I'm absolutely devastated. My joyous, loving, beautiful kitten Jasper is dying of FIP. I've only had him 3 months, he's only 7 months old. After years of long-lived cats, I've lost several in the past few years, and it's too much, too much. More soon. Right now I'm reeling in shock and grief.

Many of you have been following Sable's saga. (In Lost & Missing, "Do Finders Have to be Keepers?") This morning I took her to the vet's to let her go. Such a sweet girl. Three years ago I found her on the freeway, near death, stranded in the grassy median. Brought her home, and after a week of thinking it over, she decided to live. Fattened up to 10 pounds, though remained with weak kidneys, and arthritis in her shoulder. She purred me to sleep, and purred me awake, always sleeping right next to my head. After about a year, she seemed to 'wake up' a bit, and get off the bed to sit in the livingroom, or go lie in the sun on the back porch.

Over this winter, she was back to sleeping about 23 hours a day. I'd been noticing a decline, but of course it's always gradual. Last week I suddenly saw that she was really winding down, getting ready to go. I realized she'd stopped eating. Still, she purred. She and I talked about euthanasia, and I asked her to tell me when she was ready. Last night I got home from work, and through the evening every so often she'd let out a meow/howl of pain. She was able to get to sleep again around midnight, so I was able to get sleep last night, then first thing this morning took her to the vet.

I'm almost finished digging her grave. I'm grateful the sun is shining, since it's still below freezing. That's my biggest concern, she hated being cold. I know she's out of her body now, but still. She's wrapped in a fleece blanket, and has a little cardboard coffin box too.

It took a long time for us to bond, but we did. My love for her was quiet and full of compassion. I loved her morning serenades, purring me awake. For pics, and to read more of her story, click here: Sable's Story Part I and Sable's story part II.

I've been following this story on the local news, and want to bring it here to get your collective vibrational support. Mugsy is a tortoiseshell kitty in a motorhome crash 14 days ago, up in Snoqualmie Pass in western WA. The motorhome split open, one cat was injured, and Mugsy fled. Her papa died, her mama survived, and her kitty sibling recovered. The family is desperate to bring Mugsy home. I bring this here for three reasons:

1. A Missing Pet blogger is following her case, so you can follow along and lend your emotional support and clarity to Mugsy that it's okay to enter the humane traps they've set for her.

2. The Missing Pet blog has other good information for anybody with a missing pet. Specifically, good information on lost pet behavior and search tactics.

3. The family enlisted help from the Missing Pet Partnership, and they're asking for donations to help fund Mugsy's rescue. Each trek to the summit involves gas and motel. If you so wish, contact them at donate@pethunters.com.

WA Animal Search And Rescue Team (WASART) put up cameras for a week, at several feeding stations, and caught her on film. So she's out there. At the blog, you can see her picture on Day 1, with the original TV story. On another day's post, you can see what the trap looks like. Please send your best, clearest thoughts to her about how safe and warm and wonderful life will be when she walks into the cage trap -- help her connect the trap and that feeling.

Click this link: Missing Pet Partnership Facebook page On the 9/10/10 entry you'll notice an option to donate to MPP at donate@pethunters.com

Let's see this one through as a successful rescue and reunion!!

Found this story on the local news. I don't know how long this link to the video story will work, but for a while at least: Click Here for Video News Story. --If you've lost someone, keep hope and keep looking.

BURIEN (Western WA) - A spotted white and brown Chihuahua was at long last reunited with his humans this week after the dog went missing nearly one year ago.

"Buster Brown" was deemed a stray when he showed up in the backyard of a Burien home last month. Burien Animal Care and Control took the dog in, put him on a routine 3-day hold and then neutered and readied him for adoption. Buster's caretakers didn't realize the dog already had a home...on the other side of the country.

BACC listed Buster with all of their other adoptable animals at PetFinder.com. It's a website that was closely being watched by the Jackson family in South Carolina.

Long-haul trucker Eddie Jackson was staying at a Tacoma hotel in September of 2009 when his own Chihuahua disappeared. Jackson went to authorities, fearing the dog had been stolen, but no leads were ever found.

Ten months later, the Jacksons recognized Buster on PetFinder and recently made a week-long trip across the country to claim him as their lost dog , Cisco.

The Jacksons will soon begin their trek back to South Carolina with Cisco. After that, it's unclear if Cisco's traveling days will be behind him.

laugh.gif Finished the cat fence today! They love it! Running up and down the hill, checking out the pond, sniffing the air, discovering the jungle under the crown ferns.

Willow had been an outdoor-with-supervision kitty for 6 years, then got grounded last fall when he crossed the road two days in a row. With summer here, he's been waking me at 4am every day to talk about it. Rohan and Luna have never been outside in their 3 years, except for 8x15 cat alley. Today, I was able to let them outside in the fenced backyard. Rohan's already proudly sporting a burr tightly tangled in his gorgeous plume tail.
