I started talki about Ellie in my topic about my baby Chewy but I decided here was the best place to carry on taking about our new little life as Chewy deserved his own topic whe I could talk to him through this place sometimes.

For those of you that dont know my baby Chewy was cruelly taken from me on January 3rd 2012 after a dog attacked him the day before. He taught me so much about love and well devastation was and still isn't a strong enou word to describe how I feel over losing him. I never planned on getting another cat....I have 2 11 month old kittens that we rescued from a ditch last June and the thought if replacing my baby boy just made me cry. But I kept looking at cat sanitary websites as for some reason they made me feel better....I can't understand why but I did. I came across one site where there was this 10 month old kitten called Ellie. She looked like my Chewy except obviously she was female. She had been a stray pregnant kitten (pregnant at such a young age!) and I felt sorry for her and her description was that all the carers loved her and she was a playful happy cat considering what she had been through....and it said she was special.

I didn't think anything of it as I didn't want another cat....bu something kept pulling me back to that site and after a month all ther other cats had been adopted and she hadn't.....I said to myself forget about it but a few weeks later she was still there so I said I would give it until my birthday week....by my birthday she was still there so I told my fiancé we had to go see her as I feel like I should....so we went there two days before my birthday on the 3rd of March....she was lovely and I knew I couldn't leave her....and then to my amazement they put her birthday down as the 5th of march.....the same as mine! Then I knew it must have been a sign right?

She didn't like my kittens too much t start with so we set her up in the spare room.

DannysMom and moon_beam thank you for your advice. I did as you said and every evening we allow them all to play in the sitting room as there is more space to escape and it is not Ellies territory (the kittens are quite laid back when it comes to territory) and it seems to be working. They still have a little squabble but the progress now is they are quite happy to walk past each other and leave each other alone so am thinking if we keep doing this over the next few weeks hopefully they will start tomproperly like each other?

xxForeverxx, I am so glad to hear that your little Ellie is getting along better with the kittens! smile.gif This is really great news! I am sure we all would love to see a photo of your little Ellie. I hope that she and the kittens will really get to like each other. It may also help to involve them all in playtime, like with a teaser or something. One other thing you could try is to rub one of Ellie's blankets on the kittens so that they have her scent on them. With cats you have to take small steps at a time to get them used to each other since they are so territorial. It is also important not to punish them when they get territorial as that can make it worse.

It took a few weeks for my Tina to get used to little Mindy, and Tina "beat up" on Mindy quite a few times (playfully) to let her know who is the boss. They do get along better now as long as Mindy gives Tina her space and doesn't bug her too much. Each cat is different. Sometimes it works out really well. Quite a few years back we had a young male cat and when we added a little girl kitty he accepted her quite easily and even snuggled with her and went on adventures with her. It just all depends on the cat.

Hi DannysMom

Thank you for your reply. I will get a picture as soon as I can.

I took yours and moon_beams advice. As i set her up in the spare room I gave her a couple of blankets that the kittens had been on. (The kittens are very laid back and get a lot of love so do not mind us giving a couple of things to Ellie for a while.) We now allow them out in the house together while we are there as they seem slightly more settled.

Like your Tina and Mindy, Ellie and Fudge have a few little scraps but where as before Fudge was scared of her now he kind of paws back but not in a spiteful way and I even caught them laying down asleep in our bedroom the other night. And our little girl Pixie can walk past her and Ellie doesnt attack now so we are still shutting Ellie away when we are out the house but we are making good progress smile.gif

Dear xxForeverxx,

Congratulations on your newest addition, Ellie! We are so happy for you and, while she will never replace Chewy, she is getting your very special love and attention that she so deserves. Good luck with her and the other kitties! (I'm about to post about my two new muttskies. Reading your post made it possible for me to do so without feeling unfaithful to Trevor!)

Again, Happy Days!

Hi Bobbie

Thank you for your reply.

You do not need to feel guilty about posting. You have your special place on here for your Trevor and I am sure he wants to know you are sharing more love with more babies as well.

Ellie is still doing much better with the kittens....I have to stop calling them kittens as there pretty much a year now....and only 2 months younger then Ellie! I cant help it though force of habit from when Chewy was with us.

Hi, Forever, thank you so much for sharing your precious Ellie with us and she is progressing in settling into her new home with you and her house mates. I'm so very glad to know that Danny's Mom and I were able to give you some assistance. Just take it slow and easy. Even when the transition has been completed there will still be the occasional disagreement, but it won't last long and soon they will be back co-existing in harmony.

I hope today is treating you and your precious furkids kindly, Forever, and that you will have a very peaceful and blissful evening. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers, and look forward to knowing how things are going for you and your precious furkids.

Peace and blessings,

Hi, xxForeverxx, I was just thinking of you and was wondering how Ellie is doing. I'm sure by now she and the kittens must have become good friends.

Posted by: xxForeverxx May 23 2012, 10:07 AM

Hi DannysMom

Thank you for checking up. It has been a while since I have been on here I think I have just been keeping myself occupied especially with the sunny weather as if i sit still for too long it reminds me of how much I wish Chewy was here. But then I thought today by coming by here and maybe helping a few others etc is a way of paying tribute to my baby and showing just how much I still love him.

Well Ellie is all settled in now. All three of them are great. I brought a cat DVD to entertain the younger two sometimes after I lost Chewy and unfortunately Ellie has now got addicted watching tv. As soon as I walk through the door she runs and sits in front of the tv waiting for me to put it on. Bad I know but so funny! We have just brought them a massive new activity centre that we are going to build tonight. I have many photos of them all laying together. It's so warm today i wish I could let them all out. I just have a fear of doing it.

How are you feeling now? How is Mindy doing?

