 06:40 AM

Hi DannysMom

That photo is wonderful! It is amazing the places they like to lay. Sometimes out of their nice warm bed by the radiator mine just decide to sprawl out over the middle of the floor right where you might tread on them!

What a wonderful time for Shelley to choose to lay on his blanket. Maybe it is her way of bringing him to the festive season. I am sure he would be honoured and so proud of Shelley.

xxForeverxx

Posted by: DannysMom Dec 15 2012, 04:52 PM

xxForeverxx, thank you for your comments! smile.gif I always look forward to hearing from you. I guess maybe sometimes it gets a little too warm by the radiator and they need to cool off a bit. Yours are still young cats as well as mine, and I know Mindy and Shelley don't like it overly warm. Mindy just lays down on the floor most of the time. Shelley sometimes sits on top of the jungle gym.

My "Shell" is such a sweet cat. I think it comes from being a "mom cat" and having raised three kittens. She had an orange tabby, a grey/white one and a little diluted calico girl. I know she must have been a proud mommie. She was trying to lie down next to "sister" Mindy today, and for a few minutes it worked out okay. They were back to back and Shelley was very content, but then Mindy put her back leg on Shelley's back and Shelley let out a little shriek. Soon, they were up and a battle of the paws began, leaving Mindy sitting proudly as the victor as Shelley walked off.

This is where it started.

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you and your precious Shelley and Mindy are doing, and this wonderful picture of your girls at the window. I am chuckling about your precious Shelley walking away from Mindy to avoid a battle. I'm not so sure that your precious Mindy was the "victor." My mom always used to say that the best way to difuse a fight is to walk away from the person who was trying to instigate the fight. From what you have shared with us about your precious Shelley it sounds to me like she knows when to take the high ground and when to stand her ground.

I hope today is treating you and your precious Shelley and Mindy kindly, my friend, and that you and your precious girls will have a very peaceful, blissful, and cozy evening. I thank you for the blessing of your friendship, DannysMom, and of your precious Shelley and Mindy. Dear moon_beam, this time Shelley made the first strike! smile.gif She was already napping on the couch when Mindy decided to join her and to lie down next to her. Shelley didn't like it and she struck Mindy playfully on the nose (just a short swat with the paw). Mindy retaliated and then they just sat there and stared at each other. It was "showdown at the kitty corral" until I intervened and told them that there's room for both on the couch and that they need to get along because it's Christmas. Would you know it, they listened and settled down, both napping sweetly together. smile.gif

Hi DannysMom

How lovely that they listened to you and sat their nicely. I have to admit it brought a little smile to my face to see that photo as after hearing what happened it looks like a photo of two siblings/friends who have been forced by their parents to sit together even though they are not happy about it! as there is that small gap and they are both facing away!

Shows you just how well they are doing at getting along though as if they did not want to then they would not have sat down nicely together at all.

xxForeverxx, when I read your post your thoughts must have echoed across the miles to my "girls". As I turned around I saw them together like this, and I had nothing to do with it this time! smile.gif Of their own accord they chose to share the blanket and sit so close together. They are both intently looking out the window, waiting for something to happen. So, feast your eyes on this! smile.gif

moon_beam, they are snuggled together again today on the blanket by the window. These two really enjoy each other's company and don't mind sharing a window seat. I took pictures again and just sat here and watched them sit next to each other. It gave me this feeling of "All's well". I am so blessed to have Mindy and Shelley in my life and it is a double blessing that they get along so well. I would NEVER have seen Tina and Danny snuggle together on the blanket. Danny would have wanted to, but Tina would have hissed and walked off. She tolerated him snuggling with her until he got so big and took up too much space. Then she wanted nothing more to do with him and rebuffed his further efforts to snuggle next to her.

My girls bring me so much joy by being such good friends. Shelley is the perfect companion for Mindy. They are not jealous of each other as they know they're both loved very much. Last night they both slept with me on the bed, and it felt so good waking up with them and stroking their soft fur.

Shelley still treats Tina's cat chair as "holy ground". She will not let her paws touch the soft cushion and if she has to jump up there to get on the ledge then she will balance herself on one of the arm rests. I can almost imagine Tina swiping an angry paw from the great beyond, defending "her" chair. smile.gif

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you and your precious Mindy and Shelley are doing. I am so very thrilled that your precious girls are bonding nicely together. So many times I hear "a cat is a cat, a dog is a dog, a horse is a horse" - - and so forth. Many people do not accpet the reality that every creature has their own unique personality and behaviors. I see this in the woodland residents, too - - which makes watching the squirrels, birds, and other woodland homesteaders who choose to reveal themselves, so very fascinating to do. You have many treasured memories of your beloved Danny and Tina, and are now on a journey with your precious girls each of them providing you their own very special and unique joys to cherish.

I hope today is treating you and your precious girls kindly, my friend, - - this first day of a new year. May it be the beginning of many good things for you and your precious Mindy and Shelley. I also hope you and your precious girls will have a very peaceful, blissful, and cozy evening blessed with your beloved Danny's and Tina's sweet Living Spirits to comfort you. I thank you for the blessing of your friendship, and of your precious Mindy and Shelley. Hi DannysMom

Wonderful photo. This time it definitely looks like they went their together because they wanted to. You said you sat there ad just watched them.....it is amazing how they can be doing absolutely nothing but we still want to sit and watch. They are fascinating creatures. I often just sit and watch or just lay with them. I am glad you get that feeling of All is well. It shows you just how much of an impact Danny and Tina had in your life as they made you love cats so much that you were able to welcome another two into your life.

I have said to myself today that no matter what I think about what I could have done differently when Chewy was horribly taken away the one thing I do not regret is getting Ellie. I already had Fudge and Pixie but I felt there was something missing for them two as well as myself and Ellie filled the spot perfectly. I also do believe that my special boy Chewy helped me find her and I am sure Mindy and Shelley were led to you by Danny and Tina too.

xxForeverxx,

it give me a sense of peace to watch Mindy and Shelley nap or see them looking out the window. It is just very calming. I used to take little naps with Danny. He spent so much time in my bedroom, lounging on the bed. Mindy and Shelley are always with me in the same room, and Shelley LOVES to cuddle! She enjoys it so much when I hold her in my arms and sometimes she makes sounds like a little baby being comfortable in her mother's arms. She is very sweet, and she even likes getting her tummy rubbed which Tina did not like at all.

I've always loved cats. I like dogs, too, but I just adore cats. My parents though are "dog people" so we never had a cat in the house. I am glad that Ellie brings you so much joy and I'm sure it's interesting to watch how she interacts with Fudge and Pixie. I knew I wanted a tux cat, but I didn't think it would be a "girl". I think it worked out quite well that way, though. That way she doesn't remind me too much of Danny as the gender is different. Tomorrow it will be 1 year since the day I brought Mindy home. I was so happy when I picked her up at the SPCA, just couldn't wait to bring this little kitty girl home with me.

Shelley is quite the talker, and that's because she is part Siamese. I love all the different sounds she makes. Mindy talks mostly in little "screeches" and has a quieter voice than Shelley.

Posted by: DannysMom Jan 20 2013, 10:59 AM

Yesterday morning I woke up with Shelley and Mindy snuggled next to me. They were side by side, their bodies close together and Mindy has her paw draped over Shelley's body. There just is no better way to wake up than to have my girls with me like this! smile.gif They are such good friends, and I so enjoy seeing them together. Shelley and I had some good cuddles yesterday as well. She loves being held and placing her paws on my arm.

Mindy and Shelley played a good game of chase last night, with Mindy "cornering" Shelley and trying to anticipate her next move. Danny used to do the same thing with Tina, and Tina always got upset, but not Shelley. It's too bad the weekends always go by so quickly. Before I know it Monday comes around. I just love spending time with my girls and watching them play.

Hi DannysMom

I know how you feel about the weekends going to quickly....I am quite lucky at the moment as I am on maternity I have spent hours and hours with my three. I bet you would spend every second of the day with Shelley and Mindy if you could rolleyes.gif

Once again along with that photo of Shelley and Mindy sitting by the window together it is great to see their relationship blossoming. And how lovely that Mindy had he paw over Shelley. I bet they looked so gorgeous and peaceful together.

I was glad Ellie was a girl as She reminded me so much of Chewy with the markings I do not feel like I replaced him by having a female I feel like I am remembering him more by getting another cat that looked like him. If that makes sense! A bit like you saying about Mindy being female.

