I just heard this news flash this morning, found some info. on it, so am posting it for everyone to check out.

Funny....I'd just been flipping through a Sears catalogue with some supposedly "faux fur" products and trims on clothes and thinking even the pictures of some of these looked suspiciously like REAL fur, yet labeled "faux rabbit", "faux chinchilla", etc.. I've also felt some of these in stores (e.g. coats trimmed in 'faux' fur) and was highly suspicious with the marked difference in feel and texture, as compared to some obvious synthetics. Now I know why these two observations most likely are correct! This deliberate deception has to STOP, and we need to start with our legislators as well as putting in complaints to the stores that sell these products....like most of them???

NOTE: It's often hard to test by means of the backing (as explained below) because of lining covering the back, so my suggestion is, if it feels or looks too real, just pass it by and look for a product that's more clearly fake in both appearance and feel.

Luckily, the one faux fur-type piece of clothing (a coat) I have is so obviously synthetic (checked anyway, according to the guidelines below), I can relax on that front.

Yah, exactly, Jon. And "srsly", I can't believe how many people, even many who firmly espouse to be 'animal lovers', still don't even think twice about buying and wearing fur, or leather, or even getting fur toys for their kidlets. Where do they think that fur comes from anyway? Willy Wonka's chocolate fur factory?

I had a local 'friend', whose supposed 'animal loving' ways I questioned in my head a number of times due to her answers, reactions and actions about animal matters, including but not limited to my own grief over Nissa.....something she NEVER truly understood, despite all the airs she put on about being so compassionate and understanding. Things she did and said were just off the mark, both I and my H thought.

Then one day she sent me this disgusting "forward" of a Chinese open-air market where all sorts of animal meat was being sold, including dog and horse meat (it was clearly labeled).....and her attached comments dealt with LAUGHING her head off about it....and she'd just euthanised (for convenience, I wonder?) her own dog that same year, no less! Meanwhile, that was the same time period where I'd been writing those letters of protest and posting about the cat slaughter in Beijing, China, reading all about how they skin those cats (and all sorts of other animals) live...and then eat their flesh, too. I'd never made any bones about how I viewed animals and their inherent value, so she should have known better than to send something like that to me, of all people. ph34r.gif

Despite years already of my attempts to gently enlighten her on animal issues, and tolerating being made fun of for my stances and beliefs about animals, and trying to also help save the felines under HER 'care' (I use that term quite lightly in her case as she kept, in secret and lying to me about, threatening to 'get rid of' their own cat due to his emotionally-based peeing issues, but her own husband told me what she'd really been saying at home), her TRUE beliefs came out in this last "forward", and I became totally fed up with her attempted deceptions. It may have been mean of me, but her ostrich-like, "la-la-la-la-la-la....I can't heeeeear you!" way of moving through the world when the truth inconvenienced her lifestyle finally got the best of me and I sent her back a video showing how these animals are skinned alive for their markets (and the N. Amer. markets that also blindly use such by-products), telling her that it certainly WASN'T a laughable matter to ME. My H even added a comment to her, too, which she passed right over of course. Needless to say, end of 'friendship' in a flash....after she made all sorts of excuses for herself. Good riddance. She and her own treasured, REAL fur coat (wolf, I believe) can visit places like China and STAY there, for all I care now.

As I'd once told someone else here......"Often anger is a sign of engagement with life. People who are angry are touched deeply by the events of their lives and feel strongly about them...Anger is just a demand for change, a passionate wish for things to be different...." ~ from Kitchen Table Wisdom ~ And this woman pushed one too many of my passionate buttons. So while I'm not proud of how, exactly, I ended this relationship, I'm betting that she'll never be able to stay in her self-imposed ignorance and laugh at these particular atrocities so lightly ever again. I know I'LL never forget the torture I saw those innocent animals go through, in the name of vanity, frivolity, profit, 'superiority' and utter indifference.

WHY? If she knows how you feel and the way you believe, what was the point of sending that?

Does she send pounds of Bacon to her Jewish and Muslim friends?
Does she send videotapes of Black Masses to her Christian friends?

Even if we think someone else's belief system is not valid for us, that is not supposed to give us a license to taunt or provoke them.
It's stupid and ignorant.