Hi, Forever, thank you so much for sharing with us how you and your precious Ellie are doing, and all of your family. I am so chuckling at your precious Ellie being "addicted" to the videos. That is so cute. The activity center sounds wonderful. I'm looking forward to knowing how your precious companions enjoy it.

Even though we embrace the love and companionship of new fur children, our hearts always remember those who have preceded us to the angels. Each companion has their own special place in our hearts and lives forever.

Thank you so much for sharing with us how you're doing, Forever, and how your precious furkids are doing. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers, and that I always look forward to sharing your news.

Peace and blessings,

Hi, xxForeverxx! It is so good of you to come back here and post. I missed you. I am so happy for you that Ellie settled in so nicely and is getting along with the kittens. How delightful about the kitty tv! My cats always enjoyed watching movies with me, and the cat DVD is probably great entertainment for them. smile.gif You should post some photos of Ellie and the kittens, would love to see them! Congrats on the cat activity center! I just know your fur kids are going to love it since cats love to climb and have something to scratch on.

I can definitely understand your fear of letting them out. There are some safe ways to let them go outside. I've seen these big 'kitty tunnels' and 'kitty tents' that you could put up in your backyard and put the cats inside. That way they can enjoy the outside, but are safely contained

I am still grieving very much over the loss of Tina (she died April 28, only 4 months after Danny). She was with me for 14 years and I greatly miss her presence. Mindy is doing fine. She has gained a bit more weight than she should have! She is getting along well with the new family addition, a calico cat named Shelley (see New Beginnings).

Thank you moon_beam and DannysMom for your replies. I have attached a couple of photos one showing Ellie and the other showing Fudge and Pixie together. I have loads on my phone of them together so hopefully I can get more soon. I take photos all of the time of them! it was the same with Chewy....I have hundreds of him.....although I thank god I did take the photos as i feel I have captured many good memories.

All the cats are currently asleep on their cat activity centre......they sleep on that all day and night lol to be a cat ey! I will let them out one day but either when we move somewhere safer or like you suggested DannysMom get an outdoor tunnel or tent etc so they can enjoy the out doors without the dangers.

I have a wonderful photo moon_beam of Ellie and Pixie watching tv together which I will put up next time.

Was just about to hoover and Fudge has taken one look at the Henry hoover and gone to his spot underneath the bed cover upstairs in the bedroom.....I have a good photo of him under there too!

I am now going to have a look at your posts DannysMom see how you are etc so see you there smile.gif

Oh, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these photos!!! smile.gif Your Ellie is a beautiful little girl, and that photo of Pixie and Fudge is so precious. How wonderful that they are both Tuxedo cats!!! smile.gif I remember you saying how Fudge looks so much like Mindy, and indeed he does. Are Pixie and Fudge siblings? They look so happy together. That is a really nice cat gym that Ellie is sleeping in. I like the little paw prints all over. I haven't seen one like that over here. I've got a big 6' jungle gym with a kitty condo and two platforms for napping, but my girls aren't too interested in it. Shelley sometimes sleeps in the kitty condo. It looks like you have a beautiful garden out back. Your babies must be so happy to have your as their Mom! smile.gif

Hi xxForeverxx, I hope your kitties and bunnies are well. What is new in your household? I saw in your comment to Chewy that you are going on holiday. I hope it's a nice and relaxing one, and I hope Ellie, Fudge and Pixie are well taken care of in the meantime. It must be so nice to have two Tux cats, that is double the fun! I know Mindy is so clownish and playful, and she is also very gentle. Fudge and Pixie look so sweet. Whoever dumped these beautiful babies in a ditch doesn't know what they are missing out on.

Thank you both for your replies.

Well Ellie has come back from the cattery a little more overweight then she was already! Need to get her exercising. Pixie threw a strop the second she got home and it took her a couple of days to liven up again and Fudge.....well Fudge is Fudge nothing much changes with him he just gets on with it.

Whilst we were away on holiday England had a little heatwave and annoyingly (as I flea my cats every month without fail) the heat caused an eperdemic of fleas. The vets said there had been outbreaks everywhere. Fingers crossed we have got rid of the little nasties. My cats do not have any on them. ewfwefwefwefgtrewa.......haha that is from Ellie who just kindly laid her head on the keyboard whilst I was taking a drink lol

Welcome back, xxForeverxx! I hope that you holiday was relaxing and fun. It sounds like you fur kids didn't get much exercise at the cattery. They probably just laid around all day. I'm glad they are back to "normal". Fudge sounds like he is really laid back, and his sister is probably more outgoing. How are they getting along with Ellie these days?

Fleas can be a really bad problem. Even if cats don't go outside it is easy to track them in on your shoes or they come in through open windows. I'm so glad that your fur tribe is flea-free! smile.gif

Ellie sounds like she is a real lap cat and enjoys being around you. Mindy is the lap cat in my household. She is much more laid back than Shelley (who is nicknamed "nervous Nellie"), and right now she is curled up on my lap. She has been screeching a lot this afternoon. Shelley is much more vocal and can be very demanding.

Hi DannysMom

They all get along so well now. Ellie had one small scratch on her nose after she came out the cattery but then three cats in one pen there was always going to be a little scrap.

She loves play fighting with Fudge. and Occasionally I will get a photo of them all laying together. Ellie loves laying on her back like a dog and loves nothing more than a belly rub. We wonder whether it is from where she had kittens so her belly is sensitive and she is more use to it being touched?