How is Shelley today?

xxForeverxx

Posted by: DannysMom Jan 26 2013, 01:40 PM

moon_beam and xxForeverxx, thanks for sharing my sweet Shelley with me. She has been cuddling with me quite a bit this week. When I come home at night she just loves to cuddle in my arms and take a nap. She is so loving and gentle, really the perfect friend for Mindy. Shelley is almost the opposite of my feisty Tina who wasn't afraid of anything and truly had "cali-tude".

xxForeverxx, that is great that you get to spend so much time with your fur tribe right now. I bet they enjoy that so much! I wonder how they will react to your baby. I had a cat once when we were living in Europe and he would sometimes sneak on top of the garage and then on to the neighbor's balcony, through the balcony door and take a nap in their baby's crib while the baby was not there though. The neighbors were quite surprised to find this big tabby in their daughter's bed, but they had a good laugh about it.

Shelley is always the first one to jump on the bed when I go lie down at night. Last night Mindy came aboard as well and before settling down she gave Shelley and extensive "bath".

xxForeverxx, your Ellie is a beautiful cat. They say that when people bring a new cat home they avoid getting a look-alike cat or at least one that's a different gender. I had wanted another Tux boy, but I'm quite happy that Mindy is a girl and has golden eyes instead of green eyes. But it is nice to see the familiar black and white Tux markings and so I have something to remind me of Danny. With Shelley I didn't have a choice in the gender as Calicos are pretty much always female, but Shelley's face is very different from Tina's face.

I took this picture of Shelley a few days ago, and it almost looks like she is saying a prayer.

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you and your precious Shelley, and Mindy, are doing, and for this newest wonderful picture of your precious Shelley. I am so smiling at your thoughts about her "praying." Whenever I say a prayer outloud, my precious stops whatever he is doing and bows his head with me. It is so special.

It is always a privilege and a pleasure sharing your precious Shelley with you. It is very obvious that you are devoted to one another, and I know how much joy this brings to you both. I hope today is treating you and your precious girls kindly, my friend, and that you and your precious Shelley and Mindy will have a very peaceful, blissful, and cozy evening blessed with your beloved Danny's and Tina's sweet Living Spirits to comfort you. Hi DannysMom

Lovely Picture of Shelley. She looks like she is about to lay down as she is falling asleep rolleyes.gif or now I see it her saying a prayer! I definitely think that is what she is doing!

That is funny about the cat in the crib! Fudge jumped in our cot the other day without me realising when I was sorting the last few things out and I only noticed when he decided to start chasing his tail in the cot!
,
I still love hearing of the bond that continues developing between your Shelley and Mindy. I bet Shelley, as she is so loving and gentle, loves to be licked my Mindy and sits or lays patiently letting her.

I did not realise that Calico's are usually female. It is true what they say about learning something new everyday! I think it is a nice tribute to Tina though as it shows what an impact she made on your life and the good thing is Shelley has a different personality so there is no chance of accidentally comparing.

xxForeverxx, that is funny about Funny jumping in your cat and chasing his tail! Mindy recently chased her tail, but she can never catch it as it is a bit short! Last night Shelley and I had some cuddles while I was watching movies to relax. She loves falling asleep in my arms and stretching out her legs and she enjoys touching my arm with her paws. She is a very loving and gentle little cat. After a good cuddle she made some excited noises, walked over to Mindy and laid down in front of her to get a bath! Mindy happily obliged and Shelley just laid there and enjoyed it! smile.gif They were chasing each other across the bed this morning while I was trying to sleep in a bit. They always get so rambunctious on Saturday mornings. Shelley sits with me in the bathroom every weekday morning when I put on my make-up to get ready for work. She doesn't want me to leave.

Mindy and Shelley still avoid the cat chair like it has the plague. The carefully step around the cushion and step only on the arm rests, never the cushion. It is so strange.

Miss Shelley really showed off her ball playing skills last night. She was bored and grabbed a soft little toy ball from one of the toy baskets. She chased and batted at it in the kitchen, batting it from corner to corner, and then she pawed and batted it in the living room. At one time she even put it in her mouth and walked off with it. That reminded me so much of my Tina and how she used to prance around with her little crinkle ball in her mouth. She just LOVED that crinkle ball toy and she was very protective of it. Shelley is very good about sharing. She is so easy to get along with and is such a good friend to both Mindy and me. Sometimes she plays chase with Mindy in the morning. She is a very sweet cat, loves to lick my hand when I hold her in my arms. She just has a sweet, easy-going and fun-loving personality.

Hi DannysMom

I wonder whether they will ever sit on the chair as I generally believe they leave it out of respect. They know it is a special place that they do not want to sit at.

It is great seeing them run round playing with balls etc isn't it. Fudge has a really small toy dog that he does exactly the same with that your Shelley does with the crinkle ball. Sometimes he gets so excited chasing after it he ends up running into a door though!

I still would have though that it would be Shelley having to lick Mindy as Mindy was there first but that just shows you how caring Mindy is as she is happy to clean her friend who came into the household after her rolleyes.gif What a wonderful pair.

xxForeverxx

xxForeverxx, I think you're right about the chair. They may either wait until 1 year has passed or they may never sit in it. It just grieves me that the chair sits empty. When Tina was still here Mindy used to sit in it at times. It has a thermal cushion in it that keeps their little bodies warm. Shelley has put on quite a bit of weight. She loves to eat and is always hungry. And she'll come to me and sit there and cry until I feed her, but I only give her a little bit at a time. Shelley has been going crazy on the jungle gym this morning, scratching on the posts and playing with the sisal rope. Both of my girls seem to always gets real frisky on the weekends, because they have me home with them. Shelley is more impatient than Mindy and she sometimes gives off a heavy sigh as if to say:"Why don't you get it?"

I found out my friends took in a stray cat and she had five little kittens recently. One of them is a calico, two are orange/white, one is orange, and the other one a tabby. I think that brings them close to 20 cats, but they take good care of them. It breaks my heart when people leave their animals behind when the move or just throw them out like they're a piece of furniture. I wished I could have taken Shelley's orange kitten, but I'm only allowed two cats where I live. I sometimes wonder if she misses her kittens. She must have been such a good little mommie cat.

Here is Shelley going crazy on the jungle gym.

There is no doubt she is a very happy girl!! And you are so right when you share with us: "Both of my girls seem to always gets real frisky on the weekends, because they have me home with them."

I am chuckling about your observation of your precious Shelley: "Shelley is more impatient than Mindy and she sometimes gives off a heavy sigh as if to say:"Why don't you get it?"" Ah yes, if only we could talk with our precious furkids in a common language - - it would idealistically make their lives, and ours as their caregivers, much easier!!

Moon_beam, thanks for stopping by and sharing my Shelley with me. She is a very sweet cat, gentle and loving, and the good thing is that she loves me and Mindy equally and is always willing to snuggle with Mindy. We are a happy little family. I love cuddling Shelley, and we had such a good cuddle last night when she feel asleep in my arms. It helps me relax after work and it just feels so good holding her in my arms and watching her fall asleep. Today, after I came home from running errands, Shelley came downstairs to greet me and laid down on the steps and enjoyed being petted. That was so sweet! smile.gif I mistakenly got up at 8 this morning, because with my sleepy eyes it looked like it was 9:00 a.m. I was dismayed when I found out, but I was already up so I made breakfast. I like to sleep in a bit on the weekends as I'm not a morning person, but my girls got a bit impatient this morning and wanted to be fed. They just go nuts over the canned food, and Shelley always meows impatiently when I get it ready for them. She sits with me in the bathroom when I go put on my make-up for work, and sometimes she meows impatiently for me to get out of the shower already. Shelley has such a cute face, with such interesting and funny markings. She brings me much joy.

I hope you and your precious girls were able to enjoy some extra sleep in time this morning.

Miss Shelley was racing around like a maniac this morning, chasing after her pink soccer sponge ball. She just LOVES to run! It doesn't really matter to her if she catches the ball or not, she just wants to run and chase. This afternoon I watched Mindy and Shelley playing a good game of chase. Shelley chased Mindy to the little kitty perch by the front windows where Mindy would quickly jump on top of the perch and tease Shelley with her paws. Then the game began again in reverse, Mindy chasing Shelley into the bedroom. And so they played for a while, and I had a good laugh watching their crazy antics. I had always wished to see Danny and Tina play so happily together, and now I'm getting my wish fulfilled with Mindy and Shelley. They are such good friends, and I love seeing them together.

