It's been three months now since Daddycat left us. The pain has lessened to a degree with time, but looking at photos of him on the tribute page still brings on tears. The two cats we adopted after his death are settling in very well. They were partly feral and it's been a lot of work but they are becoming real sweethearts in our lives here. I feel that helping these two unfortunate cats was the best thing we could have done out of love for Daddycat. It is a way of passing on our love for him in helping others who need a caring home. In that spirit my wife and I have volunteered to help at the shelter we adopted Beau and Velvet from. In a week we will be at a pet adoption day at the local Petco with the group. We will be helping to set up cages and show the cats there to potential adopters, screening the applicants to make certain the furkids will be going into loving homes and will be receiving proper care. My own soft spot is for the older, more timid, and the 'imperfect' cats who are hard to adopt out. Everyone wants the cute kittens and most seem to ignore the others. I am going to really push for the more unfortunate cats there to get the loving homes they deserve. I think Daddycat would have liked that sentiment very much. smile.gif

What an absolutely beautiful tribute, here and on your tribute page. He sounds like he was a total earth angel. Just goes to show what a little love and caring will do. You were lucky to have him in your presence and he was lucky that someone cared, very few do.
Your work with the shelter and your adoption of the two feral kitties is a wonderful tribute to the spirit of Daddy Cat.

I hope it goes so well for you next week and that you are able to find homes for some of the less fortunate little kitties that as you so rightly say, often seem to get overlooked. It is a wonderful tribute to DaddyCat that you are now helping other kitties to find new homes.

I am so glad that the two new members of your family are settling in so very well and are becoming a great joy to you.

Your tribute page to DaddyCat is just beautiful and honors him in such a very special way ...

Thinking of you at this time

with love
jilly

I am very sorry for all the losses and that is a beautiful tribute for DaddyCat.

Across our driveway we have an area where we bury the cats and the ferrets. Over the years I have taken in countless stray cats and not quite 3 years ago we began doing ferret rescues. From my office windows, I have a very clear view of the little cemetary and it reminds me so much of death and sadness and I wanted to do something out there that would show signs of life so next spring we are going to plant climbing roses. We bought the trellis but it was too late in the season to buy and plant roses so that is planned for next spring.

Update on the adoption day efforts:

Last week we learned the ropes and basically did "scut work" like swabbing out ears and keeping an eye on the kids petting the cats. We were just happy to be helping out. This week we had a more active role, learning the adoption procedures and screening process. I had my first adoption of a cat! It was very rewarding work and I am exhausted after volunteering for over 6 hours. We adopted a total of 5 cats today and constantly worked with the more feral cats to get them used to human contact. I can't wait for next weekend when we return. This type of work is a fantastic way to give back something to the animals we love.