Fudge gave us a scare last week. We found him in our dining room at about half 9 in the evening, laying on his side with his eyes shut surrounded by sick and a little bit of diarrhoea. I was so scared. My fiance said he was shaking.....as he found him first. I carried him to one of their beds in the sitting room and laid him down then took him up with us at night where he stayed all night. And then by next morning he was fine and has been ever since! it was the strangest thing! I still keep and extra eye on him as I was sooooo worried!

xxForeverxx

Posted by: DannysMom Dec 1 2012, 02:09 PM

xxForeverxx, I was sad to hear that your Fudge got sick and I can just imagine how that must have scared you and your fiance. I am relieved to hear that he is doing better. If the diarrhea was bloody then that would be a cause for concern. Cats sometimes get diarrhea from a change in diet or a virus or worm. You may want to have him checked for worms just in case. It can also be from stress.

I am glad that Ellie likes playing with Fudge. That is so sweet how you got pictures of all three of them together! smile.gif I know it makes you happy that they all get along.

Shelley also likes to get her tummy rubbed and she has had kittens as well. I know that it's a sign of absolute trust when they show you their tummies. Mindy loves getting her tummy rubbed. She rolls on her back lots of times during the day and enjoys being petted.

I just thought of something...do you have any plants in the house? Maybe Fudge nibbled on something and got sick from that. Most plants are toxic for cats, especially lilies.

I don't know if they have these in England, but over here you can buy little Santa hats for cats at Petsmart. I always wanted to buy one for Danny and take a photo, but I never did. I think your Fudge would look so cute with one (the red going so well with his black fur) and you could make custom Christmas cards from a photo.

I hope that Fudge will be okay and not get the diarrhea again.

Hi, Forever, thank you so much forsharing with us how you and your precious Fudge, Pixie, and Ellie are doing. I, too, am so very glad that your precious Fudge is doing much better. DannysMom has given you some very good pointers as to what could have caused this episode. You may never know for certain, but I am sooooo glad he is doing much better.

I hope today is treating you and your precious companions kindly, Forever. Please know you and your precoius Fudge, Ellie, and Pixie are in my thoughts and prayers, and that I always look forward to knowing how each of you are doing.

Hi DannysMom and moon_beam

I know lillies are poisonous so I never have them in the house. I did not have any flowers in at the time except an aloe vera plant but it was somewhere I have never seen them get to before but it is always a possibility so we moved it straight after. The only other thing is we had a small bit of vanish on the carpet which maybe he licked but he was upstairs the whole time so it was weird. I am just glad he has been fine ever since.

Do you mean these kind of hats DannysMom? Ellie really does not look happy to have it on. I had to take the photo of them both really quickly lol I brought them at the start of december.....well I just brought one as I knew they would not wear them!

Hi, Forever, thank you so much for sharing with us that your precious Fudge is continuing to do well since his medical scare.

I am so laughing at the picture of your precious Ellie - - I totally agree with you that she does not look too thirlled about the hat! She definitely has that expression on her face: "this is sooooooo undignified". Still I know this is a picture you and your fiance will treasure forever.

I hope today is treating you and your precious companions kindly, Forever. Please know you and your precoius Fudge, Ellie, and Pixie are in my thoughts and prayers, and that I always look forward to knowing how each of you are doing.

Oh, this is soooo precious! smile.gif What a cute hat! I'm glad you got that photo of Ellie, but as moon_beam has said she does NOT look happy at all! It is a great picture though, and I know you will cherish that for years to come.

I saw some red bow ties with little jingle bells and thought of getting one for Mindy, but I know she would probably fuss with it and not let me get a picture. Still, it would look so good on her since she already wears a "tuxedo" and the bow tie would just be perfect.

They also have the deer antlers here for to put on the head, but I think these are even more undignified! lol! smile.gif

Hi moon_beam and DannysMom

I hope you both had a lovely christmas although I am sure it was very hard like it was for me as we always remember it is one without our beloved cats that we have lost.

I was going to buy them a hat each but then decided i would probably be wasting my money as they will all hate them and also I didn't want to be that cruel and make them wear them......which I had no hope of doing anyways as the second I put one on it was off! So I only brought the one. I let Ellie take it off straight after I just wanted to get one photo rolleyes.gif naughty mummy!!

I brought them some festive ribbon for christmas day......they use to wear collars so I thought why not......but that did not last long either!!

xxForeverxx

Posted by: DannysMom Dec 30 2012, 02:30 PM

Hello xxForeverxx, it was probably a wise decision that you only got the one hat! smile.gif It sure id adorable, though and it looks so nice and big! The Santa hats for cats over here are rather tiny, at least the ones I've found. Did you give Ellie and the tuxes some presents or treats for Christmas? This was your first Christmas with them as well as my first Christmas with Mindy and Shelley. I'm so looking forward to leaving 2012 behind and hoping that 2013 will be much better.

I hope that Ellie and Pixie and Fudge will be with you for many more happy years to come!

Hi DannysMom

Yeah we got them some new balls that have bells in......big mistake because if they decide that they want to play at 4 o clock in the morning that is all you can hear lol bless them! We also got them a new blanket and a catnip toy. We filled them with catnip treats when we wrapped them up so they would want to open them.....we did hide them in the nursery until Christmas day though. I had also brought them another bed......but they found that and had already started laying in it before I could get round to wrapping it for them for Christmas rolleyes.gif

What did you get Mindy and Shelley?

Yes it was our first Christmas together. It was lovely and I am so glad we welcomed Ellie into our house.......just wish Chewy could have been here too. Then everything would have been perfect. So much has happened in 2012 that I should be so happy about but I cannot because of losing my baby so hopefully this year I can start to feel like I can be happy. Just like you....a new year and new things to come for us both I hope......remember our lost loved ones along the way.

xxForeverxx

Posted by: DannysMom Jan 2 2013, 05:56 PM

xxForeverxx, that is so funny about the "jingle balls"! Shelley loves them. She likes the soft sponge balls as well as the ones with a bell inside. It sounds like your fur kids had a happy Christmas and got spoiled! smile.gif I bet they love the new blanket and the cat bed. I've always enjoyed so much buying new things for Tina and Danny. It brought me so much joy to see them happy and comfortable. And I plan on doing the same for Mindy and Shelley.