My girls enjoyed some balcony time earlier. Shelley always loves going out there. She reminds me of Tina, who also enjoyed the outdoors. Last night Shelley and I had a really nice cuddle while I watched a movie. She stretched happily in my arms and looked up at me with adoring eyes. Then she licked my hand. I love this sweet and gentle "mommie cat" who has been with me 11 months now. She is a real treasure, and I'm so glad that she is with us.

Hi DannysMom

I think maybe Tina and Danny have maybe sent a message to Mindy and Shelley to make the most of their time together and play smile.gif she sounds like a real diamond. Its great that you are so glad she is with you. Has it been almost a year already? Time really does go quick.

Have they still been laying together a lot?

xxForeverxx

Posted by: DannysMom May 5 2013, 02:56 PM

xxForeverxx, you are so right...a year does go by quickly. Next Saturday Shelley will be with me for a year and she has an appointment to update her rabies shot. She and Mindy still nap together, but mostly when they both sleep with me at night. This morning Shelley tried to jump on Mindy and wanted to wrestle, but Mindy hissed at her and so she backed off and laid down away from Mindy. I guess they have their little spats once in a while, when one isn't quite in the mood to play, but that's normal. They get along fine otherwise. Mindy still likes to groom Shelley, and Shelley loves to cuddle in my arms. One time she affectionately grabbed my hand with both front paws and just licked my hand. She also likes tummy rubs which Tina never tolerated. She hated having her tummy touched.

Posted by: DannysMom May 8 2013, 06:59 PM

Shelley gave me quite a scare this morning. I went to pet her good-bye and head off to work when I noticed that she was having a discharge from her right eye and she was squinting and could not open the eye. I rushed her off to the vet where they examined her and put a stain in her eye to look for damage. Thankfully there was no damage to her cornea and no ulcers. My vet thought something might have gotten into her eye and irritated it. They flushed her eye with saline and put eye drops in it which I am supposed to give her a few times a day. The vet tech was so kind to show me how best to put a drop in her eye and Shelley complied without a fuss. Of course tonight was a different story. When I came home and tried to put a drop in her eye she struggled a bit and closed her eye, so I had to try a second time. Her eye looks better now. She keeps it open and doesn't squint. My vet showed me how her third eyelid was really swollen this morning. Poor Shelley.

She is quite sensitive cat. Some heavy rain tonight caused her to run for the bedroom, tail tucked under and crouching low, just like Danny always did when we had a thunderstorm. And it hadn't even thundered yet, just raining heavy. But Shelley was scared. Mindy just gave her a surprised look. Thank goodness Miss Mindy isn't bothered by the weather. I tried to comfort Shelley and cuddled her in my arms, but she ran off into the bedroom. Sigh! I love this little cat, but I so miss Tina's feisty and fearless spirit.

How funny that the roles seem reversed...now I have a fairly brave Tux, but a scared Calico. Mindy just has this quiet determination and patience.

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you and your precious Shelley are doing. I'm so glad you were able to get her to the vet so quickly so that she could have her eye looked at and taken care of. I hope your supervisor was not upset with you for being late to work. I hope her eye is feeling much better today and continues to improve. Please let us know how she's doing.

Storms can be so frightening for sure, even heavy rains. Could it be that she had to survive the elements before she was rescued? I'm hoping that your tender love and Mindy's confidence will eventually be able to give your precious Shelley reassurance that everything is okay when storms pass by.

I hope today is treating you and your precious Shelley and Mindy kindly, my friend, and that you and your precious girls will have a peaceful evening blessed with your beloved Tina's and Danny's sweet Living Spirits to comfort you. I thank you for the blessing of your friendship, DannysMom, and of your precious girls. moon_beam and Tom's Dad, thanks for caring about Shelley. She is doing much better and her eye seems to be back to normal, however my vet wants me to continue giving her drops for 10 days. I think I'll have to get another bottle as this one is so small and I keep missing when I try to put the drops in her eye. It's not easy doing this, but Shelley is very cooperative. She does close her eye, but usually the drop lands on the lower eyelid and seeps into her eye. She is so gentle and patient about this. I always tell her she's a good girl and that the drops are necessary. Shelley struggled a bit last night, so Mindy looked at us real concerned and meowed. She cares so much for her adopted kitty sister. I told Mindy it was okay and she seemed to understand. Tina would have gone crazy had I ever tried to put drops in her eyes. She did need eye ointment one time and I had to get a friend to help me with her. She was almost impossible to medicate. I'm glad Mindy and Shelley are much easier in that regard.

Thanks for inquiring about getting to work late. I should have mentioned that I called my supervisor before I took Shelley to the vet and he said it was no problem. I have just about the best supervisor you can have. He is really nice to work for and I consider myself very blessed in that regard.

I know very little about Shelley's background, only that her previous human got her when she was 8 weeks old. Shelley is just a very sensitive and gentle cat. I remember how freaked out she was when I first saw her. She seemed to sense that I had come to take her away and she cried out in panic and clung to her human's neck. I was so shocked and felt so bad for her. I held her and told her it was okay. Still, she cried all the way home in the car, and she quickly hid between the couch and one of the end tables after Mindy hissed at her. She stayed there for hours and only came out during the middle of the night, walking around meowing.

This is Shelley nursing her three kittens. One of them is a dilute calico, one an orange tabby, and then there's the gray one.

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how your precious Shelley and you, and Mindy, are doing. Eye drops can be very tricky indeed. I'm glad her eye is looking better already - - which means that it is feeling better, too. How precious of Mindy to inquire about Shelley - - "hey, mom - - what's going on here? Is Shelley going to be okay?" Both of your precious girls are blessed to have you for their Forever Mom.

I'm glad to know that you did not have any problems from your supervisor yesterday. I am soooo glad this job is working out for you, my friend.

Thank you so much for sharing with us this sweet picture of your precious Shelley with her babies. They are soooo cute.

Happy 1-year anniversary, Shelley! smile.gif It was one year ago today that I brought this sweet little cat home. She was so scared at first, and voluntarily kept to herself in the bedroom where I put her food and water. A week later, Mindy and Shelley slowly made friends. Shelley was in heat at the time and she affectionately rubbed her cheek against Mindy who was quite surprised by this display of affection. I remember how Mindy loved grooming Shelley and how she enjoyed wrestling with her so much when they made friends. At the time, in my grief, I wasn't able to understand how hard it was for Shelley too. She had to adjust to a new home and a new kitty friend. When she would look up at me with those big, gentle green eyes something stirred in my heart. It was as if she was pleading with me to be patient with her as all this was new to her too. After a few months she would hop in my lap for a cuddle, only staying a few minutes. And then, staying longer in my arms each time, falling asleep. Shelley is a very gentle and playful cat. She is smart and affectionate and a real talker. She makes me laugh when she chases after a sponge ball and runs in the wrong direction. She just wants to run! I am so glad I met her and brought her home. I couldn't have found a better friend for me or Mindy. She is just a wonderful cat, and she seems to understand so much.

Moon_beam, thank you for your comments. I'm getting better with placing the eye drop right the first time. I have to make sure I tilt up Shelley's head enough so that the drop can fall right in. The vet tech made it all look so easy, but they do that every day.

Hi, DannysMom, thank you so much for sharing with us how you and your precious Shelley, and Mindy, are doing - - and for sharing your one year anniversary of Shelley joining your household. Shelley is blessed to have found a Forever Home with you and her big sister Mindy.

I'm glad the eye drops are going easier. Yeah - - the veterinary care providers do make everything look so easy - - while we find ourselves fumbling and struggling with the med dispensing at home. I really think there should be a "visitng nurse" service for furchild caregivers who can help us with our precious companion's home health needs if we need it.

