On Monday, Aug. 24, my beloved bichon Hunter, crossed over to Rainbow Bridge after a brief illness. He was 12 yrs old and was with us since he was 11 weeks old.

I am so sorry for your loss.

A brief illness is a blessing I guess although the loss still causes a lot of grief. So wonderful that you had Hunter for a long time so will have such wonderful memories to reflect on.

You have just begun this journey with the rest of us here. We all understand only too well what you are going through. We have been where you are today. Lots of helpful ideas here to help you travel through the days ahead.

Saying a prayer for you and Hunter. Maybe he will meet my Flossie and they may become friends although in her life here she was not so friendly with other dogs....... I hope she has changed as she really is a loving girl and she does need someone to befriend her till I get there!

dear woofNbark like Flossie's mum says it doesn't matter whether it's a short illness or a long illness, the devastation they cross the rainbow bridge is still a painful time.
you are in prayers.

Thank you for those kind words. Yes, Hunter was special to me. I still can't believe he's gone. It's the little things that I'm having trouble with. Like, there was more room on my bed monday night because he wasn't there. I have two other bichons, Ellie Mae and Mousie. I could always count on Hunter to finish Ellie Mae's food if she didn't clean her bowl. Now, I just throw what she doesn't eat out. I've decided to use his collar as my key chain. That way I'll have something of his always with me. I decided to have him cremated so when his ashes come back, I think I'll be able to move on a lot better.

It will help when you get his ashes, it did for me.
Then some weeks later our family went away & I just had to take my Buddy's ashes with me, he always came with us. I felt silly but I just knew I had to do it. I think I will need to do it nxt time we go too.
Peace Be With You

I'm sorry for your loss also. I'm so glad that I found this place so I can talk about Hunter, let my tears flow, and no one can see me cry. Everyone here has experienced everything I'm going through and no one says your crazy.

No, you're not crazy! You have a right to your grief! I've cried rivers of tears for my Callie.
I'm so sorry you lost your Hunter.
You are right, it is the little things that really got me too. Like looking down before sitting up on the couch to make sure I didn't step on Callie, having to feed the horses alone, or worst yet, being home alone for the first time in almost 14 years. I found talking about Callie here to be a great way to keep her a part of my day, and it's helping to heal my broken heart.

Chele, I can't image how you got through the initial part of being home alone. I still have 2 bichons. Ellie Mae is 14 whose health is OK, and Mousie who is 11 and whose health is pretty good.

woofNbark, it was awful! Not so bad once hubby got home with his dog, Skeeter. Hard to hide from the realization she was gone while sitting in a quiet house. I'm so glad you have your two to help you through your loss!