I got Shelley a catnip mouse and Mindy a ping-pong ball with a feather in it for Christmas. I didn't get them any treats, but I think I will do that next year and wrap them up in paper and let the two open their "presents".

Ellie sure is a beautiful cat, and I am glad that you adopted her. And I think it worked out well how she became friends with Pixie and Fudge along the way. I hope that 2013 will be a good year for you that will bring you much happiness!

Posted by: xxForeverxx Jan 24 2013, 11:56 AM

Hi DannysMom

Have they played with their ping pong ball and catnip mouse yet? Mine go through stages they will sleep loads and then suddenly I will hear the jingle of the ball and then a couple of minutes later they are asleep again.....the lazy so and so's! lol

I took Ellie to the vets last week as it was jab time. It was my first trip to the vets with her. Expecting her to meow in the carrier at least (as Pixie is a silent cat except on the way to the vets!) and not a sound came out her mouth. We sat waiting in the vets for twenty minutes as the vet was late.....not a sound from her. Then I took her in and she hugged me and the vet and then just flopped on her side and laid down ready for the injection. She even had a thermometer stuck up her bum which would make any of us probably make a noise and she still just laid their silently! Absolutely amazing. The vet could not believe it!

Ellie does not like me at lunch or dinner though as she is on a diet as she needs to lose a tiny bit of weight so I was told to just give her half a pouch at lunch and half a pouch at dinner......well this does not impress her much!

We had snow at the weekend. And I took her out on her leash (I do not really like leashes but after what happened to Chewy I want to keep her indoors safe so it just gives her a bit of fresh air in the garden) in the garden and she rolled around and I got this photo which I absolutely love!

xxForeverxx

Hi, Forever, thank you so much for sharing with us how you and your precious companions are doing. I'm so very glad Ellie's trip to the vet went so well - - for the both of you. She's probably heard all about the vet trips from her housemates - - they do talk to one another, too.

I am so smiling at the snow picture of her - - sounds like she enjoyed herself. You are very wise to keep her on a leash / tether when she is outside, Forever. I know people thought I was crazy and cruel for tethering my furkids when they were outside getting fresh air in their lungs and sunshine on their faces but I have no regrets. This is what I needed to do for their safety, and I applaud you for doing the same thing.

Thank you so much for sharing with us how your precious Ellie's trip to her doctor went. I hope today is treating you and your precious companions kindly, Forever. Please know you and your precoius Fudge, Ellie, and Pixie are in my thoughts and prayers, and that I always look forward to knowing how each of you are doing.

xxForeverxx, just like human kids with their Christmas toys so are my girls with theirs. First it was a big deal, and now they are cast aside. Mindy's favorite toy right now is a rattle mouse on a nylon string attached to a wooden wand. She wants to play with it all the time!

This is such a lovely picture of your Ellie! Thanks for sharing that with us. She has such a pretty face and she does look very similar to Chewy. I hope Ellie brings you much joy! It looks like she had a wonderful time in the snow. Most cats do not like the feel of snow on their paw pads, so I'm surprised that Ellie rolled around in it, but it seems she was happy to get some fresh air. It is wise of you to walk her on a leash, that way she is safe, and she she seems as if she is getting used to it. Some cats really like going for a walk that way. Jon730 who used to be on here would always take his Tux cat for a walk on the leash and they both enjoyed it.

How wonderful that Ellie was so good at the vets! She seems like such a gentle cat, well behaved. I'm sure that Chewy is smiling down on you with approval! smile.gif

We got snow yesterday, during rush hour, and I should have left work earlier. It took me 2 hours to get home and I've only got 10 miles to go. Most of the time I was stopped or inching along at 10 mph. I didn't dare go faster as I saw some cars sliding, and so I happily ignored all the impatient people passing me and probably flipping the finger at me. It turns out we had over 900 accidents in the state of Virginia last night, so I know I made the right choice. People here just don't know how to drive in snow, that's the problem. It was only an inch or so, but it sure caused havoc on the roads.

Hello xxForeverxx, I was just thinking of you and wondering if you had your baby yet and how your fur tribe is doing. I know you'll be so happy when you'll hold your little bundle of joy in your arms. Do you have a name yet for your baby?

I hope the weather is a bit better for you. Have you taken Ellie out on a leash again? With a bit of training cats can do quite nicely walking on a leash, but then again it depends on the cat. My Tina hated being on a leash and protested loudly and pitifully when I tried it a few times. I do let Mindy and Shelley go out on the balcony sometimes. Shelley seems more sensitive to the cold, but not so much Mindy.

I hope everything is well in your household.

Hi moon_beam and DannysMom

Thank you both for your replies. moon_beam It makes me feel a bit better to hear of people not having a go at me for not letting them out on their own. After losing Chewy to a dog and the road we live down though it is much safer for them indoors and they are perfectly happy indoors.

I am planning on getting them an outdoor enclosure as out garden is big enough so in the summer they can sit in the garden with us rolleyes.gif

DannysMom I am so glad you took it easy in the snow. Too many accidents like the 900 you said are caused by drivers going too fast when they do not need to and Mindy and Shelley needed you back in one piece!!

I am due on Monday......I think he is being stubborn though as no sign at all he wants to come yet! rolleyes.gif We are all ready though.......well saying we is not quite right. Two of my friends came round with their little ones today (one of them in 8 weeks old) and usually we go to my friends house to meet but they came here. I thought this is good they can have a test run with a baby being in the house. Everything was fine and then....like babies do my friends little girl started to cry because she was hungry so after 10 mins she took her home. I fed the cats......they seemed fine.....and then Fudge sat at the top of the stairs afterwards all fluffy from where he was really scared and he was not budging......so I picked him up stroked him and then brought him downstairs to show him everything was fine.....and then he did a little wee through fear......then ran under the dining room table and it took me ages to settle him down. It was so strange. I felt awful for Fudge as the last thing I want to do is upset my cats.