I hope today is treating you and your precious Shelley and Mindy kindly, my friend, and that you and your precious girls will have a peaceful evening blessed with your beloved Tina's and Danny's sweet Living Spirits to comfort you. Thanks, moon_beam. Yeah, it would be nice to have some kind of a "visiting nurse" to help, but I managed and Shelley's eye is fine now. I'm so glad this sweet little cat is better. Lately I'm looking at her and I'm just becoming soooo attached to her and I just have to smile every time I see her. She is a wonderful cat, so gentle and loving. Today she crawled into the new cat bed and figured out that she can cover herself and have a good snooze inside! smile.gif Shelley likes to grab my feet in the morning when I move, and yesterday she "helped" again in making the bed as has become her custom. She loves fresh new sheets and she tries to grab the sheet when I tuck in the corners. Mindy and Shelley had so much fun playing chase this morning. I love seeing my girls so happy together. It always bothered me how Tina wasn't very fond of Danny, so I'm very happy to see how Mindy and Shelley have become such good friends.

Hello DannysMom

Glad to hear Shelley is doing better. I love that picture. Her grabbing at you reminds me of Tang either swatting me or hooking his front paw to grab me as I'm walking by or away. As if to say "You have not been dismissed" I'm glad she and Mindy get along so well. I wish my kids did. But it's probably that they are different genders. I hope they have many happy, playful years with you and each other. Take care.

Hi DannysMom

I am sorry to hear that Shelley has had a poorly eye. Sounds like she is getting better though and has dealt with it like a brave little girl. What a wonderful cat she is. What a lovely photo of her in the bed you brought. She looks so comfortable!

Her markings really are amazing with the mix of white, ginger and black.

I know what you mean about them having just little spats every now and again. Fudge and Ellie love to play fight but only occasionally you will here a small yelp where one of them has obviously got a little carried away. They are never hurt though.

Wow a year already! I hope she had a lovely being with you birthday rolleyes.gif

It is lovely to see a friendship between cats especially when to start with you introduce them and (like fudge, pixie and ellie) they do not get along very well but then over the weeks and months you just see it blossom ad they slowly accept each other and really start to love each other. I remember you saying at the start Mindy was a bit unsure of Shelley but now she has done so well to accept her and now they are great friends rolleyes.gif

How is Shelley today DannysMom?

xxForeverxx

Tom's Dad, thanks for stopping by. That is so funny of Tang to grab you when you're walking by. It reminds me of Tina. I know what it's like when fur kids don't get along so well. Tina was always so jealous of Danny. I had her for three years before I brought Danny home, so maybe that's why. She always saw him as an "intruder". I'm so glad Shelley is gentle and mild-mannered.

Moon_beam, thanks for stopping by. My girls and I had a nice Memorial Day together, but as usual the weekend went by much too quickly.

xxForeverxx, thanks for your comments and your kind words. Shelley is such a sweetheart. When I come home she wants to be fed right away, but then she leaves her food dish and joins me in the bedroom as I change into something more comfortable. She'll sit on the bed and wants to be petted. She loves getting attention. Shelley's birthday is not until tomorrow, but my vet had already sent an e-card. I know it must make you so happy that Ellie is getting along with Fudge and Pixie. How sweet of her to play with Fudge. smile.gif And I know what you mean about the occasional yelp. Sometimes Shelley and Mindy get carried away. Mindy hates it when Shelley gets too rough which really happens less often than Mindy being a bit rough.

Shelley is doing fine today. I had a little experiment the other night, and it turns out Shelley likes soft rock and old style R&B. She laid down with me and started purring when I played "Midnight Train to Georgia" by Gladys Knight and then Dionne Warwick, Mary J Blige and Toni Braxton. But she started play biting me and getting a bit restless when I played Guns 'n Roses "Knocking on Heaven's Door" and jumped off my lap when I started singing along. Lol! I usually play classical music for the girls, because it's so soothing and relaxing after a long day at work, but I also enjoy other music, mostly the British bands from the 80s...Dire Straits, Duran Duran, U2, etc. I also like Coldplay.

It is so hot here today...in the upper 80s. It feels like the middle of summer already. And of course today is the start of the dreaded hurricane season.

Happy Birthday, Shelley! smile.gif She is 2 years old today and she is having lots of fun chasing "sister" Mindy. Shelley started protesting loudly around 8 a.m., trying to wake me up to get her food, so I got up. But it was nice having an early Sunday morning out on the balcony for a while, catching some sun. I had to take her to the vet today for her distemper shot. Of course she panicked and tried to get out of my arms when she saw the carrier. She cried all the way down to the vet (I'm glad it's a short drive). But she did really well and was comforted by a very nice vet tech who loves calico cats and was telling me about her calico she had for 18 years. She comforted Shelley as she took her in the back to get weighed. Her weight hasn't changed from the last time. It is still at 10 pounds. Whew! I breathed a sigh of relief. It look as if my strategy is working. I'm still feeding her a bit of the Castor & Pollux, but they'll be weaned off it as I'm mixing in Orijen. Shelley doesn't care too much for the Orijen food, but it is helping her with weight control as is feeding them only canned food in the morning. I am so glad. Keeping their weight down is my biggest concern. My vet said to keep doing what I'm doing and he was also encouraged by the fact that Shelley hasn't gained any weight since last time. She was quiet on the way home and soooo glad to go back home! Mindy was very glad to see her "sister", but a bit put off by the strange smell on Shelley.

It is so amazing how attached I've become to Shelley. I LOVE this little cat. Sure, she drives me crazy in the morning when she is so impatiently begging for the canned food, but she is such a sweet cat, so gentle and loving. She enjoys being petted and getting lots of attention. She often rolls around on the floor, showing her tummy, and she likes it when I gently rub her tummy. Tina couldn't stand having her tummy touched. Shelley has the most beautiful light green eyes. They are so full of love and gentleness. I look into those eyes and it makes my heart melt. I know everyone is different, but I think Shelley's story could encourage others who have lost a beloved fur kid that, yes, it is possible to love again so deeply and with all your heart, but it takes time to develop a new relationship and it will grow over time and blossom. I am so glad I re-homed this sweet kitty.

Miss Shelley is a real sweetie! We've had lots of cuddles this weekend. Just this afternoon she settled happily into my arms and dozed off as I was watching the last hour of "The Maltese Falcon". Every once in a while she stretched and gave off a happy little moan. She so loves attention and enjoys getting tummy rubs. I was snapping pictures of Mindy hiding in a paper bag yesterday while Shelley was napping on a cushion nearby. As I was taking pictures Shelley made little noises as if to say:"Me too, mom!" So I took some pictures of her as well and she seemed to "pose" for me, looking happily into the camera. I love her beautiful, big green eyes! smile.gif

Shelley and Mindy are always busy late at night, sitting down by the door to keep the bugs out. Just a few nights ago I saw Shelley watching the left side of the door while Mindy was watching the other side. The bugs are simply no match for these two smart little kitty girls!

moon_beam, thank you for sharing my beautiful Shelley with me. She is such a gentle cat and loves cuddles. But she is not crazy about having her nails trimmed. This month's nail trimming session was quite a stressful one. I trimmed Mindy's nails first and while I had her in my lap, sitting on the floor, Shelley came by and sniffed on her. It is quite difficult trimming Mindy's extra toe nails as those toes sit higher up on her paw and are difficult to get to. I clipped off a bit of fur along with the nail by accident and Mindy gave off a muted shriek. But at least it was done. Then I tried to grab Shelley, but she knew what I was up to and ran off so I had to grab her again. And she was not pleased. Shelley struggled in my arms while I trimmed her nails and got quite annoyed. Sigh! It really takes two people to do this. I could take them to the vet, but that adds extra stress as they don't like to go there. Hopefully next month's nail trimming session will go smoother.

Hello Dannymon

Just stopping in to say I so understand your issues with the nail trimming. Tang tore me up pretty good the last time. But that's the probalem sometimes in rescuing a stray; you just never know what they went through before. I hope today has been kind to you and both your girls. Take Care.

Tom's Dad, thanks for stopping by and sharing. Poor Tang...he reminds me of Tina. She must have had a bad nail trimming experience at the vet once, after that I could not trim her nails. She would withdraw her paw in panic any time the nail clipper came near her. Danny was always good about getting his nails trimmed, but he was hard to manage since he was such a big kitty boy. It really does take two people! Sigh!