Glad you have disposed of her. (SFX: *Flush* *Swirl* *Glug* )

laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif I sure could have used your sharp wit at the time! But on second thought, it would have gone right over her head - WHOOOOOOSH!

She had a picture in her own head about being the most upstanding, outstanding, perfect, Christian (she and her H kept trying to 'convert' this 'heathen'-woman all the time....and threw her 'superior' dogma in my face every now and then), Bri VanDeCamp-type, Above-Everything-And-Everybody persona that didn't allow for HER ever making any mistakes with anybody or anything. I kept trying to focus on her better qualities, but this last bone-headed move was the proverbial last straw. I'm sure she's quite smug about the part she thinks she didn't play. All we could say was no small wonder her H left her once already...., but he came back later, which only increased her obnoxiousness! She's the same one who'd also sent me a story about a little girl being saved at the last second from her deathbed at Christmas-time.....sent to me just prior to our first Christmas w/o Nissa here. Never even got an "oops!" for that one, either, after I told her "sorry, but that wasn't helpful for me because my little girl died." Nope. Instead, she later claimed (in her last response) I'D insulted HER! Aaaaeeeeeeeyyyyyyy! wacko.gif

So you've actually got it -- WHY did she send this to me? Cuz in reality, she IS "stupid and ignorant", with an ego the size of Texas. Should have trusted my gut at the first hint of hypocrisy. Now I've sharpened my radar that much more. If I have to return, maybe I'll decide to come back as a lovely, little bat next time.....(( ~..~ ))......don't think I've ever heard of anyone using their fur.

Oh. One of them. All form and no substance.
They get the external trappings part but NEVER READ THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL!
You know, like men who try to put a barbecue grille together....

I have seen that happen with people I know.
They call me and tell me about how their interpretation is better than mine, theirs is the only right one, etc.etc..
and Oh Yeah....I will burn in the Abyss and will beg them that they dip the hem of their robe in water and lower it that I may drink thereof&etc.

So I ask how their life is going, and am presented with " (Stream of racial and ethnic slurs) took my job- Again!"

I later learned this bitter individual, whom I had known since Junior High School, died on June 6, 2006. (True!)

Called home, as it were.
Dante writes of a SPECIAL PLACE for the sullen and wrathful.
Well, it's not a total loss. He DID move to Texas because he liked hot weather.
Maybe he finally found an Engineering position.
In the boiler room, or managing the pots of burning pitch.
And it will, of course, be someone else's fault.

Well, there's little point in referring back to any of this using quotes......cuz every darn line would be followed by nothing but laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif ohmy.gif (regurgitating morning coffee) laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif ...BBQ grilles....06/06/06....pots of burning pitch.... laugh.gif laugh.gif I'm afraid these laughing smilies just aren't BIG enough, nor will this board allow me to add as MANY as I feel your post is owed.

Oh, gawd, you make me pee my pants, Jon..........your lucky spouse (not to usurp Miles' ti*tle) must have to really stock up on "Depends" around there.

Say, how 'boot if I just CALL you the next time one of these featherheads (apologies to the much brighter and actual birdies of the world) sneaks in my back door? It'd save me a lot of extra grief, well ahead of time, taking wise counsel from your Yuk-o-Rama perspectives. Or wait...even better...a conference call with them, and I'll just play the fly on the headset. Yah-YAH!! (sorry, it's the "hortie-tortie" pickled herring talking through me)

I should probably fess up in the fault department, though.....if I hadn't been so dang-blast stoopid myself, I woulda slammed that door shut on her and her fur-trimmed cupcakes WAY sooner than I did! Oh, but wait...that would be admitting that I'm not perfect and only give rise to need for that foot in my door. I just give these types way too much material to work with.

I really got suckered good, including the many a glorified reference to her past job as......don't laugh....a Social Worker, with self-proscribed grief counseling skills!! Yup. I walked right into that Venus Flycatcher of a trap, I did. When you're at your most vulnerable....

Naw. She's bored with it. After 43 years, she's heard it all before. My biggest triumph was when her closest friend visited, and I got going. She was rolling on the floor holding her sides shouting "Make him STOP!" And the real challenge is that my wife has kidney disease and takes diuretics..it would be TOO EASY if she still thought I was funny...
Maybe it's self-preservation.