Hopefully I can help Fudge see that a baby is OK and he will come round.

Name wise he is going to be called Keelan James McGrane (that is my other halves brothers name as the middle name and of course my other halves last name).

I haven't taken Ellie out on her leash again yet but then she has not really asked to. They are all asleep in their beds as I speak being so good! I love them wub.gif

Hello xxForeverxx! It's so wonderful to hear from you. I love the picture of the tuxes and Ellie by the radiator. It looks like Ellie got the best spot! smile.gif Fudge and Pixie look so happy, snuggling together. I'm so sorry to hear that Fudge got scared by the visitors and your friend's baby. This will be a new experience for them, but with time and patience and love it will be okay. I've read that it's best to not leave a new baby alone with the cats, but there are some things you can do to get your kitties used to little Keelan. That is a lovely name, by the way! You could put up a gate or screen by the nursery, so that the kitties can look at the baby from a safe distance. I'm sure the first few days will be a bit stressful for the cats, but it will work out. That is a great idea to get an enclosure for outside so that your cats can sit with you in the garden in the summertime. Don't let those people get to you who say that you should let the cats go out on their own. Obviously they have not experienced the heartbreak of losing a beloved animal companion. So many bad things can happen to them outside. They can get caught in a trap, get shot at by cat haters, get attacked by wild animals, etc. You are doing to prudent and safe thing by keeping them inside and that is something you can feel good about! smile.gif I would never let Mindy and Shelley go out by themselves. I'd be too scared that something could happen to them.

We got a bit of snow last week, but it didn't even stick. It being the end of February I'd be surprised if we do get any more snow. Winter is coming to an end. It's cloudy and rainy here today, the perfect day for curling up on the couch with a good book and sipping some hot coffee or tea. I know you'll be so glad when little Keelan finally arrives. I'll be thinking of you Monday.

I've heard that Feliway can be used to calm down cats. I don't know if you can get that in the UK. They say it contains pheromones to calm cats down, but that is really misleading as it is just basically some lavender oil. I had used it once with Tina and Danny and I didn't notice a difference.

Hi DannysMom

Thank you for your reply rolleyes.gif

Well February 24th I gave birth to baby Keelan...day before my due date. Lets say I have not had much time to get on the laptop but things are starting to calm down now so I hope to have more time to. The cats have been amazing. I would never leave them alone with him through fear of one of them laying on him and suffocating him accidentally but we let them sit with us when we are all together. Fudge actually has been great and has even sat with me and Keelan a couple of times lately.

Ellie has now got another nickname though.......'dummy thief' as she has now nicked 6 of Keelans dummys! You turn your head for a second and she has nicked it off the side or off his blanket. She never goes near it when Keelan is about but the second we are in a different room she grabs it in her mouth. She is just too quick! I had been throwing them in the bin but she nicked one yesterday and I decided If I let her play with that one maybe she will not nick anymore. We have lost another one since last night though and although I cannot find it I am sure she has now got two to play with! It is costing me a fortune in dummies laugh.gif

xxForeverxx, congratulations on the birth of little Keelan! smile.gif I know you must be so happy to finally hold your little bundle of joy! I'm glad that the cats have been so good with the baby, especially little Fudge. He'll probably be Keelan's best friend as he grows up! smile.gif I had to laugh when I read about Ellie stealing Keelan's dummies. That is so funny! She probably thinks they're cat toys. I have to admit I didn't know what a "dummy" was at first, so I had to look it up on UK's Amazon site. I think we call them pacifiers here in the States. I'm sure all the cats must be very curious about little Keelan and vice versa. I remember Tina always loved small children and allowed them to pet her. They always seemed to get excited and would point and say "kitty-cat!"

You never know...Keelan's first word may just be "kitty-cat" laugh.gif

Posted by: xxForeverxx May 4 2013, 01:11 PM

Hi Dannysmom

Thank you for your reply. Made me laugh when you mentioned you had to search dummies to see what they were. I forgot some things here are called something different in America.

Ellie is being so great with Keelan. She loves coming on the sofa with us as snuggling up on my lap next to him. She is an amazing cat. I still wander after having to be taken in to a cat shelter after being chucked out of her house and found as a pregnant stray how she can show so much love for us humans.

xxForeverxx, I think animals have very forgiving spirits. They are such pure, innocent, and gentle souls. And with Ellie, I think it's her mothering instincts. She knows what it's like to care for a baby and to raise them, so that's why she enjoys sitting with you and little Keelan. That must be so comforting for him too. I think almost that Ellie wants to be a second mom for little Keelan and that she is watching over him. Mom cats are so special. They know what it's like to care for little ones, to make sacrifices, and to teach them things. I can see that in my Shelley when she is always so willing to share a bed or blanket with Mindy.

I hope that you and your fiance and little Keelan have a wonderful Mother's Day next Sunday. This will be your first one! smile.gif

Posted by: xxForeverxx May 28 2013, 03:21 AM

Hi DannysMom

Our mothers day was March 10th this year. It is different to America. I still manage to get my first one though as he was 2 weeks old.......although I was so knackered I did not really think much about it!

Did you enjoy your mothers day with your babies?