But...my girls may squirm and growl a bit, but they haven't torn me up. They're both very gentle, and I hope they stay that way. Mindy is a bit more patient than Shelley. They are both well. Yesterday I slept in a bit. Mindy snuggled against my back and Shelley snuggled up against my legs. I love having them close like that! smile.gif

Posted by: DannysMom Jul 3 2013, 01:49 PM

Miss Shelley is also glad to have me home this week. She was hiding under my desk again yesterday evening when some storms came through. There is a little shelf on the bottom where I store software that she hides under, just wide enough for a kitty to be comfortable. Shelley is simply adorable. She laid down next to Mindy on the floor, back to back, as I was petting Mindy, and for a minute they were quite content to lay there together like this. Then Mindy got up and put her paws around Shelley's neck and gave her a play bite. Shelley then did the same to Mindy, and as she was trying to walk away Mindy grabbed her hind leg as if to say:"Come on, sis', let's play some more!' Shelley just gave her this stern, motherly look. Right now Miss Shelley is happily snoozing inside the hooded cat bed. She loves climbing in there and being covered by the hood.

Sometimes she sits in front of me, with her head slightly to the side, and she looks up at me with those big green eyes and she seems so have such a coquettish look on her face as if she is saying:"I'm so cute. Just love me!" She has such an interesting, colorful face. Last night she went on "bug watch" with Mindy. It seems to be their favorite activity at night.

Tom's Dad and moon_beam, thanks for stopping by. Yes, Shelley does look like she's going to say the Pledge of Allegiance! laugh.gif She is a real sweetie. I catch her every once in a while sitting on my dresser and looking in the mirror, admiring her pretty face no doubt. The other day I was sitting out on the balcony reading a book and Shelley joined me. I was so surprised to find her sitting under my chair. Tina used to do the same thing. Looking at that colorful little calico tail sticking out from under the chair reminded me so much of my Tina. Shelley has been so good to me. I love this little cat. I read an article today about how dogfighting punks get cats and dogs from craigslist and how they pose with perfect references (from their dog-fighting buddies) and make it sound like they're gonna give your fur kid a good home. Someone said that no responsible pet parent should list their fur kid on craigslist because no legitimate people will apply as they can go to a shelter and adopt there. I think that's not quite true. I could have gone to a shelter, but I was looking for a specific cat and one that was the same age as Mindy. I remember how terribly frightened Shelley was when she first saw me. I'm so glad that I found her and not one of the dog-fighting punks or some that get cats to feed them to their disgusting snakes. Shelley is such a sensitive little cat, and so very loving. She always licks my hand when I hold her and cuddle her. She is the perfect friend for me and Mindy, and I am so glad that she likes Mindy so much.

I almost forgot to mention that Shelley "helped" me make the bed yesterday. She loves it when I put fresh sheets on the bed, and she was hiding under the top sheet. I gently "grabbed" her little body under the sheets, and she squeaked in delight. That reminded me so much of my little Twinkie who also enjoyed hiding in the fresh sheets and who made the same noises when I would grab her little body. Shelley is so funny and a very gentle cat. I can't say enough times that I LOVE her! wub.gif

Hi DannysMom

Sorry it as been a while.

I love the photo from the 4th of July. I agree she does look like she is going to say the pledge of Allegiance! How funny laugh.gif

Wow I am so jealous of you having a cat that helps make the bed wink.gif Considering mine spend more time on the bed than me I think they should learn to do that! Maybe you can ship Shelley over here for a week to teach them happy.gif

That just shows you how good a mummy you are to your babies as she was once frightened little girl and now she has confidence and loves you to pieces.

I am disgusted to hear about those people you talk about who get animals to feed to their snakes etc I really do not understand some people out there and how they can think like that!

How are you and Shelley today?

xxForeverxx

Posted by: DannysMom Jul 20 2013, 11:47 AM

Hello xxForeverxx, it's always good to hear from you! Shelley is doing just fine today, but I do worry about her darting in front of me lots of times. She seems to come out of nowhere and then runs into my legs. We have "bumped" into each other a few times, nothing serious, but I still worry about her. Sometimes when she needs to burn off excess energy she runs around like crazy and climbs up the jungle gym and meows. She watches movies with me, but she doesn't sit on my lap. Shelley sits on top of the couch to the left of me where she has an unobstructed view of the TV.

Shelley often plops herself down and wants to have her tummy rubbed. She is such a gentle cat, very loving.

Posted by: Tom's Dad Jul 21 2013, 05:48 PM

Hello DannysMom.

I hear you on the "darting" Tang does that too, like a silent ninja. BTW, never ASK a cat if they are a ninja. They will just look at you as if to say "ALL cats are ninjas" Hope you are all doing well today.

TTT

Posted by: DannysMom Aug 3 2013, 12:26 PM

Tom's Dad, thanks for the laugh! I think Shelley is more of a "nervous Nellie" though than a ninja. She likes to burn off excess energy and will happily chase sponge balls and run past them most of the time because she couldn't stop herself in time! laugh.gif She is a sweetheart and she has been my support group while Mindy has been sick. Shelley is always around me and close to me, delighting me with her chirps and squawks. She is such a talker! I have come to love this little cat so much. And I didn't think that would be possible when I first brought her home as my heart was so filled with grief. But grief is not meant to stay. There is a time for grief and a time to be happy again.

Shelley is such a sweet, gentle and loving cat, always licking my hand and showering me with affection and wanting to be petted. When I come home she greets me at the door and then when we're upstairs she lies down and rolls over on her back and stretches as if to say:"Ah! Mom's home!" She is a true gem, a very special and loving cat. And I do so appreciate her gentleness as my Tina loved giving me play bites which often times left teeth marks on my skin! And Shelley is soooo cute! I love the pretty markings on her legs and paws. She is so colorful.

Hello DannysMom

Thank you for sharing Shelley's "antics" with us. It all sounds adorable, especially the "squawking" Tang does that too; sounds like large bird of prey. I'm glad she has made herself a happy home there with you and Mindy. I know what you mean about Shelly being a rock for you while Mindy is not feeling well. Theresa was that for me a few years back. I hope you are all well today. Take care.

Tom's Dad, thanks for sharing my Shelley with me. She sure is precious and so full of love. Yesterday evening we had a great little cuddle where she fell asleep in my arms while I was watching a movie. I didn't sleep good last night and woke up a few times. Didn't hear the alarm go off this morning and got in 40 minutes late! ohmy.gif ohmy.gif But nobody said anything and I stayed late to make up the time. I was so glad to see my little welcoming committee when I opened the door. Shelley, as usual, was at the door, meowing loudly. Mindy, as usual, laid down at the top of the stairs, looking incredibly bored, as if to say:"Yeah, yeah, big deal." I had to go out again to pick up some groceries and grabbed some sweet cherries at Kroger. They should help me sleep better. After I got back from Kroger Mindy and Shelley were both at the door. Mindy has been playing with one of those little strips from the Netflix envelopes. First, she swatted it, and then she tried to eat it, so I took it away from her. Cats! laugh.gif

Posted by: DannysMom Aug 17 2013, 04:45 PM

I'm so glad I bought two cat beds. Shelley is napping on the brown-plaid bed, and Mindy is napping on the blue-plaid bed. They both wanted their own space this afternoon. Shelley got booted off the window sill by Mindy this morning as Mindy gently kicked her with one of her hind legs as if to say:"Get off my window sill! How dare you!" Shelley just jumped down without a fight. She is such an agreeable and gentle cat. Sometimes though she'll ignore Mindy's kicks and pecks when she is sitting in the window. I guess it depends on her mood. Shelley has such incredible green eyes and she always looks at me with such love and gentleness. I just can't understand why some people have to be so mean to cats. They throw little kittens out of a moving car, tape them up in a box and throw them in a dumpster, and worse. How can you look into those sweet little faces and do such things?

When Shelley looks at me I can just tell how thankful she is that I brought her home. She knows she has it so good here. When she cuddles with me in my arms she purrs so loud and it is so comforting to me.

Posted by: DannysMom Aug 27 2013, 08:12 PM

Tonight I witnessed something very heartwarming. When I came home tonight and walked upstairs Shelley walked up to Mindy and received a little dose of grooming. She really liked it, so she laid down and stretched out her body and leaned her head close to Mindy to get some more kitty lovin'. Mindy patiently groomed Shelley, her head, her ears, and her neck, all those places that are so hard to reach for a kitty. I could see the delight on Shelley's face as she received this loving grooming from her little kitty sister. This morning they ate nose to nose from their big shared bowl in which I put the wet food, one half of the dish gets the "Paw Lickin Chicken" and the other half gets the Ultramix that Shelley eats. Shelley joined me in the bathroom again and she looked at me as if to say:"Do you REALLY have to leave for work?"

