Lightning-Strike Pet Loss Support Forum _ CyberShoulder Room _ Grief Songs: Music For Grieving Hearts

Posted by: Furkidlets' Mom Feb 8 2009, 07:37 PM

In the same fashion as another grief board has done, I thought perhaps we could start our own version here of songs we find poignant and meaningful in one way or another, or that remind us of our fur-babies. This way we'll have one central thread (or even a separate forum if Marc could get that added sometime?) where we can come when we need to listen to music that helps us release our tears and sorrow, or even makes us smile in memory.

In that light, I'd like to start this off with one I just found that we could consider rather a tribute to ALL fur-babies everywhere. It's a pretty sweet song, and best of all, this particular accompanying video is dedicated to just animals.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HptY7eggqE4&feature=related

Baby mine, don't you cry.
Baby mine, dry your eyes.
Rest your head close to my heart,
never to part,
baby of mine.

Little one when you play,
don't you mind what they say.
Let those eyes sparkle and shine,
never a tear,
baby of mine.

If they knew sweet little you
they'd end up loving you two.
All of those people who scold you
what they'd give just for the right to hold you.

From your head down to your toes,
you're not much, goodness knows.
But you're so precious to me,
sweet as can be,
baby of mine.

If they knew sweet little you,
they'd end up loving you too.
All those same people who scold you,
what they'd give just for the right to hold you.

From your head down to your toes
you're not much, goodness knows.
But you're so precious to me,
sweet as can be,
baby of mine.
Baby of mine

~Alison Krauss~

Still in the general theme category, this next one could be considered a reminder to ourselves of how we should treat ourselves during our grief....or any other time, really!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihWYx-QJ95I .....don't be surprised if you start tearing up during this one (many people have), as you begin to acknowledge just how hard you've been on yourself for goodness knows how long....

Please feel free to add your own favourites, along with lyrics if you like. I know I'll be back later to add some of the ones I've already posted in my own threads. (we can only hope that with any video or other files, they don't disappear too soon from the 'net)

Love it. What a great idea!!!

great idea, i'll pin it to the top of the forum for now.

as Furkidlets' Mom did, search http://www.youtube.com for your songs. then either post a link to the page or use their 'embed' code to the right of each video to create a little thumbnail of the video, like i did below. here's how:

paste the embed code into your reply here; and then from the dropdown called 'Post Options' just below your reply window, choose "HTML On - Auto Line Break Mode" and click the Add Reply button. that's all there is to it.

also, please do not try to upload mp3 or wma song files with the attachments link, the forum board doesn't support those files. enjoy everybody!

WONDERFUL, Marc!....and esp. for the DIY steps for us (like ME) techie-challenged types! I'd JUST been wondering 2 days ago how the heck that was done anyway! cool.gif

This is My Beekie's song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zg2XgSuBqZo

Because his "image still is there, floating in the air, brighter than a flame."

Since I'd just posted about more of Nissa's continuing signs (read about these http://lightning-strike.com/forum/index.php?s=&showtopic=5196&view=findpost&p=49054 and this was also another one of the numerous songs I'd included in her burial/memorial ceremony, I'd like to include this here now. In glorious memory of my beloved fur-daughter, and all she did and still does to take loving care of her Mommy..... wub.gif

"You're Still You"

Through the darkness
I can see your light
And you will always shine
And I can feel your heart in mine
Your face I've memorized
I idolize just you

I look up to
Everything you are
In my eyes you do no wrong
I've loved you for so long
And after all is said and done
You're still you
After all
You're still you

You walk past me
I can feel your pain
Time changes everything
One truth always stays the same
You're still you
After all
You're still you

I look up to
Everything you are
In my eyes you do no wrong
And I believe in you
Although you never asked me to
I will remember you
And what life put you through

And in this cruel and lonely world
I found one love
You're still you
After all
You're still you

I was thinking of Jon and Miles today, and the long road Milsey traveled to be with Jon, the long road they traveled together, and the long road he must travel before they can go on again, together...forever. And this song came into my head. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COMsKPeWAsw

I just got wind of this one (from another board) and while it's not the style of music I usually enjoy, the words....oh, the words....surely echo how I feel about my precious babies.........(except, I hardly ever did take anything about them and our days together for granted, thank goodness)

There's a line in the Newton Faulkner song "Dream Catch me" that always makes me think of our old lass Meg:
"See you as a descant soul in the setting sun".

when she died I also posted this song link:

(not sure about the video, but the song is lovely, and of course I lied, they were not the last tears by a long shot)

I haven't found anything that has touched my heart, and made me cry, more that "Goodbye, My Friend" by Linda Ronstadt. It is the song Oprah used in her tribute to her Cocker Spaniel, Sophie.

Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton, and Everything I Own by Bread.

You Are So Beautiful is the only song that is coming to my mind. I used to sing that to my sweet Balki all the time.

Skrux - Our Fragment (feat. Missio) We are Forever

when we're gone
when we're gone

we will run
too the ocean

when we're gone
when we're gone

we will live in the motion

when we're gone
when we're gone

we will run to the ocean

when we're gone
when we're gone

we will live in the motion

I know.. You know..
Hold it together...

I know.. You know.. We are Forever...

<Reflection of a Friends Life>

when we're gone
when we're gone

we will look to the mountains

when we're gone
when we're gone

by the stars we will count them

I know.. You know..
Hold it together;

I know.. You know..

We are Forever...