Have I told you yet that Ellie has mastered what your Danny could do......and can get in the food cupboard. Sometime I even find Fudge in there and I know he can't get in even though he was the first to start trying so Ellie must let him in!

xxForeverxx

Posted by: DannysMom Jun 1 2013, 12:11 PM

Hello xxForeverxx, now I feel a bit stupid! : laugh.gif I know Mother's Day falls on the same day in Germany as it does in the US so I thought it might be the same in the UK as well. That's what I get for thinking! smile.gif ....I had a nice Mother's Day with my girls. They are always so happy to have me home on the weekends. I found myself smiling reading about Ellie getting into the food cupboard. What a smart little cat! And how nice of her to share with Fudge smile.gif It sounds like Ellie is getting along really well with the "kittens" as you used to call them. I thought of you when I went to my vet's open house not too long ago. A couple brought their flemish giant rabbit in a little wagon. I have never seen a rabbit THIS big! He was at least twice as big as my Shelley. Some girls took pictures of him. He was rather calm and sweet and didn't mind being petted. His paws were SO huge!

I hope you're having some nice weather in England. Here, it already feels like summer with temps in the upper 80s, and today marks the start of hurricane season.

Posted by: xxForeverxx Jul 15 2013, 05:33 AM

Hi DannysMom

Haha its ok it is confusing......its the first time this year I have heard people saying happy mothers day from America on social networking sites and I thought I didn't know it was a different day to ours laugh.gif

I got brought a safety kit for when Keelan starts crawling the other day. It includes those things you put on the cupboards that stop kids getting in them.......going to have to put one of the cat food cupboard soon as the piggys are going in and knocking he box of crunchies over to eat!!

I have always wanted a giant rabbit and will have one one day. My rabbit Chase was, of course as he was a baby, very small when we first got him and I asked the vet how big he would grow and he said "I think this will be it" and I can remember thinking "oh gosh my other rabbit Honey (who used to chase Chewy) will eat him alive! But now he is bigger than her! Although she still controls everything about their relationship rolleyes.gif

The last couple of weeks has been lovely here. We have a heatwave going on so it is like 27 degrees at the moment. We have to make the most of it as I am sure you must have heard English weather is very unpredictable and it could turn miserable again any second blink.gif

Oh no I hope you haven't had any hurricanes yet?

xxForeverxx

Posted by: DannysMom Jul 20 2013, 11:22 AM

Hello xxForeverxx, I hope all is well in your household. Wow, that will be fun when little Keelan starts crawling and exploring his world. That safety kit will be very helpful, but I'm sure Ellie is going to be disappointed when she can no longer get into the cupboard. I saw a cute video the other day where a Tuxedo cat was licking a baby's toes clean after the baby had a bath. The little one was just giggling with delight, and I thought I'd share this with you: http://lovemeow.com/2013/07/cat-licking-baby-toes/

We are also having a heat wave here, but I'm glad we have air conditioning. It's more like 33 degrees (Celsius) over here. We haven't had any hurricanes yet. That is so funny about Chase having grown up to be bigger than Honey! smile.gif Reminds me of Tina and Danny. She used to "beat" him up when he was a kitten and I always told her to watch out when he gets bigger. But he was always so gentle and loving.

Have you been out in the garden with little Keelan? And how are the cats getting along with him? Shelley grew up with a 3 year old boy and I found she likes to watch cartoons, so she must have watched a lot of TV together with him.

Posted by: xxForeverxx Sep 23 2013, 05:49 AM

Hi DannysMom

Thank you for your reply. That video is soooooo funny! I cannot wait to see if my cats do that. At the moment Keelan strokes the cats etc but I have to be there with him or else he will get a bit forceful by accident and hit them. But they always try and lay down with him. I do not think they will try and lick him yet as he will just kick them! I did spend a lot of time through July and the start of August in the garden but the weather has not been the best for it lately so I think it will be a next year thing now. Of course if we are lucky enough to get snow this year I will certainly be taking him out in that so he can experience it.

That is so funny that Shelley likes top watch cartoons. I think Ellie has got bored of watching CBeebies (our baby tv over here) so does not tend to watch tele anymore. She accidentally scratched Keelans hand a few days ago.....not purposely but she was hiding under the coffee table and wanted one of Keelans toys but Keelan reached for it at the same time and her claw caught him. She looked most upset when he started to cry. He didnt cry for long and then she went and laid next to where he was sitting as if to say sorry!

xxForeverxx

Posted by: DannysMom Sep 28 2013, 11:47 AM

xxForeverxx, that is so sweet that your cats lay down with little Keelan. It looks like they are really warming up to him and enjoy being with him. That is really wonderful! smile.gif I'm sure from the way you described it that Ellie did feel bad when little Keelan started to cry after she had accidentally scratched his hand. How sweet of her to lay down next to him. Keelan sounds like an active little boy. Just wait until he starts to walk, then he will be all over the place! laugh.gif That is so funny how Ellie also likes Keelan's toys.

I'm glad you got to spend time in the garden. I like being outside as it is so relaxing just sitting out there and letting the warm sun shine on me. Unfortunately it has cooled down quite a bit here. I had been hoping for temps in the 80s through September, but we are in the low 70s. This year will be your first Christmas with Keelan. Are you getting a special ornament for him?

I hope Ellie, Pixie, and Fudge are getting along well. I love their names!

Posted by: DannysMom Oct 10 2013, 06:36 PM

xxForeverxx, you have GOT to see this video! It is soooo cute! smile.gif

http://lovemeow.com/2013/10/cats-love-babies/

When I watched this I was just so amazed at how gentle the cats were around these little babies, and they seemed to enjoy being petted by those tiny little hands.

Posted by: xxForeverxx Nov 6 2013, 06:56 AM

Hi Dannysmom.

Thanks for the reply. Well we have a crawling standing Keelan now so its full speed ahead. To all the women that kept telling me boys are always late with everything developmental were all wrong!!

Yes we have a first christmas ornament for him and my mum has brought him a christmas sack with his name on for all his presents. He is going to be truely poilt by everyone! Takes the pressure off of us a little bit though financially.

Are you looking forward to putting your christmas tree up with your kitties?