So I'm looking forward to a nice 3-day weekend...smile.gif

Tom's Dad and moon_beam, thanks for stopping by and sharing my Shelley with me. I needed to come home for lunch today, and the girls were so surprised to see me, like "Mom, what are you doing home already?" As I was getting busy in the kitchen trying to put something in the microwave real quick Mindy sat quietly in front of Shelley's food bowl and just stared at it. Shelley sat down next to her and also stared at the food bowl. It was empty. They got a good portion this morning, but I guess they felt that if I eat something maybe they'll get something too. It really touched my heart how they both sat quietly by Shelley's bowl, not making a sound, just being so well behaved and polite, like "may we please have just a bit of food?" Of course I put a few morsels in there. It seems Shelley was more hungry than Mindy. I still can't get that picture out of my mind though, how they sat there so quietly, just looking at the bowl. They both got real sad when I had to leave again and just looked at me as I was walking downstairs. I felt so bad. Mindy and Shelley are really special. I don't know what they'd do if I decided to go on vacation again. I'm sure Shelley would be more upset than Mindy. But I don't have any money right now anyway.

Hello Tom's Dad, thanks for stopping by. I'm off work today, but it hasn't been all quiet. I don't know why they always have to mow on a holiday. Mindy and I were sitting outside enjoying some balcony time earlier, but she quickly left when the guy with the edge tool came by. Now it's nice and quiet, but I went back inside with Mindy when I saw the guy with the pesticide tank spraying down below. No need for us to breathe in this toxic stuff! So, I'll probably get some lunch ready (leftovers from yesterday) and relax a bit more. Need to go to Kroger later and grab a few things. I hope your work day goes by quickly and that you won't have to wait too long for the bus back home.

My girls must have had lots of fun last night. I found my swivel chair turned around and a magazine rack out of place, but lo and behold there was Shelley's long lost pink soccer sponge ball! I had been looking for it for quite some time, and she found it. Shelley likes to jump behind the big speakers and then the only way out is to walk behind the book case and hop over the magazine racks. Tina always jumped behind the speakers too. Cats! laugh.gif I often wonder what kind of "kitty adventures" Mindy and Shelley have at night. Yesterday morning Shelley was clamoring for her cat food as usual, putting on her "I'm starving!!!" act. That annoyed Mindy and she did some quick kung-fu moves with her front legs while standing up on her hind legs. But Shelley also showed off her kung-fu moves and so they batted each other's paws. Shelley always gets so vocal when she wants her food, and if I ignore her she "huffs", sitting there looking at me with a face that says "I am not amused!" and then she lets out a deep breath. It always makes me laugh. Shelley likes to come and snuggle with me on the bed in the morning and she always settles in quietly whereas Mindy moves around so much sometimes and grooms herself.

Tom's Dad, thanks for stopping by and for sharing that link with me! How cute! Makes me want to watch the movie again. Your Sir Thomas was quite a cat. My Tina also was real careful not to disturb my little knick-knacks and things. Shelley likes to jump on my big dresser in the bedroom. Mindy is not so much of a jumper as her legs are shorter than Shelley's and she's also a bit heavier. Shelley and I had a good long cuddle this afternoon. She always like to place her paws on my hand or my arm, and it feels so good. She is such a sweet and trusting little cat, always rolling over on her back and wanting a tummy rub.

Hi DannysMom

How funny that they sat by their bowl waiting for food! It is amazing how they can just squeeze a small bit of food extra out of us. It is almost like they quickly spoke to each other and said if we both sit by it then maybe, just maybe, mummy might give us a little bit more. And Mindy obviously thought.....well Im not actually that hungry but I will do it for you Shelley rolleyes.gif

Haha Tom's_Dad I only watched that the other day and now comparing it to Mindy and Shelleys wild night has me in stitches! They seem to have such funny personalities, different like chalk and cheese but the same.......just like sisters laugh.gif

xxForeverxx, thanks for stopping by. I always enjoy reading your comments. smile.gif I'm not sure if Shelley is the chalk or the cheese, but both of my fur kids sure have funny personalities. It's like having kids that never grow up. I'm learning to distinguish Shelley's meows. Sometimes I mistakes her "cuddle me!" cries for hunger cries. And then when I put food in her bowl she just looks at me as if to say "That's not what I wanted!" Then she comes and jumps on my lap and I know it's a cuddle she wanted. She is so content cuddling with me, always placing her paws on my arms or grabbing my hand with both paws and then she either rubs my hand with her head or starts licking my hand. I sometimes think about how it must have been difficult for her previous human to give her up since Shelley is such a loving cat. She definitely has a good home with me.

This morning Shelley enjoyed sitting on top of the couch in the living room and looking out the window. She has taken to watching this little tabby cat on one of the balconies across from us. His human lets him out on the balcony sometimes. Yesterday Shelley "helped" me make the bed and put fresh sheets on. I play-grabbed her little body under the sheets and she let out excited squeaks. Then I moved my hand across the sheet and she was chasing me.

This morning, when Shelley sat on the window perch, I lifted Mindy's body and put her right next to Shelley so that they both could look out. Mindy did the sweetest thing. She started grooming Shelley's neck and head, but decided not to stay with her adoptive sister. I love seeing them together by the window, and I so enjoy watching them groom each other. It's imply wonderful that they get along so well.

Shelley has been wanting lots of cuddles yesterday. When I held her in my arms and she had her head snuggled against my chest she suddenly reached up with both front paws and gently touched my face. How sweet! smile.gif This little cat is so loving. I hope she'll be with me for many, many years to come.

I got up this morning and fed the girls then went back to snooze a bit as I didn't sleep good at all last night. I got startled by Shelley's loud shrieks and found both Mindy and Shelley on the bed, wrestling. For some reason Mindy wanted to play rough with Shelley. She sat on top of her back and started biting the side of her neck. I looked at them in astonishment and told Mindy to take it easy and to not hurt Shelley. Mindy just looked at me with the proud look of a conqueror, and poor Shelley just laid there meekly, but took the first opportunity to get away from Mindy. I had to comfort my poor Shell' and when I did so Mindy meowed and looked at me with a sorrowful look as if to say:"But, mom, we were just playing! It's fun!" So I comforted her too and told her it was okay. Cats! laugh.gif

I'm glad to hear your girls have made up. Perhaps it has something to do with them both knowing what it's like to be the "new kid" as Theresa and Tang know all too well. I'm sorry someone was mean to you, and I hope it has not caused any lingering stress. My best to you, Mindy and Shelley.

Tom's Dad, I hadn't thought about that...both my girls knowing what it's like to be the new kid. Mindy had it rough with Tina, that's for sure, as Tina didn't take too kindly to the newcomer and always gave Mindy a beating when she'd play with Tina's tail. Shelley is the real gentle one whereas Mindy is just a tad aggressive at times, but she is not mean, just likes to play rough and have fun. Tonight my girls were both watching me clean out some of the kitchen cabinets. They just sat there quietly and watched. Shelley wanted to cuddle again tonight and acted like she hadn't seen me in a year! smile.gif

Hope both you and your fur kids are well.

Sigh! Today was nail trimming day, and things did not go well at all. I trimmed Mindy's nails first and had some trouble with her inner extra toe on the right paw. As I started clipping she let out a little screech, so I adjusted and trimmed just a little bit. The extra nails are so hard to trim as her extra toes are covered with black fur and it's difficult to gently squeeze the toe to get the claw to show. The rest of her nails went well and she was so good about the whole thing. Unfortunately Shelley had watched the whole thing and was not pleased when I grabbed her next. She was so scared that she would get hurt and started pulling her paw away and voiced her displeasure. I had to calm her down and start over several times. Some of her nails did not need trimming. She has the habit of chewing some of her nails when she cleans her paws. I think we were both glad when Shelley's nails were done. Whew! Mindy is much more patient with me. Shelley is the sensitive one. But she didn't hold it against me and we cuddled later on. Unfortunately she did not see her little tabby friend on the balcony across from us. His humans did not let him/her out today.

Hi DannysMom.

Sorry to hear you had so much trouble with claw clipping. I feel your pain, figuratively and literally blink.gif These days I depend on thick gloves and the bathroom sink happy.gif Sorry Shelley didn't get to see her balcony buddy.

