I lost my baby, Leo the Lion a Husky, at the beginning of this month, February 5. Leo and I used to go for 2 hour walks about 5 to 6 times a week (the 1 to 2 days I couldn't walk him I generally got someone else to walk him). Since his passing I haven't done a walk, but I need to train for a excavation that will deal with a lot of walking/hiking. I decided to ask my sister's boyfriend if I could walk his dog, another Husky named Bella (she is a dorky looking Husky, all gangly), because I don't like walking alone or with other people (they tend to slow me down). So I was calling him to tell him that I was going to take Bella for a walk, but as soon as the phone started ringing I started crying. Just the idea of taking another dog for a walk is heart breaking for me. Since I got Leo he was the only dog I walked and now that Leo is gone I kind of feel like I would betraying him because walks were our time (that and giving him my cheese from my food. Can't eat it, but he could and he loved it!).

The idea of going for a walk with another dog is not the only thing that bring me to tears, but it is the only one I can really justify the tears. (I stopped eating certain foods, stopped watching certain shows/movies and stopped going the certain places because they are what we used to eat or do together).

LeotheLion, this is such a nice photo of your Leo. What a beautiful dog! Taking walks with a furry friend is very special, and I can understand that it still hurts so much that you can't walk with another dog right now. The grief is still so fresh, and it is difficult to cope. I lost my little Danny boy almost two month ago, and every time I stop by his grave I still start to cry. I hope that life is treating you kindly and that things will get better for you. The only way to get 'over' this pain is to really go through it, to cry the tears and to experience the pain. I am very sorry for your loss.

Thank you DannysMom and EvEf, I feel better knowing I am not just being silly in crying over the "little things."

I am also sorry about your losses as well.

Hi, LeoTheLion, please permit me to offer you my sincerest sympathies in the physical loss of your companion Leo. What a very precious companion he is. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful picture of him with us.

It is very, very difficult to re-invent our lives without the physical presence of our beloved companions. And even the most simple of things that we did with them - - as walking them - - can make us feel like we are "betraying" them by doing the same thing with another companion - - be it a new furchild we have welcomed into our hearts and home, or with a furchild who belongs to a family member or friend.

I hope as time progresses in your grief journey that you will come to realize that your beloved Leo will welcome your ability to share time with another furchild. I promise you that the time you shared with your beloved Leo during his earthly journey is unique between you and your beloved Leo. Nothing can ever change this. The time you share with another companion will be entirely different because of the very unique nature of your relationship.

Leo, this grief journey is one of the hardest experiences we will ever know on this side of eternity. Please know we are here for you for as long and as often as you need us. And please know you are in my thoughts and prayers, and that I look forward to knowing how you're doing.

Peace and blessings,
moon_beam

The most blessed way I have of knowing God's comforting love and grace is to look into the eyes and heart of God's creatures' sweet angelic face.