The cats are getting along brilliantly! All being cheeky. That video is brilliant. Fudge and Ellie walk past keelan and stroke there bodies up against him. The only one who never has is Pixie but she tends to stay away until he has gone to bed laugh.gif Although she is more confident now and very cheeky I still think she does not know what to make of him.

Hello xxForeverxx, oh wow so Keelan is crawling and standing! In a few months he'll be 1 year old already. Is he talking yet? I don't know at what age babies start talking. Maybe his first word will be 'kitty'. smile.gif That is so sweet how Fudge and Ellie walk by him and rub their bodies against him, almost like they are "marking" him. I would have thought that Fudge was the shy one and not Pixie. I remember how he had been so scared when one of your friends came over with her baby. I think Pixie will warm up to Keelan eventually. Have you had any snow yet? We are in the 50s during the day and the low 40s at night. I will probably be putting up the Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving in keeping with tradition here in the US. The stores were quick to put out the Christmas candy soon after Halloween and I just had to get some Hershey's candy canes. They're like Hershey's kisses, but white with mint in them. I like the Cadbury chocolate too.

Are you still taking Ellie out for walks? I so loved that photo you had of her walking in the snow. She is such a pretty cat

Posted by: xxForeverxx Dec 21 2013, 01:12 PM

Hello DannysMom

Yes Keelan is on the move. He is now standing for a few seconds on his own with no support and had a lovely trip to the walk in centre (which is like a doctors but there open every day and you do not ave to make an appointment) today as he fell forward and bashed his head on the corner of the wall.

He doesnt say any words but I expect that to come after hes a year maybe a bit before. and amazingly at 10 months he still has no teeth lol I can actually imagine his first word being Ellie!

Trust me Fudge is still scared of every little noise he hears but he is also very affectionate with me and think he knows Keelan is part of the family.

No snow yet and we have not been forecast any sad.gif I love the snow and want to take Keelan out in it......before he an walk and roll around and slip in it rolleyes.gif

I of course assume your Christmas tree is up now. How do Mindy and Shelley cope with it? Mine is up high so the only thing I have to watch is that the cats do not go behind it and wee!! That has happened before blink.gif

Oooooo those candy canes sound nice. I love chocolate and I have to admit I use Christmas as a massive excuse to eat tons of it!

Ellie has become so good with Keelan. Being a typical older baby Keelan gets excited when he sees Ellie and has started grabbing her and she just lays there all relaxed letting him get away with it! The others just run away.

xxForeverxx

Hello xxForeverxx, I am sorry to hear that little Keelan bashed his head. I hope he is much better now and that he had an enjoyable Christmas. He must be such a little treasure! smile.gif Some people had brought their little babies to the Christmas Eve church service, and I thought that was so sweet. Did you get any snow yet? We had 80 degrees last Sunday but on Christmas Eve the temps had really dropped. I remember when I was a kid I had so much fun playing in the snow, so I'm sure little Keelan will enjoy it as well. How sweet of Ellie to be so patient with him! smile.gif But then again she has experience, being a mom herself, and I'm sure her kittens did all kinds of crazy things.

My Christmas tree has been up since the day after Thanksgiving and my girls are enjoying it. Shelley has been sleeping under it a lot. Mindy tried to chew on it as always, but she is better with it now and also enjoys sleeping under it. I even have a picture with both of them under the tree at the same time! smile.gif Do you have a real tree? Maybe that is why your cats think it's a good place to go and wee.

Did Ellie, Fudge and Pixie have a good Christmas? Are they still getting along well?

Posted by: xxForeverxx Jan 27 2014, 05:51 AM

Hello DannysMom

Keelan is all healed now. And as so well behaved when we took him to be checked out rolleyes.gif was just a small practice of what the next how ever many years are going to be like with a boy! laugh.gif

We havent had any snow yet. I want some so badly! Not even a little sign of it. I saw you had it quite bad over there? Did it affect your area as badly as I saw on TV?

I do have a real tree yes and you are probably right! We managed the whole christmas without a naughty wee though wink.gif

They all had a wonderful christmas thanks. I seem to be finding Ellie and Pixie laying near each other more now. Not quite together like Pixie and Fudge do but I do not expect them too as Fudge and Pixie have the sibling bond. Its just nice to see them close.

Hello xxForverxx, I am so glad that little Keelan is alright again. Yes, boys will be boys! smile.gif We got some snow last week, just a few inches but lots of ice underneath because it had rained first. Last night we got almost 10 inches. It looks like a winter wonderland out there! The last time we got that much snow was Christmas Day 2010. That's a bit odd that you haven't had any snow yet, but I hope you'll get some so that you can take little Keelan out and Ellie too. That's nice that you had a real tree. They smell so nice. We always had a real one when I was growing up. I am glad your fur kids didn't wee behind the tree during the holidays! smile.gif That is so sweet that Ellie and Pixie like laying together. They have come a long way together! I remember when you were saying that Ellie was hissing at the kittens when you first had her, but it all worked out. I take it Fudge gets along better with Pixie? I guess since Ellie and Pixie are both females they kinda take to each other. Would be nice if Fudge joined in too. I wonder if Keelan is going to start chasing the cats when he learns to walk? laugh.gif

Posted by: xxForeverxx Mar 25 2014, 07:05 AM

Hi DannysMom

We have had not a drop of snow which is such a shame as now Keelan is walking I have been desperate to take him out in some wellies in it! I had to take Ellie to the out of hours vets last sunday night. On the saturday I noticed she was really struggling to wee but seemed normal in herself. But by sunday evening she was just in and out of the litter tray and I just could not watch her any longer seem so desperate and couldnt wait for the vets the next day so took her to the emergency one. She had a water infection as you probably guessed. Has had antibiotics and is fine now. Only thing is they wanted a sample from her to check there was nothing underlying that caused the infection. Could I get one out of her when I wanted to? of course not rolleyes.gif So they gave me two choices.......wait and see if she gets another one, or give her to the vets for the day to get a sample out of her just to be on the safe side. So today I dragged her to the vets. I cant take the chance leaving her in case there is something more. Lots of cuddles for making her stay with the vets tonight though seeing as she feels fine.