I hope today is treating you kind, and that you, Mindy and Shelley have a great evening. TTFN

Tom's Dad, thanks for stopping by. It sure sounds like nail trimming time isn't much fun at your place. I could never trim Tina's nails as she was way too skittish and would flinch any time the clipper even came near her paw. Shelley still keeps looking for the little tabby cat on the balcony across from us, but they're not letting him go out. He seems to spend his days lounging on top of the couch and looking out the window. Shelley is so sweet. Yesterday evening I was petting her as Mindy was watching us, and then all of a sudden Shelley jumped down, laid down next to Mindy and got some sisterly kitty lovin'. Mindy gently groomed Shelley's ears, head, and neck. And then the two of them just laid side by side. This morning I caught them practicing their kung-fun moves while sitting the window.

Then, Mindy did a "fake" chase. She wiggled her little behind as if she was getting ready to go after Shelley and she half-lunged. Shelly took off, but Mindy just looked at her as if to say:"Haha, you thought I was gonna chase you!" It is so much fun watching them.

Hi DannysMom

That is amazing actually about Shelley knowing what she wants when she cries as no matter what if I had put food in my cats bowls they would all go for the food whether they had originally wanted a cuddle or not laugh.gif Whereas sweet sweet Shelley did not take the food to start with and came to you for a cuddle which is what she wanted in the firs place.

It is wonderful to hear each time how much Mindy and Shelley are getting along. All cats have times when they get fed up of the other one but if they can make up easily then you know they have a special bond.

Do you reckon Shelly wants to meet this tabby cat across the road from you?

Hello xxForeverxx, it is always good to hear from you. Yes, I think Shelley wants to meet this tabby across from us. I even thought about knocking on their door with Shelley in tow, but they would probably think I was crazy. There is just something that really fascinates Shelley about this cat, but of course now it is too cold for him/her to go out on the balcony. He spends his days lounging on top of their couch by the window. Shelley and I had quite a few cuddles last night. She always loves touching my arm with her paws. Shelley is one of the most affectionate cats I have ever met. I think it must have been hard for her former human to give her up as she is such a sweet cat. But she has this habit of walking in front of my feet, and a few days ago I almost tripped over her while walking into the closet. I chided her and later I felt so bad about it, because she is so sensitive and easily gets her feelings hurt. I'll just have to be more careful. Do any of your cats like to crawl into your closets?

Posted by: DannysMom Nov 16 2013, 12:19 PM

Shelley is still pining away for that little tabby cat. This morning she was very vocal again as I was preparing their canned food. Mindy would have none of Shelley's antics and slapped her with a paw to quiet her down. Shelley always meows so much and then she doesn't really eat much of the canned food. Shelley and I had such a nice cuddle last night. I love holding her in my arms. She is such a gentle and affectionate cat, always licking my hand when I pet her. She must have been such a good mom to her three little kittens. I found her little fleece football under the bed last night and was throwing it for her. Of course she happily ran after it! smile.gif It always make me laugh when I see her "stomp" on some of the toys. She will stomp on them with both her hind legs, and it is just the funniest thing.

Hi DannysMom.

So sorry to hear that Shelley is sad.gif over missing her Tabby friend. She sounds like such a kind and sensitive soul. A true feline poet. I hope you, she and Miss Mindy are well. TTFN

Tom's Dad, yes, you are so right about Shelley. She really is a kind and sensitive soul, my "little momma". Shelley watched me trimming Mindy's nails and since Mindy didn't utter a sound this time Shelley was slightly more comfortable getting her nails trimmed, but still very skittish about it and slipped out of my arms before I trimmed that last nail, so I had to get her again. Her nails were fairly long too as were Mindy's. Of course Shelley "huffed" after we were done. She just sat there, looked at me and let out a deep sigh as if to say "How could you do this to me?" She always voices her frustration by "huffing" and looking really miffed. But she is quick to forgive. Shelley laid by the window most of the afternoon, hoping to catch a glimpse of her tabby friend, but it is too cold for him to go out on the balcony. She did play a round of chase with Mindy and early this morning they galloped through the bedroom and woke me up.

Posted by: DannysMom Nov 24 2013, 01:10 PM

As I was bringing the groceries upstairs today Shelley took the opportunity to sit by the door and look outside. For a split second I thought it was Tina sitting there again, and I hastened to take a picture. Tina used to love sitting by the storm door to see who is walking by. Shelley gave off some high-pitched, excited little sounds. Then, Mindy came down to join her and she got excited too. I have to see about taking Shelley out on a leash for a little walk. I wonder if she would enjoy that.

She sure brought back some precious memories of Tina today, but of course Tina never looked at me this way. Shelley just always seems to have this surprised look on her face. I love the cute markings under her chin.

Hi DannysMom. What a great picture of Shelley!

I experienced something similar sometime back. It was a stormy night and Tang was sitting in the bedroom window. Just as I was walking by lightning lit up the room just as he turned to look at me. For a split second I could have sworn it was Tom looking back at me - and they look nothing alike blink.gif

Not sure if your girls would enjoy outings on a leash, but if you try it I hope they do. I hope you, Mindy and Shelley are well today. TTFN

Tom's Dad, maybe the way Tang looked at you in that instant reminded you so much of Tom. I know with Shelley it's probably the fact that she is also a calico like Tina and so of course she'll remind me of Tina when she does the same things Tina used to do. Shelley is an incredibly loving cat. She wanted lots of cuddles yesterday and she gets so anxious when I got and take a shower and close the bathroom door. I'm glad she hasn't figured out how to open the door! laugh.gif `

Hope you and the girls are well. TTFN

Hi DannysMom

She definitley has a little crush on this tabby cat I think rolleyes.gif Would be funny if you walked up to there door with Shelley and was like "hi erm.....can our cats meet?" laugh.gif That is a lovely photo of her it really does show off the beautiful colours of her coat.

Yes mine will run in my wardrobes etc all the time and Pixie even jumps in the drawers if they are open. Does she go in the closet often? She obviously likes it in there.

Posted by: DannysMom Dec 26 2013, 12:44 PM

Hello xxForeverxx, I have indeed thought about taking Shelley over to the neighbors with the tabby cat, but I think they may just slam the door in my face. She has been sitting in the window again today, looking over at their balcony. I keep telling her it's too cold for her friend to come out. Shelley does go in the closet every chance she gets. I had even locked her in the linen closet for an hour or so and she didn't even meow to let me know she was in there, but she sure wanted out! laugh.gif

She also likes to go and sit on my clothes like my Danny used to do. But she sure is skittish about having her nails trimmed and she put up a good fight this past Sunday, growling and trying awfully hard to get off my lap. I could only trim four claws on each front paw as she is too skittish about those little claws. Mindy did much better, and she is more patient. Shelley is the "nervous Nellie". Sometimes she runs around like crazy and climbs up the jungle gym and starts clawing on the scratch posts. She still loves to chase after the sponge balls when I throw them and will even run right past them when she can't stop in time.

Posted by: DannysMom Jan 11 2014, 12:29 PM

Shelley is so funny. She has discovered how to shred wrapping paper and she bites of little pieces at a time and just spits them out. My girls let me sleep in this morning, and I really needed the extra sleep. But they sure were hungry! Shelley even shared her dry food with Mindy and let her eat from her bowl so I put some dry food in Mindy's bowl which Shelley then ate. She is such a good little cat, so considerate. I couldn't have found a better friend for Mindy. I'm just always so glad at how well they have bonded. Shelley always greets my like a rock star when I get home. She comes down the stairs and waits for me and after I feed her she wants to spend time with me and be loved. Sometimes I see her sitting in the window, waiting for me.

Posted by: DannysMom Jan 19 2014, 03:26 PM

Things did not go so well with nail trimming today. Sigh! Mindy was very cooperative, but Shelley was another story. She got so mad and growled after I got done with one paw. She swatted an angry left paw at the nail clipper and growled. I had to give up after trimming only half her left paw. Shelley is so incredibly skittish about getting her nails trimmed. And to make matters worse after she slipped out of my arms and had enough Mindy started going after her. She pounced on Shelley and beat her up as if to say "Don't be such a ninny!" Poor Shelley shrieked in protest and ran off. I tried petting her to calm her down some. She really hates getting her nails trimmed.