Fudge and Pixie very close as you can imagine being siblings. They are always laying together pretty much on top of each other just to get closer and warm! Funny Ellie and Pixie don't tend to lay that close anymore. I think they go through fazes. Fudge is more likely to lay near Ellie. and sometimes I find all three more or less close together. I feel a bit sorry for Ellie sometimes, she is not bullied just wish she had the same relationship as Fudge and Pixie.

Well Keelan has been on the move for 2 months now. Fudge and Pixie run away straight away when they see him. Unfortunatley for Ellie she is so friendly she justs lay there and sometimes he goes to grab her so I have to keep my eye on the two of them!

xxForeverxx

Posted by: DannysMom Mar 26 2014, 08:01 PM

Hello xxForeverxx, yes, it seems that Europe had a warm winter while we had snow storm after snow storm here in the US. But hopefully next year you will get some good snow and little Keelan can walk around and throw snowballs! smile.gif

I am so sorry to hear about Ellie and her infection, but I am glad to hear she is doing better with the antibiotic. You may want to check the food you are feeding her. Sometimes a high magnesium content in the food can cause urinary blockage or infections. Generally, wet food or semi-wet food is better than dry food, and the cat should drink lots of water. You could get one of those fountains to encourage Ellie to drink more water. Also avoid foods that contain wheat, soy or corn and feed smaller amount of foods during the day instead of big meals.

Yes, I think it is a bit like being the fifth wheel for Ellie. Fudge and Pixie are sibling, so they are naturally close, and it is hard for Ellie to fit in, but it is good that all three of them do lie together at times. I think they will grow more close as the years go by. That is so funny how Pixie and Fudge run when they see Keelan! smile.gif I can just see the look on their faces! I think with Ellie being a mother cat she is more tolerant. You are wise to keep an eye on them as kids like to pull a cat's tail and they just don't know any better at that age. There was a story here in the US where a family cat had her tail pulled by the baby and the cat scratched him. The parents left them unsupervised, and after the baby got scratched the Dad kicked the cat's behind, literally. Then the cat went beserk and charged after them and they had to barricade themselves in their bedroom and called 911. The cat is now in a shelter.

I think once Keelan gets older maybe Fudge and Pixie will snuggle with him and play with him.

Hoping Miss Ellie is much, much better now.

Hi DannysMom

Ellie is fine now. She had another infection not long after but once that healed up we finally gave in and let our cats out. Ellie wanted to go out so badly and it felt cruel to stop her. Fudge and Pixie just stay in the garden which is great as they get scared more easily. Ellie unfortunately is making up for lost time and the birds are not surviving very well outside unsure.gif I feel awful but it was a no win situation keeping them in or letting them out!

They have all been much more settled since giving them a cat flap though and they come in and stay in all night and sleep.

That is awful about that poor cat being put in a shelter! I always keep an eye on Ellie and Keelan and in all honesty if keelan got a scratch I would put it down to him doing something to her not the other way round. I think too many animals are blamed for defending themselves the only way they know how when they are hurt by kids and adults.

Keelan has now learnt to go "awwwwww" and put his head on ellies belly laugh.gif

Hello xxForeverxx, I am glad that Ellie is doing much better. I have been thinking of her and was wondering if she is okay. Sorry to hear that Ellie is stalking the birds outside. My Mindy would probably do the same thing. Have you thought about building a "catio", an outside enclosure big enough for the cats to enjoy the outdoors, but safely? Or perhaps supervising them while they are outside will help too. Aren't you worried that something might happen to them? It sounds like Ellie really loves being outside. My Tina was like that. She enjoyed exploring and stalking the birds.

That is so sweet about Keelan getting along so well with Ellie. It sounds like they are the best of friends. smile.gif

Hi DannysMom

Wow it has been so long as I have been rushed off my feet with my teacher training and looking after Keelan and all my furbabies. Since I told you Ellie was better Fudge got a urinary tract infection! More dangerous in males so he has been put on a special food like you said previously with Ellie. He has been absolutley fine though. Fudge and his sister are very much still house cats though they only go out for small plays in the garden and he is terrified of everything and there is another cat that keeps coming in out garden so wondering whether a couple of months ago that is what stressed him out. I have no worry about Fudge and Pixie outside as like I say they are still very much house cats. Ellie unfortunately is just a cat that likes to go and explore and there is not a lot I can do about that because of her past but they come in every day about half 5 and that is it until the next day as I will not have them out at night as I would worry.

We are now also trying to set up our conservatory for my two rabbits as one is now petty much classed as disabled.......due to incontinence he is not in any pain of course. But trying to do this when you have cats going in and out of the catflap in that room is difficult as I cannot figure out a set up!

I can imagine your Tina as a stalker of birds she just looked like she was a beautiful strong cat!

Hello xxForeverxx, I am sorry to hear about Fudge getting sick. I am so glad he is better and doing well on the special diet. That is nice that Fudge and Pixie just got out for a little while, that way they can enjoy some fresh air and do what cats love to do! smile.gif I am sure he did not like the other cat coming into his territory. Is it a stray or does it belong to your neighbors? It sounds like Ellie is enjoying her outings, and that she comes in for the night. I am sorry that one of your rabbits is disabled. Can you use little diapers (nappies I think you call them)? Can you block off the rabbit hutch somewhat so they have their privacy while the cats go in and out?

How is little Keelan doing? I imagine him running all over your house by now! smile.gif