Hi DannysMom

Oh dear happy.gif she definitley sounds like she did not enjoy that! Funny how Mindy was making fun of her though. Kids will be kids wink.gif Has she forgiven you since then? I was told the other day that Ellie needs her teeth cleaned by us with a toothbrush.......not as easy as it sounds when your trying to shove a toothbrush in a mouth full of mega sharp teeth!

xxForeverxx

Posted by: DannysMom Jan 29 2014, 07:15 PM

xxForeverxx, yes, Shelley has forgiven me since then. She is a very forgiving little cat, that is for sure. We got 10 inches of snow overnight and Shelley even ventured out onto the balcony today and sat there for a minute. Reminded me soooo much of Tina! She waded into deep snow one year and then shook off her wet paws, but she still enjoyed it!

You may want to try a little finger brush with Ellie that fits onto your finger. You can try first massaging her gums without using any toothpaste and slowly getting her used to it. There are also some water additives that you can use that keep their teeth clean. I've used one for years and Danny never needed his teeth cleaned until he was 10 years old.

These are Shelley's paw prints on the balcony which got just a bit of snow

Posted by: DannysMom Feb 15 2014, 12:28 PM

Shelley is coming WAY out of her "shell". Monday night she sat in front of Mindy and looked at her as if she were sizing her up for an attack. Sure enough, Shelley pounced on her and wrestled Mindy who gave off a protesting meow and tried to escape. But Shelley was quicker and pounced on her again. I had to laugh! When Shelley first came here she was shy and a bit timid and protested every time Mindy wanted to wrestle with her, but now she is getting so bold! Last night Shelley pounced on Mindy again and Mindy hissed at her because she wasn't in the mood. But they soon made up and Mindy gave Shelley's ears and head a good cleaning. I love seeing them together like this. Shelley is so comfortable here and she watches over Mindy and gets that concerned look on her face every time I grab Mindy to put ointment on her itchy red bump.

Posted by: DannysMom Mar 15 2014, 11:51 AM

Shelley and I had some good cuddles this week. This morning she licked my face and looked at me so adoringly with her big, green eyes. I am so lucky to have this little cat in my life. She is incredibly loving and gentle. She follows me around in the morning, and she loves getting attention from me. Today should be a really nice day out, in the upper 60s. So she may see her little tabby cat friend on the balcony across from us.

Shelley even comforts me like Tina used to do. Last week I was very upset about a nasty experience I had and I started crying. Shelley hopped onto my lap and started purring, and she looked up at me with her big green eyes as if to say "Please don't cry. I love you". What a sweet cat. She is a real gem.

My poor Shelley. She is going to be heartbroken. It looks like the people on the balcony across from us are moving. They have taken all their stuff off the balcony. Those are the people with the brown tabby cat. I am sure Shelley will miss seeing that little cat. I tried to comfort her. She looked so sad sitting there by the window.

That's what I keep telling her, Tom's Dad. For some reason this tabby cat was real special to Shelley. And she never even got to really meet him/her. Shelley is enjoying this beautiful Saturday. She is glad to have me home.

Hi DannysMom

I will definitley have to give that a go with Ellie's teeth. Awwwww what a shame about the cat. Have they moved yet? Do you think Shelley has realised? You never know maybe another cat will move in there. At least she has built up a proper character in herself and gets on with Mindy so well now. Those paw prints in the snow are absolutley amazing. So cute! laugh.gif Did she not find it cold?

xxForeverxx

Posted by: DannysMom Mar 26 2014, 08:10 PM

xxForeverxx, yes, the neighbors have moved out. Maybe I should have taken the chance and knocked on their door and enquired about their cat when they were still here. Shelley has realized he's gone, I think, but she still sits and looks over there. It would be nice if a family with another cat moved in. Shelley is so friendly and social. She never even hissed at Mindy when I first brought her home, and she even kept to herself in a separate room to give Mindy a chance to get used to her. Shelley is such a smart cat. I sometimes carry on conversations with her. She'll make a sound and I repeat it, and then she makes a slightly different sound and I try to repeat that and it goes on like this. We did that last night and Mindy sat there and looked at us both as if to say "You too are WEIRD!" But I had so much fun! smile.gif Shelley seems to enjoy these conversations too, and when I don't get a sound quite right she repeats it and it's like she is saying "NO, it goes like THIS!"

I love Shelley's paw prints in the snow! I think she found it cold, but she went out there nevertheless just to have a look see.

Hi DannysMom

I just had to chime in here. I do the same thing with Tang and get the same "look" from Theresa laugh.gif

Posted by: DannysMom Apr 6 2014, 02:00 PM

Tom's Dad, that is so funny how your Tang is a "talker" too. smile.gif I did a short video today of me and Shelley having a "conversation". It didn't go to well as my throat was a bit sore and Shelley probably thought "What is she talking about?" Mindy perked up her head and looked at us as if to say:"Hey, what is this talk all about? Stop it, I'm trying to nap!" But I had a good laugh, and that was just what I needed.

Last night the girls had a serious fight. It all started off so innocently with Mindy grabbing Shelley as she walked by and holding her head in a lock. Shelley freed herself and started pouncing on Mindy and wrestled with her which prompted Mindy to hiss and flatten her ears. Shelley just looked at her and tried to stare her down. Mindy took a swat at Shelley's head with her paw and so Shelley pounced on her again and took some fur off Mindy's back which got Mindy real mad and she backed away from Shelley and sought refuge next to me. Shelley continued to stare her down, and so I intervened and told them they needed to get along. Things calmed down after that, and today I saw Shelley giving Mindy some gentle licks on her head. All is well again! smile.gif

Hi DannysMom.

Sorry to hear about the girls fighting. I'm thinking Shelley may be on edge missing her friend. Theresa and Tang get into it to at odd times too. I usually nip it right away with a "HEY you two, cool it" And they both look at me as if to say at the same time "He/She started it" Just like kids happy.gif

I'm glad Mindy and Shelley patched things up though.

Posted by: DannysMom Apr 13 2014, 02:20 PM

Tom's Dad, I think Shelley just gets a bit too frisky sometimes. And Mindy may be upset that Shelley sometimes gets the upper hand when they wrestle. Mindy is used to being the one "in charge". Sometimes Shelley runs around like crazy and then climbs up on the jungle gym.
She got so scared today when a little girl wanted to pet her. I was planting flowers and some kids came by, and one of them saw Shelley behind the storm door and wanted to pet her, so I brought Shelley outside. As soon as we were outside Shelley started meowing and was absolutely terrified. She was so distressed and clung to my neck, and I had to take her back inside. I felt so bad. And I found Mindy hiding under the bed, probably scared that something had happened to Shelley. She sure is a sensitive little cat.

Hi DannysMom.

Sorry to hear Shelley (and Mindy) got so spooked outside. I'm guessing she isn't very used to it? I hope they are both doing better. Pleasant evening to you all.

Today was nail trimming day. It went fine with Mindy, but as usual I had problems with Shelley. She was real upset by the time I got to her left front paw which I couldn't trim last time. Now it had to be trimmed, because the nails were so long. I got it done, but Shelley was SO upset, especially when I got to her little "pinky". She slipped out of my grasp when I was done, and Mindy went right after her and wrestled her to the ground as if to say "You ninny!!!" Shelley ran off, but Mindy continued her relentless pursuit and chased her into the bedroom. I don't know why she does that.

Yesterday they had been so good together. Mindy joined Shelley on the window seat and they sat there looking outside and getting some fresh air. In the afternoon Mindy walked up to Shelley and started washing her ears and face which Shelley greatly appreciated and she started washing Mindy as well, but when Shelley wanted to play and swatted a paw at Mindy it was ears flattened back and a stern look from Mindy.

Shelley has calmed down now, and is out of hiding. I comforted her. Poor thing, she hates getting her nails trimmed. sad.gif

Hello xxForeverxx, I can't believe Shelley is already 3 1/2 now! Sometimes it seems like I got her only yesterday. She is doing somewhat better with the nail trimming, but she moves so much while I trim her nails, and I have to be so careful with her as she does not like her little pinkies trimmed! Shelley does user her scratch posts, but still her nails get so long and sharp and need trimming every once in a while. She has been so good to me, always wanting cuddles and lots of attention. And she is getting along so well with Mindy. I love seeing them chase each other around and just always have to laugh at the sound of their galloping little paws. Today I will try to put up the Christmas tree. I know Mindy and Shelley are going to enjoy sleeping under it as they do every year.
